The Lenovo K3 Note looks like it might be worth the extra BTW.

Blooboo however has a huge battery though (5300mah, claimed manufacturer, though we know China-droids always lie about capacities). Could be interesting choice.

  • having used a thl phone for a couple of years now the only thing that really bugs me is the build quality, i absolutely would buy another chinese android phone but only if it's well made.

has anyone used this brand before? or is it simply safer to stick to popular brands like elephone or big brands like lenovo?

Popular brands will have a bigger community support, and a much higher chance that somebody smart will work on a ROM for it. However it can be hard to work out what phone models are popular and what are not, as the Chinese smartphone industry seems to prefer churning out dozens of different models each year rather than focusing on one particular flagship.

The best place to check for signs of development is to search on XDA.

Going by capn' electrode's comment below his device appears to be afflicted with the curse of preloaded Chinese system apps (and even malware or adware). To really get rid of the below issues you'd ideally root, unlock the bootloader, install a custom recovery and then re-flash the ROM with your own stock image but that's only possible if there are resources online to do so.

      • good points.

i have actually installed gravitymod on my thl w8.

the lenovo k3 note has been rooted and the elephone p6000 (or was it p7000?) is the first chinese phone supported by cyanogenmod.

btw on your table above, the code is no longer valid for the k3 note, it is now 160usd, and the weight for the x550 is 185g.

        • I wouldn't say the first :)
Xiaomi, Oppo and One Plus One have had the luxury for quite some time!

  • I have no idea what Bluboo is like, but it may be worth considering some potential issues.
I have a Chinese Android tablet (Ainol Novo Hero 10.1") It's great for the money, but the software is rooted to the tablet. If the tablet is hard re-set (I don't think it can be soft re-set)it defaults back to Chinese, necessitating following blind instructions to change it back to English (Click third Chinese character down, then fifth etc). It also came with about fifteen apps that are in Chinese. Only a few could be deleted. The other eleven apps could not be deleted and constantly run in the background. I had to install a program that prevents any chosen programs from running. It checks every couple of minutes and those same eleven programs always re-start after a while.
I'm still happy with my purchase, but those little things could drive some people nuts. (If the phone happens to have any similar problems.)

All you need is root uninstaller since you have already root access. With that tool you can uninstall the apps you don't want

      • Would that be this one on google play?

        • One of many. Does the job. Lets you uninstall pre installed apps.

        • @dosada: Cheers, will check it out.

      • Thanks. I didn't know such a thing existed. Upon my original research, people claimed Ainol tablets couldn't be unrooted. (Cue rude jokes)I didn't know there was a way to uninstall separate programs that came as part or the pre-installed software. I'll have to give it a go. It appears that program has another great feature of backing up system files. I had games on my installed micro SD card, before I did the hard reset. After resetting, the tablet no longer saw the programs because the short-cuts were gone. Reading the card in my PC, Windows couldn't see the programs either, so I had to reinstall everything, losing all my saved games.
