Bose Soundlink Mini For $209 Delivered via David Jones ($169 with AMEX)

500

I've been waiting for this for a while, by combining two deals, you can get the Bose Soundlink Mini for $169.

Deal 1 - AMEX $40 rebate: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/192897
Deal 2 - David Jones 30% off Bose Sale: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/196633

You can also get 1,045 bonus Qantas points through the Qantas Mall OR $14.63 cash back (7%) through Cash Rewards. Total $154.37 if you combine the AMEX rebate, DJs sale and cash back from Cash Rewards.

Compared to the Sony SRS-X3, it's a hell of a lot more expensive (especially if you get the SRS-X3 on sale), similar sound quality, and lacking convenient NFC pairing. However, on the positive side, you can play it while it charges (SRS-X3 ran out of juice on me last night), is smaller, and looks much better (subjective).

Thanks to Fishy for posting the original deal and ozibargainer for the DJs deal.

I paid $ 10 for that Dr Dre knock off. Will this Bose sound $ 159 better than my current one?

      yes it will.

It'll definitely sound much better! The real question, for most people, is whether to get the cheaper Sony SRS-X3 or not.

      Sony Pros: Cheaper, NFC.
Bose Pros: Smaller, better looking, can play while charging.

If you want the Sony, look out for a Dick Smith sale on it.

      • The Sony SRS-X3 can charge while playing as well.

The speaker can be charged while the speaker is connected to the supplied USB AC adaptor even when the speaker is playing music. (The CHARGE indicator does not light up.) However, since the charging time may be longer depending on the use condition, we recommend that the speaker is turned off while charging.

The Soundlink Mini has surprisingly rich, full sound for the size. Bose products usually feel overpriced but this seems to hit a sweet spot, especially at this price. The bluetooth setup can be a little finicky with multiple devices but if you stick to one main source (computer or phone) repairing is pretty simple.

It's quite heavy for it's size which speaks to the quality of the magnets. Opposing drivers cancel out any vibration/buzz. I use mine as a TV soundbar via the AUX jack and as a portable speaker around the house and in the backyard.

    • Whilst i dont have an SRS-X3 or Bose soundlink mini ive heard both plenty of times and every time i hear the sony i think the sound quality is pretty muffled and uninspiring. Ive never had that experience with the bose so i find it hard to beleive theyre on par accoustically.

I've got both the X3 and the SoundLink Mini.

The Bose definitely sounds more full-bodied, but the highs are just barely acceptable.
The X3 sounds thinner but the highs are better. The lows are just average though. You can hear the lows being compressed.

Some songs would sound better on the bass-heavy Bose, some would sound better on the lighter Sony.
I prefer the SLM's full-bodied sound, but really wish it could have the highs of the Sony.

I had the UE Boom too. It's like a nicer-sounding X3, but with even less bass.

As a long time Bose user, Bose is simply brilliant.

    • +2

      Better sound through research.

I know they say this as a tagline, but in my experience it is actually true. Their active noise-cancelling headphones on a plane are a method to become nearly sane again!

        • +1

It's true. Their QC25s are absolutely fantastic

  • Is there anyway of getting Qantas Mall Points + Cash Rewards at the same time? Anyone tried?

Have little understanding of how the 'cookies' work in terms of tracking purchases.

  • +4

Bose sound quality is marginally better, but I couldn't fault the UE Boom's if you are looking for portability and outdoor use.

    • +1

I prefer the UE Boom because it acts as a loudspeaker for hands free calling, waterproof and can be daisy-chained.

Still, this has a slightly nicer sound - more of a seismic low-end.

      • I was initially looking at the Bose, but found the sound too muddy - ie muddy bass heavy.

I looked at the JBL Charge 2 and was much more impressed. It also had a longer battery life, could charge phones, and runs on micro USB charger.

All in all, I preferred it and have been very happy with it. The JBL Charge 2 has great tight bass, and much better sound than the original JBL Charge.

      +1 for the ue boom

  • I have been waiting for something like this for quite some time now. Thanks OP!

  • The NFC is convenient, but not that much more convenient. I had to figure out how to turn on the NFC first :)

  • ah (profanity), I bought one a week ago

  • Out of stock already

    • Still showing as in stock for me?

This speaker is on a different level to the Sony x3. I have both and the bose is definitely better. Good deal for that price, roughly twice as expensive as the x3 on sale but gives better sound and is better built.

The x3 does have the handy feature that it can be turned on/off using your phone + the microphone for taking calls.

  • I've one sitting in the kitchen and it's brilliant. Crisp clear sound and nice bass. I would recommend this to anyone.

  • +1

Same as everyone has said. Amazing speaker. Great price.

  • Fantastic product. At that price, I may just buy a second!

  • Ozbargained :( "Error:Sorry, an error has occurred while trying to retrieve the inventory status of this product."

    • Works for me. Just tried now…

    • I got same message. Order can't go through

      • Same message here.

  • Does anybody know when this deal ends?

    • It's not working anymore at the moment, so I guess it's ended. Unless they replenish stock tomorrow, maybe.
The page says it's in stock but you can't check out.

  • Would've got it had I not bought two of the HP roars last month for 33 bucks delivered.

    • Mine arrived today. Loving it.

      • Awesome, mine arrives on Friday. Can't wait!

I know we are not really talking about the Sony SRS-X3 in this conversation, but here's a deal in anyone is interested

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/speakers/sony-portable-speaker-s…

    • That would be about right.. Placed an order late last night figuring that the one day special would be about the cheapest it gets… then i check this morning and its $2.50 cheap.. $90.25..

wish I could cancel the order and re-order it..

      • Umm, with the code, I got this for $74. If I could, I would cancel it too. Although i'm not sure if the deal was only until this Sunday.
