Especially when the damn chip isn't even on par with the Snapdragon 400.
The only things it has going for it is its water resistance which while handy (support won't be able to argue against you about water damage any more!) isn't all that important most of the time and 1.5GB of ram vs 1GB lot of phones in mid lower end has.
bahahahahaha you're dreaming happychappy. name one phone (that isn't some cheap no name chinese brand) with equal or better specs that you can buy locally with AU warranty for less than $149.
Moto G, if you count the fact that this phone costs $$ to unlock and has touchwiz bloat which means 1.5gb ram will be gone quickly. Also the slow Samsung CPU. Moto G happens to be water resistant.
I think $149 is almost impossible, but if you take the waterproof function and lollipop update out of the equation, Galaxy S3 4G beats this phone in terms of RAM (2GB) and SoC. It was $249 from k-mart (though it was locked to Optus).
My honest opinion on these budget phones by major companies is, go for the flagships from the past, since usually they have more user base and more software support.
@AznMitch: The Y550 is the best IMO. Its battery life is excellent and the screen is very good for the price (much better than the cheap TN on the Lumia 530). I reckon its almost better than my nexus 5 for day-to-day use, except for the camera. It just goes and goes.
$149 would be for the camera, screen and waterproof, oh and the storage. That's it. This doesn't even have a noise cancelling mic, which is in the Y550.
@happychappy1: I've heard that it's really good in terms of bang for the buck, whereas Samsung budget phone… It's so much better to grab a flagship from past few years, if you want something from Samsung at cheaper price (imo).
@AznMitch: Samsung phones aren't great IMO, they still have that awful home button that's worse than just tapping on a capacitive home button, and they're mostly loaded with bloat.
@happychappy1: Each to their own. I personally like the physical buttons slightly more (that being said I don't really care tbh), but that I think it's personal preference. Though that being said, Touchwiz is awful in terms of optimisation, so I've heard. I haven't had any problems with my phone though. My tablet is a bit laggy, but I am going to wait till Lollipop at least. I've read forum posts about how CM makes it better, but I'd rather not lose the warranty (and I like multi-window).
It's prepaid and locked to Telstra.
it says $299 through the link.
Why is this post not showing up on the ozbargain.com.au main page list? It only shows up in the search or on the side bar.
Still too expensive. Drop it down to <$149 and we can talk.
