  • … so this isn't actually a bargain.. it's a pre-bargain post…

    • a premature bargain post? :D

      • +5

        giving you the heads up.

        launches in 6 mins

        • What launches the service or the $29 fares? I see no $29 fares.

  • Where is Avalon? :p

    • nfi

      • +1

About an 45 min to an hr south of Melbourne closer to Geelong

        • Hmm. More like 45min max from Melb.

        • @smpantsonfire: so tullamarine is closer?

        • +1

Depends where you live I guess, if North, East or South, then yeah. But Avalon is a nice small airport.

        • @smpantsonfire: Obviously you haven't been heading there in traffic.

  • +1

    i cant see anything $29

    • Either can I

      • Starts Feb 2016

  • 2 Feb until 22 March 2016. Available most days in that period.

    • Now only Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

  • -2

How do I down vote Jetstar!!!

What a way to launch a new service. You'd think they would have a first 500 bookings or first 1000 seats @ $29.

No wonder my local Airport won't take-off, they will be complaining about patronage and then pull the service again.

Rant over! (Have accommodation booked in the Gold Coast in December).

  • Thanks!

  • The problem with flying out from Avalon is the high price of car park due to non-existing competition of similar service in the area. A 3-day parking at Avalon Airport costs $ 69, which is more expensive then the $ 29 air fares.

Does anyone have any suggestion to lower the parking cost for people who have to drive to Avalon? Is there any place to park your car around the airport area for free? I'm willing to walk >3km to save $ 69 as I am pretty tight lol.

    • +16

you can park at my place and I'll give you a lift and pick you up. (I live 15 mins from Avalon) Cost - nil.

      • +2

562 clicks worth of Airport Pickups? You're very generous SM :)

        • hehehe. Disclaimer : That was just for Gorodemon at this point in time, you are right, could get out of hand real fast. Inbox me Gorodemon if that would help, plenty of parking space here.

      • +2

Quick do an edit, charge $40 and then make bank off this deal.

        • +1

Great idea! I'll give you 30% of all monies received.

      • +8

You sir, are a selfless soul and I thank you for your generous intention. However, I am afraid I must refuse as I do not wish to inconvenience my fellow OZBargainers by my irregular travel schedules. You can imagine how annoying it would be to be visited by a stranger late at night, requesting to park his car and drop him off at Avalon.

I may be tight but I also have empathy for others :)

    • I guess you could drop your stuff off, drive to the train station and park there?

Otherwise, a V/Line to the station, ~$8 and a $20 taxi? This would only be worth it if you were staying longer than 3 days really.

    • +3

      as I am pretty tight

You my friend, have come to the right place.

    • Surely there is public transport of some descript. If not to the airport, within 3km of it?

  • The amount of times I progressed through to payment only to have the error message telling me someone else had snapped up the tickets. Ridiculously frustrating and now my dates are gone :(

    Ah well…

    • Do the online chat, tell them what happened. They'll probably put you in there.

      • +1

Don't really have much of an argument here, it's a first-come-first-serve promotion… took your advice and the chat told me to give them a call. No luck in the end.

Really got my hopes up for nothing, but I can live without the holiday - $156 RETURN flights for 2 People, but then factoring in accommodation (~$100/night) + theme park access + spending money… it's still a $1000 for a week.

GREAT bargain… just trying to justify my loss to feel better :P

  • Nothing on the weekends :(

  • Sorry for the noob question, but can so done please explain the post?

I understand that the flights begin on 26OCT, and flight times follow that.

Then "12-4pm $29" does this mean this price is only available during these hours? Or is this a special introductory price, and is only available today between those hours?

And then there is a narrow window of about a month an a half listed, what does this mean? (2FEB - 22MAR)

    Thanks!

    • "12-4pm $29" is only available today between those hours.
'a narrow window of about a month an a half listed, what does this mean? (2FEB - 22MAR)'
means that is when Jetstar are offering seats for sale. They are attempting to fill their aircraft Avalon-Gold-Coast-Avalon for that 6-7 weeks in 2016.

      • Thank you!

I see, so despite these flights starting later this year, the deal is for seats on flight during that ~6 week window next year, and not for all flights (as I first thought)

  • Good deal for us country people, big scary melbourne airport makes it hard for some ..

  • +1

deal doesnt even work on the website at the moment just crashes

  • -5

Their website is slow, you have to click through 5 pages of them trying to "upsale" you - with chargable extras already selected by default, then get to the end after enter CC details "sorry selected fare already sold to someone else"

So I go through again, a bit less leisurely this time and skip the seat selection which is an additional extra and do direct deposit because it's quicker to get the booking through - same problem again

Third time's a charm - gets through. Had to pay an extra $100 all up (two of the fares were $79 instead of $29) because of Jetstar's incompetence.

