Been looking for a good deal on the D5500 since a long time finally today I pulled the trigger. Asked at Jb HiFi to price match Digidirect ongoing price of 808$ for the camera they accepted then purchased 800 dollars of woolworth ewish gift card through cashrewards (account needed) with 5% discount= 760$ head to Woolworth and bought 800 dollars worth of Jb HiFi gift card then head back to Jb HiFi added 8 dollars for remaing balance. 100 dollars Nikon cashback drops the price to 668$ i am sure at this price is a steal! Enjoy sorry for the long post

so much effort
I got confused a bit, had to read it 4 times. Big effort, I'll give you that much..
Where did that price come from. Body only is $899 after cash back https://www.jbhifi.com.au/cameras/dslr/nikon/nikon-d5500-24m…
They price mathced $808 from Digidirect. It would have been in store.
Price matched from Digidirect
Or you can buy the body only from Kogan on eBay for $670.56 and score a $50 eBay voucher with it here (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nikon-D5500-DSLR-Camera-Body-/161…). You also get a day of your life back by not having to jump through the hoops proposed by the OP. The 18-55 is the first thing you'll ditch anyway. If you really want the 18-55 later on, you can buy them used for about $50 pretty easily. And yes, I get that OP's is Oz stock, Kogan is Kogan etc. It's more about whether you value your time or the Oz stock more. Each to their own.
I called for price match, I bought Woolworths ewish gift card online. Woolworth and Jb HiFi were 5 minutes walk each other. If I want to ditch the lens as you said I can sell on e bay for 50 or even a bit more. 668-50= 618 so same deal as kogan but at least you have Australian 2 years warranty and you don't wait for delivery.

Limited buffer memory affects continuous shooting and bracketing when using Raw
No aperture control or Auto ISO in movie mode
No exposure simulation in live view
Buttons are very small
Very basic, often unreliable smartphone app
Missing the GPS receiver of its predecessorOverall Score: 79% (Silver Award)
I just bought this from the Good Guys @ $899 and get a $200 gift card next month. Makes it $699 (Although need to buy $200 worth of something I don't know I need yet).
Oh and I had to buy a $2 sim card to get it over the $900. A bit simpler than what ever that all said up the top! No offence OPThe Jb HiFi I bought the camera from is in Westfield and I had 150 dollars westfield voucher given to me for free from my work this explains all the effort I have put.
You forgot the $ everywhere
