  • You can get these price matched at Kmart as well of it's more convenient. Did it last time and it was straightforward.

    • +2

No point as you cant take advantage of 10% Off & 7.5% Gift cards

    • +1

Quick q: do the same device @ kmart or officeworks all come with the 3 months of Netflix?
I see officeworks has it, but no mention of Netflix.

  • Is 3G a typo?

    • +3

      why would it be?

    • +2

That's why it's cheaper. Pay more for a modem to access a faster network speed. Telstra deals on here with 4GX modems, with free Presto.
      Not all locations have 4G.

      • I'm thinking of buying purely for the data. If I put the sim in an unlocked Telstra MF910 will it connect at 4G speeds?

        • +1

Yes, as long as modem frequency is same as Optus, & you set up modem APN settings for Optus (Google it), via the Dashboard.

Mind you for Data, the $1 Telstra Starter Packs at Coles ($30 spend on groceries etc, ending tonight) set up on new Data Pass with 3GB + $30 to spend at at Google Play, are hard to beat.

Best to get more than 1 of those, then…

Currently, by moving credit from another Telstra SIM $1 at a time for 1GB, will give more data for the buck. $2 for 27GB!! & my suggested better option including calls & more data for same price!.

  • It's for the $11.99 netflix plan, for those curious.
    2 HD streams.

    • I think people have said it works as 'credit' so you could upgrade to the higher plan, but only get 2-and-a-bit months per code. Not sure if true

    • +4

I think it's just a Netflix credit of 3 x $11.99 that can be used with any of the plans right? So if you wanted the SD plan, you'd actually get more than 3 months out of this. I've also heard that this credit can be applied to the US Netflix (but that requires a VPN to get around the region blocking @ around $5/mo).

Oh, yeah and anyone who actually wants this deal for the device, the battery life might be a consideration. I use it on the train for 2 x 1hr each day and I need to charge it daily. If it weren't for my inability to turn down free Netflix at the moment, I would have bought a device with better battery life (at several times the cost tho).

      Edit: added second para.

You should carry a portable powerbank. Mine has two usb outputs which I use to charge both my phone and the portable wifi device in emergencies.

  • Silly question, does Netflix have all the recent release movies like iTunes Store or just older ones like Foxtel?

    • As recent as Guardians of the Galaxy

      • +1

but of course $12 a month is not going to give you access to 'all' the new releases.

    • +1

Netflix in general has mainly older content. Only shows they produce themselfs are always up to date. Australian Netflix has quiet a small amount on content compared the the US. A quick google will surely find what is available at any given time on Netflix.
I am also pretty sure there content changes month to month.

  • Is there any reliable sites where I can find the latest Netflix AU catalogue?

    Tried searching - no luck

  • I know Optus has a deal for "Quota Free Streaming" of Netflix. Would that apply when streaming Netflix through this Optus 3G Modem?

  • There's also a USB modem with 3GB data for $19. I assume it would also come with Netflix credit?

    • +1

      Yes :)

For the extra small amount, probably more likely to re-sell this modem, as oppose to the $19 one though

      • OK thanks.

I'm only interested for the cheap Netflix, so I'll go with the cheaper modem!

  • These are cellular right? I wonder if you could rip them open and get a working data SIM?

    • +2

Why, it comes with a data SIM you install.

That's also why people want to know if it can be unlocked, so can be used with another Telco, by inserting a different SIM.

      • Ahk gotcha - so yes in essence ;)

  • Do you have to be a new netflix customer to take this on? Can I credit it to my existing Netflix account?

    • +3

I credited to existing Netflix account.

  • Now to find the store with stock…think is easy?

    • +1

      You have 3 days time.

  • +1

these do come unlocked, i've chucked in a telstra sim and it worked, however the frequencies arent the best

  • Two quetsions:

    1. Do I need to activate the SIM to get the netflix offer?
    2. Can I stack multiple Optus netflix offers onto my Netflix account? (e.g: I buy three of these modems, I get 9 months free?)
    • +2
      1. Yes.
      2. Yes. It's effectively a $30 netflix voucher, and you can stack them. (I'm not sure on the exact value as I use US netflix).
      • Cheers mate!

        • +1

Do you need to register different emails to get it stacked to get the 9 months free? (if purchase 3).

        • +1

          @mooreshady:
No you get vouchers that can be applied to any netflix account including us accounts (i have 18 months of us netflix credit now =))

        • +1

@berserkk: wow then in this case we can all buy ALOT and stack up to 24 months+++++………….

        • @mooreshady: the mobiles for 15 were better for netflix

        • @berserkk: which promo was that?

        • +1

optus f286 $14.95 that was from officeworks but they had it the following week at coles as well

  • +1

If mobile broadband is all that you can get then this offer seems pretty okay…

12gb @ $40 / month with Virgin appears to be the best offer going.

10gb @ ($22.05*2 = $44.10) with this offer. Includes 2x modems that you could sell for perhaps $15ea if you really wanted to, bringing it down to 10gb @ ~$10 with netflix thrown in too.

    Seems like a winner?

    • dont go with virgin their network is slow compared to other networks like vodafone and telstra

      • +1

        As in Optus?

  • Can you sell the 3 months netflix for a better discount?

  • I am going away in a few weeks, can I potentially activate the sim later and get 5gb or is there a cutoff date?

    • To get the free included 3 month Netflix offer, you need to activate the sim before 5th July, but you can still activate the sim after that for the 5GB / 30 days data up to the expiry date printed on the side of the box ( should be early to mid 2016 ).

OzBargain makes me think of RPG card games sometimes:

"I cast Huawei E5251, making my Netflix free for three months!"

    "Okay, well then I-"

"WAIT! I also cast Family and Friends offer, increasing the savings by 10%!"

    "Alright, I'll cast-"

"HANG ON, I THEN PLAY BIG W DISCOUNT GIFT CARD! This gives me a further 7.5% savings!"

"Now I remember why I don't play OzBargainRPG with you"

  • also,
if i have a netflix account, can this 3 month offer work? so i get 3 months free instead of paying?

    • yes

  • +2

These have all sold out at nearby big w stores. Ended up getting one from Officeworks for just under $25, they apparently have new stock at all oz stores.

    • Yeah, it seems like the people who bought it all before the BigW 10% discount on the weekend aren't true OzBargainers and they got ripped off!

  • Been struggling to find these anywhere in Melbourne too :(

  • i got one from Dicksmith for $29.

After activation yet to receive the netflix code… Can anyone tell how much time does it take usually to receive the code?

  • Same here, how do i receive the netflix code? its been quiet a few days now

  • I activated my sim and received the code in 2 days.
