I was planning on buying the one from supercheap, but since this is cheaper, I'll have to shelve that idea =p

      • +12

I've always said your jokes are top shelf material, well done.

  • These the wobbly one and sharp bits on every Conner?

    • +7

Bunnings ones aren't sharp, the edges are folded over, 180 degrees. But they're wobbly until you tighten them up and add a load. Bolt multiple units together with the spare bolts for extra wobbly protection. Corner two shelves for even more!

      • Neither is the photo of it on their website.

        Zoom and enhance!

      • +7

I've got 4 of them, (Actually they're now in the shed of my rental). They are the Bunnings ones and although the main shelving sheet metal is folded over, they still do have some very sharp exposed edges (especially when putting together). These things are still quite wobbly even when 2 or more are bolted together (but I put a piece of strapping across them for more support), and the shelves easily bend/buckle when placing moderate weight in the middle of the shelf (a 20kg bag of cement and the shelf was knackered).
At the end of the day I wouldn't use them for anything other than light duty, but still a pretty good price at $9.50.

Edit: Hint to anyone purchasing these:
*Be careful while assembling (sharp exposed edges on some parts), maybe even wear gloves!
*Do not tighten bolts until you have the whole thing assembled, you'll find it's completely out of shape and doesn't line up otherwise!
*And when finished, spread your weight evenly across the shelf if placing more than 20kg on them!

      • I did the same. Bought 2 of them and bolted them together and tightened the nuts when they were joined. Pretty sturdy if you do it that way.

        • Thanks for the advice, Snoop and nytrojen.
How much time would you suggest I put aside for assembly per unit? Granted, after the first one it'll be quicker.

        • +1

@elektron: Our current record is ~8 minutes (YMMV)

        • @muncan:

You're a LOT quicker than me. Took me an hour to do both. Maybe I'm just slow :\ There are a fair few parts though since it's packed down so small. You have assemble the legs from 2 smaller pieces to get them to full length, for example

  • +3

Great for the price! Gonna grab another 4 units to finish one wall section.

  • In the picture it looks like there are gaps on the shelves?

    • +1

The shelves have folds in them for extra strength, like a corrugated fence/roof. About 1mm deep, 6mm wide.

  • damn i bought one last week at bunnings for $16 >:(

    • +14

Buy another and return on the older receipt.

Hey OP, just letting you know there's someone behind you. Cheers.

    • +1

Now you're freaking me out! I just checked behind me ;-)

  • Thanks OP! Great deal!

Just wondering, what are you guys using yours for?

    • +12

      Shelving ;-)

    • +15

I'm using one to hold a whole other bunch of unopened ones.

    • +3

I reckon it would be worth buying 2, and just putting all the shelves into one unit, so an 8 shelf unit in total, and using as a shoerack in my garage which currently has a pile of shoes tossed near the entry to the house.

      • I wouldn't recommend that, would be too unstable. Turning 3 shelves into 2x6 bay units may work though.

        • I'm not sure I understand how bolting 4 individual uprights together in more spots would make it more unstable??? Yes there's the extra weight issue, but it's thin gal and he's only putting shoes on it!

        • I configured my 9 packs as 6 wide x 1.5 high configuration (6x6 shelves). Fills the side of my garage very nicely. Will screw to the wall before loading them up. Finally an OzB trophy shelf…

        • @muncan:
Word of advice, regardless of the claimed max load ratings, do not put more than 20kg directly in the middle of a shelf (Spread weight evenly). One of mine buckled straight away with a single bag of cement!

        • @Snoop: Next time try my advice on cement shelving from 6 months ago ;-) Or people could concentrate the heavier items closer to the legs.

    • +5

Eneloop batteries and HDDs filled with Ebooks.

    • Shoe rack.

    • Made 2 shoe racks out of it, instead of one long one.
As legs are not single unit - you can built two if you want.

  • How do they fit it in such a small pack

    Product Dimensions (mm)
    W:710 H:1370 L:305
    Package Dimensions (mm)
    W:32 H:6 L:70

    • Its legs are not one single unit - it was I guess in pieces. That's how.

      • I think you misread the Bunnings dimensions. They are in millimetres

      • Just in the process of assembling one, legs are in halves..
        Quite compact package.
Shelves have some sort of frame about 1 inch, made by bending down the edges.
        So far I am pleased.

        • I can report now that the shelf is assembled, in position and loaded.
          Happy with it.
Comes with lots of bots and nuts and 6 L shaped braces.
Can be reconfigured into 2 smaller shelves as the feet are to be assembled from 2 halves.
          No sharp edges, no incidents.
Worth every cent of the $9.50 I paid and saved on gas, too, as Bunnings is closer.
          I feel for SuperCheap though…

Waiting for Masters to drop it to $9 :D

  • How do they compare to IKEA HYLLIS?

