      Did they fill out a form?

      The law a couple of years ago required an ID check when buying prepaid mobile products, and again when you activated. They changed the rules November 2013, removing the ID requirement at the time of sale.

      There may be retail staff who aren't up to speed with the changes.

    Visited The Belmont big W, no stock of 530s, said nothing about 532s (and i didnt see any either). They said no stock at riverton either.

    So I've ended up with one of these phones to use as just a GPS data logger but it appears to be suffering the infamous SD card corruption/unrecognised bug that plagues this model.

    TL;DR: In the light of me being hit by what seems to be a common problem with this model, it may be an idea to check whether yours suffers the same problem by giving any SD card a good read/write exercise before expending any money getting it unlocked.

    My experience: using 32GB Samsung EVO Class 10, 16GB Sandisk Class 4, and a 8GB Kingston Class 4 - all produce the same problem.

    eg. Install Mapfactor Navigator from the Windows Store to the SD card, that's fine. The problem starts when I go to install maps for it, if I'm lucky I'll get just the basemap (71MB but that will usually fail) downloaded and installed on the SD but anything else will just report it failed saying my internet connection failed (no it didn't) or that I've run out of storage space (despite having >1GB free internally and >30GB free on the SD).

    This also happens if I try and do a Win10 update on it, there will be 1.45GB internal free, >30GB SD free but the ~1GB update will go to the internal storage and then the phone will complain that the ~200MB-300MB left isn't enough to update the phone please uninstall something. Everything that can be uninstalled, has been.

    I've soft-reset, hard-reset, and are tempted to hammer-reset it. Only one thing left to try and that's restoring it back to Lumia Cyan, (it updated itself to Lumia Denim).

    If that doesn't work it will be going back as unfit for purpose.

      I must be lucky because I have 2 Samsung EVO 16GB MicroSDHC Cards in both 530s. I updated to latest 8.1 and my kids loaded it with games. Its been 3 weeks all seems to be ok.

        Yeah, well, if it was going to happen to anyone … :/

        Just did a binary compare between the Navigator map files off the Lumia SD card and the same files off my android phone … the Lumia ones just contained rubbish.

        Who knows, maybe when I return it all they'll have is 532's in stock … yeah, right … not with my luck.

          BTW, here was another interesting symptom: when I reset the phone from Settings->About phone I chose to erase the SD card also … it didn't happen.

          The phone was reset but when I went to install an app to the SD card, I got a notification saying that there was data from another phone on it, do I want to format the card.

          These microSD cards are working just fine in cameras, phones, the PC, and a RasPi.

          Currently I'm just waiting for the Lumia Cyan firmware to get flashed in, if it still doesn't work then it goes back.

          EDIT: Phone recovery failed, I'll reset it and try one more time.

          @tdw: Since there is a limit of 4 tickets per account, it is better to have many accounts. Movie ticket is the best value for these tokens, you just need 10 tokens and even with the membership ticket it will cost $12 which means each label worth $1.20.

          These ticket is special which can be used for any day including Sat after 5pm and no surcharge for 3D. If you use the standard value of a 3D ticket it will be $23, which means the label worth $2.30. They even have promotion to double the token value once ;)

        These are from the mysterious flight sale from Jacob's creek last time (I got 5 flights, 6 bottles for 1 flight) and the Catchoftheday 75% off sale recently ($10 for 6bottles) which taste really good, the Clickfrenzy and Chandon deal from Winemarket, and some other champagne deal from Winemarket. The one I bought from Scoopon email deal really sucks, it is the worst wine I've ever tasted.

        Haha, most of my stuffs from the photos are from OZbargain deal, TCL TV $299 from HN, $19 IP Camera from Kmart, and $50 Sony sound bar from OW (it is $99 but display one, missing remote and all cables so they sold me for $50)… =))

        P.S: $10 Monopoly from BigW as well, and I put my name down and got a Lumia 530 as well, can't get 532 at $19 but not so bad.

    I lucked out… I got Officeworks to price match it and realised as they were ringing it up that the difference was that the OW model was an UNLOCKED Lumia 530. So I saved on the unlocking fee and paid $18 for the thing. I don't really need another phone but this should make a great backup phone just in case as well as a music player and GPS.

          [@cooldude123] & scotty: prepaid mobile. Mind you it took 1hr, so make sure you use that free sim it comes with, so you can call them free.
          I just spoke to the 1st drone, esculated to the super and said if not for people like me they'd have no job!
          1st drone offered $100 unlocked
          2nd drones super offered $25
          I called BS and said they can do it and costs them no money and i wanna use it overseas and in australia like all my other phones. Keep pushing and they'll cave. Seriously its a f***ing IMEI and a program they use, first $100 paid by some doosh paid the tech who made it his wages,( and then some) being that its out sourced anyway now.

    Ebay unlock failed - have a message from the vendor. Will try and find out why.

    Edit: sometimes for new stock it can take 2-3 weeks for the manufacturer to update the database. He's refunded me the money and told me to check back in a couple of weeks.

      I tried today and they'd sold all 6 but they'd previously reported stock so I don't think it's restock items.

      Yes, you can.
      Just turn on the internet sharing in the settings you will have the broadcast name and password, very simple and easy to do.

    Told the guy on ebay to do a ozbargain deal, $5.00 unlock, He laughed and said Telstra charge $80 to unlock, I said if you lower your price you will get more customers and therefore make more $$$, he wasn't Interested, going by the feedback here, he can't do them anyway.
