    you mean basa and chips

      I reckon it's still cheap. No matter where the fish comes from :)

      Its cheap I guess, but I'd rather not have Vietnamese catfish.

  • This deal has been around for a while - but the quality of the fish and chips is very good for the price.
    Used to like it when they had the shop in the Rocks opp the police station - but prices were higher.

  • Been around forever and all over Sydney. Be very careful because some places are using basa as the standard grilled fish and still charging $9+ for it. Wouldn't go near it personally. Horrible fish, no wonder they have to douse it in garlic and herbs to give it any flavour.

  • Been that price since they opened.

    Good price, but I don't know what fish they use. Must be a very cheap fish. The question is:

    Is it good for you??

    • basa (catfish from vietnam)

      • Is that an educated guess?
        Doesn't sound very appetising 😜

        • all cheap fish at fish and chip places are Basa (which is actually farmed Catfish from Vietnam, Basa is to make it sound a bit nicer).
          It would be a good bet that this is what they are using.

          @PVA:
          Probably Asian
          Didn't buy either

          @Peanut money:
          I am just stirring Peanut, but I am sure the fish and chip shops have to label where the fish is from (they do in Qld)
          And I wouldnt doubt that some even have chips from China.

          I wonder how many restaurants use this type of fish - and they dont need to label.

        • @PVA: They actually don't have to label where the fish is from once its cooked.

  • Been posted before https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/147509

    This is there every day price and has been since opening. Its fried or grilled fish & chips or salad + can of drink of 600ml water for $5

    King Neptune's Catch at Westfield Warringah Mall Brookvale (next to Woolworths) also sell $5 fish @ ships without a drink.

  • cheap, but I wont eat catfish.

  • Also all day parking for free due to broken parking machine:-)

    This shopping centre is a long way from the beach so only useful if you are doing all day shopping. Or catching a bus elsewhere after having attained free rides.

    But it's worth mentioning that the Harris Farm Market in this centre often has cheaper prices than other branches due to it being a recently opened branch.
