Woolworths - 10% off Flight Centre Gift Cards

160

I have sometimes bought flight centre vouchers from gumtree and booked cheap flights that way.

Simply find the cheapest flight you can get. Note down the details. Ring your closest flight centre, ask them to book those exact flights, pay using your gift card which gets you 10% off.

I've tried it before with low cost airlines and they never have an issue booking it.

The only disadvantage may be not getting your complimentary travel insurance on your credit card.

Good luck.

Just wondering, on the photo of the card it says +$7.50 issuing fee, what's that exactly?

    • There is 5% issuing fee for these FC gift cards for the face value.

Greedy bastards. I missed that too!

        • And these cards expire are 1 year from date of issue.

        • @isdnman:

Thanks! I was just wondering since I haven't seen that type of fee before, not that I buy gift cards that much…

Haha, no probs wazza, we still have 5% off Woolies gift cards to tide us over!

    • From my understanding it would cost you $157.50-10% = $141.75 to purchase the card from WW. The Value of the card would be $150.

      • Thanks RichardL, well I suppose you can buy it with the gift card and bring the discount down slightly… ;)

  • New financial year Flight centre increase prices by 20% ;)

  • Figures. Right after I spend over $3k on these (long story).

  • paid over $5k just last saturday :(

  • Does this only work online?

I'm about to pay for 2 tickets via an Agent at Flight Centre for about $5500. Can I use 30 of these $150 cards to pay????

    • Yep! I've not used it online, only in store

These are really an effective 5.5% discount due to the card issuing fee.

Here is my previous post on it. Feel free to steal my key points and add it here, because I think they're pretty important.

Also isdnman's post has pretty important info too.

  • Sorry to be a pain in the ass, but I'm seriously considering buying these and paying for my 5.5k flights. Is there any way they can not accept them at the shop if I pre-purchase these at woolworths? I'm thinking its an uber pain in the ass for whoever is going to put my payment through and they are probably wondering how I can about 35 of these gift cards.

I also don't want to be in a situation where I'm stranded with 25 gift cards when they will only accept a max of 10 (for example)

    • Nope. My wife and I just did this for a payment of over $3k (see comment above). The Flight Centre experience was nothing compared to the hassle of buying the gift cards from Woolies in the first place! Went through several checkout staff before finally getting a manager who was willing and able to put them through.

      • which woolworths

        • Strathfield NSW. For what it's worth the manager was very nice. The experience prior to receiving his help was… less enthusiastic, let's say.

    • I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to do it. Yes, might be a bit of a hassle but you're technically doing nothing wrong and they have no grounds to refuse it.

  • Just an update guys, they only allow 10 per customer. My wife and I purchased 10 each but will have to do it again to reach the $5500+ required for the purchase. The process wasn't a huge hassle at woolies. Took the salesclerk about 5 minutes per 10 card transaction and he understood as he did the same thing for himself when there was a JB hifi deal a few weeks ago.

More interesting will be how my travel agaent reacts to me showing up with 35 x $150 gift cards. 😃

    • Odd. When my wife bought ours the store manager claimed it was a 5 card limit imposed on them by the system. He manually put through $3k worth of cards for my wife 5 cards at a time…

  • Can one use woolworth wish card to purchase flight center gift card ?

    • Yes. You may run into trouble if you go through a staffed checkout, so best to do self checkout, keeping in mind things like the card limit (see above), etc.
