  • Put USD99 in title.

  • fantastic support from the manufacture
    very happy with this box

  • Was very recently updated to support Picture in Picture. Zidoo have been good by releasing firmware updates a few times each month since release.

  • Can it record things like Foxtel?

    • -2

most of FT is encrypted. (as well as NDS on the stream)

    • +3

      yes you can
      i do :-)

      • Thanks. Ordered!

  • Would this support one of those USB to TV antenna dongle things you see on eBay and then play it through Kodi? Also does it play H265 4K smoothly? It lists it but maybe it's more like 4K H264 and 1080p H265. And finally how do these motion sensing games work? It doesn't look like an air mouse control and it has no camera, so?

Apart from those this looks pretty good!

    • +1

A MicroUSB TV Dongle for Android will work with this device, but AFAIK they have their own app, so I'm not sure if it's possible through Kodi.

The video playback section of this review should answer your questions about playing H265 4K etc.

Motion sensing games would be played with a g sensor remote or controller.

Thanks for your detailed answer! I wanted this purely for Kodi but that review doesn't fill me with confidence, it says the 4K H265 videos don't even start in Kodi but play well through explorer, the idea of Kodi is to be an AIO program. Also no standby function, only power on/off which is not great. I think I'll wait and see what happens in the near future.

        • Might be worth messaging Darkscythe as he has a review of it here and might be able to find out for you.

  • Plays ISOs, but what about 3D ISOs like on the Popcorn Hour A400 (recent firmwares).

And then what about SACD rips?

  • Optical out?

how does it go decoding dts-HD?

    • +1

you cannot do dts-hd over optical, hdmi only.
And media players do not decode it, except for stereo analog out. The decoding is done in your amp.

      • Whoops, what I meant to ask then, does it have optical put and will it put out dts-HD over optical? Looking to replace my wdtv and while it has this feature it otherwise infuriates me with unpredictable memory leaks, no 265 and slow menu.

        • Repeating, you cannot do dts-hd over optical.
You wdtv does not. They both do plain old DTS, and (at the risk of offending some audiophile jihadists) the difference between that and DTS-HD is marginal.

Any of the many android (or Windows, linux) TV boxes at geek buying, gearbest etc will put your WDTV in the stone age. (Though you may miss the simplicity :)

        • @manic: so it must be downgrading to regular dts then as my amp still decodes all channels?

        • @smoke87:
yes, it would be. Not that it matters. dts-hd is a gimmick IMHO.

I think DTS is 1.5Mb/s, while most music is 128 to 256k. So do you really think is over-compressed?

Doesn't your amp tell you what the input signal is?

  • Looks great. Had this deal come 2 weeks earlier i would have bought one , I ended up buying the nvidia shield tv, though admittedly is probably overkill where this would have been a perfect fit and half the price.

  • is it possible to bluetooth to headphone?
    e.g when watching movies?

    • Yep. You can pair your Bluetooth headphones with this.

  • Hmm this or Celeron NUC + OpenELEC… (assuming I can get the NUC at the same price)

    • The NUC is far more expensive. The real alternative is an atom-based (Z3735) media player running Windows or linux.
There are proc and cons vs android.

  • What does the HDMI in record to, inserted MicroSD Card or USB Hard Drive?

  • USB keydrive, Hard drive, Microsd an internal are the options

  • Does it ship with Australian Power Cord?

  • +1

They will supply a converter for the power pack supplied just make sure they know your in AU easy.

    • Just received mine, probably just an oversight but mine didn't come with an AU cord.

      • Don't they normally just throw one of those awful black wobbly 2-pin adapters into the bag?

You can get better white ones on ebay for a dollar each.

  • Yes they do normally and yes the wobbly bit can be also true.:-) slight bend on the pins and all usually fixes it.

  • +1

Ordered today and shipped today using dhl. Thanks
