  • Hi OP. I have no idea about boxing gloves, but are these the same?

    • Yes they do the same thing just like this phone https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/198490 can do the same aa a Samsung S6….

      Very strange comment Tightass.

      • Why is it a strange comment? As I said, I have zero knowledge when it comes to boxing gloves. It was a genuine question. My nephew wants boxing gloves as a b'day gift, and I just needed to know if one is better than the other. I know the answer now and will be buying them from the rep. Cheers.

        • Do you know why your nephew wants them? Is it purely for bag work?

If so, I'd recommend some Sting boxing mits. I bought a pair 6 months back, still going strong (these ones http://www.rebelsport.com.au/Product/Sting-ArmaPlus-SAS-Boxi…)

Whereas the Smai boxing mits I bought from my trainer (prior to buying the Sting ones) tore at the seam where the velcro is sewn onto the mit, only a few weeks after buying them. The Smai's I bought were different to the ones posted by the OP though.

In saying all this, if you want quality, go proper leather, just be prepared to pay extra.

But if you just want some gloves for casual training, either the ones you linked or the Smai gloves posted by the op should be fine.

FWIW, Smai's a known brand in the boxing world, the one you linked to isn't (if that makes any difference).

        • +1

          @Baltoski:

Cheers, appreciate the feedback. He probably wants them to knock me out lol.

  • HI tightarse,

i cant say that i have ever heard of that brand, and its hard to comment on the product without seeing them in person but looking at the image they look they are not the best quality, and the gloves above are using injected latex, where as these seem to be using just foam which over time will not retain their shape comfort,

the thing to bare in mind with SMAI products is that they are designed to long term use they are a premium product that is not build just for one use but for continued use every day, and for hard use to.

any other questions please just ask !

    many thanks !

    JP

    • Thank you for the explanation. Will be putting an order through soon. Many thanks!

  • Hi OP. What's 'Syntec leather'? I'm guessing a synthetic material and not in fact leather.

  • Hi op, appart from the looks, tell me why I should buy yours over http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Farabi-4-oz-MMA-gloves-sparring-t…. Thanks

    • Different uses.

The ones the OP posted are much better suited to bag work/training.

Whereas the ones you linked to are purely for MMA sparring.

In reality, if you're keen on doing MMA, you'd have both a set like the ones you linked to and a set similar to the ones the OP has posted.

Edit: Sorry, I posted the above in reference to the OPs first link.

If your comment is in respect to the OPs MMA glove posting though, then please disregard what I've written above.

    • DO NOT use 4oz for bag work, there is not enough padding for your knuckles. Use 14 - 16oz instead.

4 oz is for MMA where you grapple half the time so don't need as much padding.

By using 4oz you risk getting Boxer's Knuckle which is quite unpleasant

      http://heavyfists.com/bare-hands-punching-bag

I use 4oz for MMA, 10 - 14 for sparring (boxing) and 16oz for the bags

  • Sorry but I find SMAI products to be as bad as Everlast brand stuff, had a SMAI thai pad that lasted 3 months of use before material was falling off and plastic grip thingy came off.
