  • Good deal. I got the garmin 2597 from gg ebay this morning which was good value too.

    • +1

I found tomtom more mature in sense of routing algorithms. I used navman and did not like it at all.

      • navman is behind them all

  • Anyone know which is the best out of the Garmin 2597, Garmin 65LMT and this? They all seem to be in a similar price range. I currently have a Garmin 1450LMT (Old thing from 2012) which is starting to fail, has worked well in its time though.

I don't necessarily need the 6" screen of the 65LMT if that is the only plus for that model but I do like having traffic updates.

I have not used Garmin, however my experience has been really good with tomtom, easy interface, good algorithms, durable. The last one last me for about 6 years and it was still sold as it is because i do not want to buy maps for that.

My TomTom packed up after 8 years , I was looking at getting a new GPS , but I was told to try Here maps on android , so I put it on my 5"smartphone and have decided I dont need a GPS the phone and Here maps are great .

It is worth trying it our before parting with your dollars..

    • I'm also looking for a good GPS. Navman is not worth the money. Spent >$300 for the Navman and its useless.
Haven't used Tomtom. Tempted to buy one. Main reason not using the phone as a GPS is, it drains the battery and the phone gets quite hot over long journeys.

      Spec for the unit:

      Display Size: 5"
      Maps: Australia & NZ
Additional Features: 3D bulidings & landmarks
      Manufacturer's Warranty: 1 Year
      Bluetooth Speakerphone: No
      Lifetime Map Updates: Yes
      Safety Alerts: Yes
      Voice Recognition: Yes
      Spoken Street Name: Yes
      Live Traffic Updates: Yes
      Type: In-Car GPS
      Lane Guidance: Yes

    • Agree. HERE is a great free navigation app. Nokia even throw in the Offline map which is a great bonus.

  • What's the difference between the 50/60 and the 500/600?

    • 500/600 have more features, such as for example live traffic update through mobile phone bluetooth tethering.

      600 one also has higher resolution screen 800 x 480, whereas 500 only 480 x 272.

    • Also I think the *00 series have capacitive screens.

  • +1

    5 is 5" and 6 is 6"

  • It's a pity tomtom doesn't appear to have hands free Bluetooth for the phone.

Just bought the Go5100 - $277 from DSE on a price match with JB HiFi.
Lifetime maps of the world (download the ones you need). Traffic updates via inbuilt SIM (mobile data access round the world). Lifetime speed cameras. Has a cradle windscreen mount to allow for easy removal (when parked).
Double the price but if you are travelling, much more useful.
