Supercheap Auto Club Plus Members: Dot 4 Brake Fluid $3, Funnel $1 Today and Tomorrow

130

Hi guys,

I'm surprise no one posted this yet. Maybe you all bought your Bosch brake fluid when Repco had it for $5?

Anyways, today and tomorrow, SCA heavy duty Dot 4 will be $3 (limited to 3 per person blah blah), Flexible funnel for $1 for Club plus members. Now if you are not a member, join now for $5, you get $10 initial credit. That converts to 1 bottle of brake fluid and 2 funnel for FREE.

I wouldn't recommend stocking brake fluid, as these bottles are close to their shelf expiry date. Just buy if you need a brake fluid change in the next few months or so. These are pretty standard under DOT regulations so there's not much difference, or even identical, between SCA brand and OEM ones. I think PBR or Bosch makes these for SCA.

i agree. especially that little sieve :)

repco were selling a similar funnel once so i picked one up when buying some engine oil. worker asks me if i'm going to use that funnel for oil. yes. oh no, he says, you can't use it because the oil is too thick and won't flow through it fast enough. marches over and predictably picks a funnel costing several times more. insisted i've used this funnel before for oil and it was just fine. he wasn't as friendly after that; he must have thought i could be fooled into thinking engine oil had the viscosity of molasses.

The sieve on SCA can be removed anyway.

I love the flexible part of these funnels, get 3 and attach them together and they can reach anywhere you want it reach. Especially those b@$t@rd transmission / differential fluid holes.

Relax, it's 'On board with driver for delivery tomorrow'

  • I wouldn't recommend stocking brake fluid, as these bottles are close to their shelf expiry date.

Please to explain? Have a bottle here and I don't see any date codes or anything.

    • There should really be some dates on them, I remember they were dark green around bottle neck, very hard to see. There is a reason SCA and Repco clear their brake fluid every year.

Anyways, general rule is that brake fluid are hydroscopic, it will attract moisture by itself, even in a sealed plastic container. This is why years ago, they used to store them in metal container. I'm not sure how true it is, but for a few dollars, its better to be on the safe side. It could be a marketing fairy tale, I wouldn't know. If you want to double check, maybe get a DOT 4 calibrated brake fluid tester to test that theory.

With enough moisture in a braking system, as the system heat up when you brake, water evaporate into air creating voids. Hence, you have to bleed air from the system. Also moisture can cause corrosion and screw up braking system. This is what I was told.

This is why manufacturers recommend changing brake fluid every 2 years. But then again, I've known people who left it in for 5-7 years before changing.

      • Spent about 10 minutes looking but can see them, maybe I'm just blind. Did notice an older castrol bottle has its manufacture date on the cap however. Oh well, I intend to use it shortly after I get it so no big deal.

        • Thats really strange, you make me curious now. Next time I'm at SCA, I'll be sure to check it out lol

        • @Azn310:

Not to worry, picked up the 3 I ordered and they do have dates printed on it (exp. 2017) however the original one I had doesn't, must be a manufacturing screwup. Another great mystery solved.