Just made the booking and already I have a sour taste in my mouth with Jetstar.

At this point, I'll just grab the tickets this time to get from A to B, and then Jetstar can get lost.

PS - Negging because all the $29 fares are practically gone now, and coupled with the horrendous booking process - having to continually enter your details again because every time you pick a fare it is sold out by the time you get to payment, so it's not really a deal for anyone who comes on now. Even ticketmaster/tickettek have the decency to hold it for 5 minutes while you go through payment and upsale attempts

    • +1

That's really shifty! Thanks for sharing your unfortunate experience with us.

      • -1

Just to follow up I tried Jetstar's customer service and they wouldn't do anything to allow me to cancel the $79 return leg without losing the $29 leg completely, or even allow me to apply the $79 towards another flight (i.e. so I could return to Tullamarine instead).

  • -3

thats not really the OP's fault . jetstar payments are always slow

    • +4

He negged the deal, NOT the OP! People like you are ruining OB.

      • -1

Since when did deals that get OzBargain'd a reason to neg?

        • +1

While that was an illegitimate item to bring up… He does have a point that the advertised fare isn't really acheiveable in the real world.

        • Jetstar should at least hold it for a reasonable amount of time while the booking process is being made. I completed the process in the minimum possible time and it still wasn't quick enough. Technically I think that it is false advertising to offer a price that is impossible to get, and I will be asking Consumer Affairs if my interpretation is correct on that.

The only recourse that Jetstar can offer is a refund of the entire booking (can't make part changes)… and miss out on the deal completely.

        • @The Land of Smeg:

Technically I think that it is false advertising to offer a price that is impossible to get

Obviously not impossible then, is it? All the other people that were able to get in before you may believe it is indeed possible. I technically think you're overreacting and I'm getting you a "I want to speak to your manager" starter kit for Christmas.

        • +1

@Dagmar: Obviously we have a difference of opinion, but I think it should be possible for anyone who gets an offered price be able to get that offered price if they act right away at the time that the price if offered to them - unless it is supposed to be some kind of contest. Otherwise if there is no chance of being able to get it, then it shouldn't be offered in the first place. I'm not referring to this deal on OzBargain, I'm talking about their website itself that offers it during the booking process.

They didn't have an adequate amount of supply at the time that the price was offered in the booking system for that price to go through. I managed to get the same price but on a different day, but only for one leg and only by luck.

I think it is perfectly reasonable for their system to hold it while the booking is completed at a normal person's pace, or at least if the fare is not available by the time you get to the payment to at least be offered to change it without starting the entire process again.

I think that the system is set up to encourage customers to click through the steps very quickly without reading it in order for them to be able to grab the fare while they can, increasing the chance that an optional extra will stay selected (not that the customer actually wants the extra) and that they have no time to actually read the terms and conditions that they are expected to agree to. Maybe you subscribe to the USA-style of capitalism where a business can do whatever they want because it's in the fine print (and "F** YOU you deserve it" if you are screwed over) but I like to think that Australia is better than this.

Yes, I did ask to speak to their Supervisor… for the record.

It would be like placing an order at the cash register, the cashier is able to ring up the item no problem, but then when it comes to payment to say "sorry, sold out" (even though stock should have been confirmed when it was rung up), and then kicking the customer out of the queue to line up all over again after that. Then when you complain that you didn't order it properly because you felt pressured to do it so quickly so you don't miss out on the stock and then get kicked out of the queue, you are told to either cancel the whole order (and miss out on what you did manage to get), or to suck it up and get lost.

          @The Land of Smeg:

I'm talking about their website itself that offers it during the booking process.

I did read your whole post and I see where you're coming from. When it comes to prices like these, it's just a case of "first in, best dressed". You have a major issue with the company, that's your prerogative and I encourage you to neg these sort of deals in the future. I took your comments as you having a whinge you didn't get in on time.

Obviously we have a difference of opinion

We do indeed. I have no problem with people getting in before me if I'm too slow. However, like I said, I do agree with your neg vote now that you've explained it a bit better.

    • +1

Not OP's fault at all! Thanks OP for letting me get a $29 fare at all and even the $79 fare on the way back is not really a bad price, but it is unfair how Jetstar's booking process works that the fare is not always achievable even if you complete the steps right away, and they even try to trick you into buying extras that are selected by default because they know that customers have to scramble to get through the booking steps to get the fare on time.