People seem to be loading those up as well.

    https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/65/3b/08/653b08516…

from the description IKEA one seems to support 25kg where the bunnings one 50kgs- but the Ikea ones look stronger from those pics.

Anyone seen both in real life and able to comment - thinking of buying 5-6 to put together

    • +1

The bunnings one probably isn't something that you'd want to have indoors on display.

      • yep pretty ugly

    • THe ikea one is $14.95 in Perth at the moment. I wonder if its easier to put together than the Bunnings one, I am glad to pay $4.95 not to have to deal with those little nuts again.

    • +1

I've got 3 of the IKEA ones and they are wobbly, in serious need for cross bracing. Works fine with lighter loads, 25kg is pretty accurate.

I'd imagine fixing them side by side would definitely help strengthen the overall structure. (I just realised the additional holes on the sides can be used for this purpose)

After fixing up 2, my 3rd one took around 8 minutes to fix up with an elec. screw driver.

      • Yep, I have two of the IKEA ones and they are pretty flimsy on their own. But mine are in the garaged and fastened to the brick wall!
I think I'll get a few of these Bunnings ones too. You can never have enough shelving.

  • +3

    oh great!
a shelf to store all my ozbargain purchases
that i havnt found a use for yet!

    • +2

……and to stack your next Ozbargain purchase of Quilton toilet paper!
The cupboards inside the house are full of about 3 years worth from the last couple of deals, lol

  • These are a bitch to put together. Built 2 and my fingers omg.

Next time I pay the extra for a click or Boltless system.

Otherwise great price for set a forget shelves. I use mine for left over paint tins, pool chemicals, gardening stuff. Bulk items really.

    • Try using a screw driver next time :p

Seriously though, I put together my IKEA ones (similar to this Bunnings one) with a cordless drill with a magnetic Phillips head attachment.

      • I did. But it's still very fiddly and painful.

  • I don't give a damn about the $0.50 price difference.
    Which is better?
The Supercheap one or the Bunnings one?

    • HA! That is not the OB spirit!

    • pretty sure they are identical

  • Are these similar to the ikea galvanized shelves?

    • The IKEA ones don't have adjustable shelves.
Not sure about the finish though, but I am gonna buy a couple/few Bunnings ones tonight.

Don't waste you money on this product. it is very poor quality!

    • +1

As I already assembled one and currently using it I believe I am allowed to differ in opinion.
I think is worth every cent if you use it as intended.

    • Not really mate, just assembled 1. Very good and sturdy. You need to use all the provided bolts and available holes. Beware it will take you sometimes to finish it. 3 more to go!

      • How long did it take you? Used power tools or muscle?

        • Power tools, 20' with cares as I want them to look nice and sturdy :).

        • @t50:
Power tools on pissy little low tensile 8mm bolts and thin gal? (If so, adjust to very low torque setting!)

      • That just your opion. I don't really think it is sturdy at all. It took me 2hours to assembly this unit.
I don't think it is vell desiged. no wondering cost only $9. I suppose that what I desvered for wot I paid for!

        • +1

I have build many shelf in my garage, sheds in both timbers and steels, this $10 is the best buy. It's not as strong as my own shelf, but it's good enough for my kids to put toys and books or my tools. Anyway, it's just my personal input. Happy weekend!

        • That is just your opinion. Maybe you did not use the right approach or tools?
Best shelf for the price, not a biggie to assemble, no sharp edges, shelves can also be mounted upside down, as a tray for small things.
Great to shelve my vacuum cleaner, eskies and snorkeling gear (I will have to be careful not to store it wet, as I am not sure how the anti-rust coating will cope with ocean water).
I am sorry it disappointed you but maybe you should not extrapolate your experience to a general opinion.

        • @cristtos:

not sure how the anti-rust coating will cope with ocean water

          It's galvanised!!!

  • looking at a few of these as small raized gardens.

  • I bought a similar unit from repco and have been using it to store supplies for the car. They are okay, great value pricewise.

The version I bought was similar in dimension, perhaps it's the same one?s
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/174974

  • Do the SCA ones also have folded edges? I ask this because @ extra 49c per unit my bunnings is further distance + takes more time to buy. Petrol + time.

  • Just put mine together. Very happy with the quality and they are a lot sturdier than i expected. Great buy!

  • Normally I'd be feeling shelfish about my purchase.
But I'm the OP - so they'll go easy on me :-)

  • Nearly 70 left at Bunnings, Wallsend, NSW at 8:30am Sat 4/7 … only went there because Glendale, Bunnings was out of stock by 5:30pm Friday.
