    • +5

haha, can you eat the umbrella instead

    • +7

My store got a delivery of umbrellas last night…

      • +1

        Which Brissie store, thanks.

        • No stock of umbrellas or breakfast makers at Carindale :-(

      • +1

        Thats so informative..

    • -1

i dont get it…. what would be so wrong with getting one?

      • +9

I'm guessing he's having a go that Big W never seem to have any stock of their sale items….I tend to agree from past experience.

        • +9

It amazes me that people don't understand what a clearance sale is.

        • fair enough indeed. i guess if you didnt go today when the sale started not much luck of getting anything. Good thing i asked the missus to go grab some stuff as im at work all day.

        • @scorpionsa: Not that unusual/unreasonable that that was interpreted as being "there is something wrong with the umbrella" as opposed to "there is hardly any stock", because "there is hardly any stock" could apply to everything that is for clearance.. i.e. everything in this deal.

        • @scorpionsa:

It's not that they don'tknow, they just feel entitled to it.

      • Good haul!

      • -5

        …I was crossing my fingers

        • Better eat your fingers then :P

        • +3

Please eat ur 5 bucks, in 5 cents coins and upload to YouTube for our entertainment.

      • is the staff discount cause you work at big w?

      • Staff discount is only 5%?!

        • +1

Use a 7.5% discount eGift Card or combine the 2:-)

      • Were there any left at Mt Ommaney?

      • Staff Discount is a telling item
It suggests you were able to set one aside before the shop opened

    • Got one also! As well as 2 of Hamilton Beaches, as well a few other things that I'm not sure if i needed..

    • Fountain Gate Big W had at least a dozen large umbrelllas when I popped in during lunchtime today.

I bought a $5 trampoline (for the kids), $% nerf guns, some metal drink bottles ($1 each) and skylanders figurines ($4 each).

    • There was umbrellas at Doncaster big w this morning

    • I hope you bought yourself one of the breakfast makers, so you can make yourself a nice big breakfast $5 sandwich :)

  • +1

There's that Hamilton beach breakfast maker which makes a bacon and egg muffin for $5 down from $39

    • I have been looking at that for a while. At 5 bucks im definitely going to see if I can get one of those.

  • maybe there are only 50 of these Australia wide!

    • -2

Mostly already bought by staff members. See above.

  • Breakfast maker how does one find stock without having to visit every store in wa.

  • +1

Big W's Drop Zone has usually got some half decent products and pricing. But let's be honest, the items they place on advertisements are, as they say, "Too Good To Be True!"
Good luck finding any of these in store.

  • Can you do layby for these items if you call and it's in stock?

    • Big W are pretty vocal about the fact they have no rainchecks on deals, so that would be a definite no.

  • Hmmm why not online.. I hate it when its instore only - too painful I like a few clicks and pay online lol!

    • Because it would cost a lost more that $5 to ship a huge umbrella

      • Could always offer click'n'collect which they have done in the past sales a while ago :@)

  • +5

Finally I can replace my Wormwood umbrella with a larger one….

  • Not listed online but also on sale is Luminess Tan Kits for $5
    https://www.luminesstan.com/airbrush-tanning-system.aspx

    http://s4.postimg.org/ks2ri7r3x/Tan.jpg

  • I did notice the Elmo speaker and the Jamie Durie bean bag in stock at Big W Epping, Victoria.
About 6 of each left last night.

there was also an ipad mini mothers day box for $5. It had fluffy pink headphones an ipad cover and a blow up neck rest thing.
actually didn't look too bad for $5 if you don't mind pink and fluffy. at least 20 packs left last night.

    • Will head to Big W after working to try and grab a bean bag

      • FYI, seen in the Bean bag area, not the Drop Zone area.

  • So are all these items in a specific "zone" in the store or in their respective sections?

    • +1

      It depends on store.
Some are in their usual location, some have been put on the ends of the aisles and others in the drop zone area.
Most, but not all have drop zone tags.

    • +1

Brisbane has them all over the place.

  • BigW MacArthur (bne) has no umbrellas or trampolines, but a few breakfast and drink makers. 2 graters left.

  • +2

Thanks for the post OP. So many times I've gone in to pick up something from these Drop Zone posts only to find just crap… Yet now I find myself tempted to do it yet again. Glutton for punishment…

  • See you all in Big W stores soon. :-)

  • Wouldn't a steel umbrella be noisy when it's raining?

    • On the plus side, you can use it as a Bo staff should you get mugged while carrying this umbrella and it's less likely to break if it's steel.

And where are the 50 so called Drop Zone specials? :/

Only 20 are listed on the link provided!

Seems like Big W are now emulating Dicks Dodgy Deals which doesn't surprise since they own DSE! :(

    • +5

BigW's parent, Woolworths does not own DSE and hasn't for a few years now. DSE is owned by Anchorage Capital Partners, a private equity group.

      • Correct.

Interestingly, I went to Dick Smith Doncaster, Vic and my purchase was put in a David Jones bag.

I expected it to be the other way around, ie, get a Dick Smith bag when buy electronics at David Jones.

        • DJ's kept its brand name and customer list and got rid of a low-margin business and some shopping bags. Nice!

  • Been at my local Big W. Not one of the items listed in the add

    • +4

      Should be called Little W…

  • Loads of muffin makers and other crap at Doncaster store

    • +2

"Crap" is too general a term, especially for Big W. We are only interested in Bargain Crap, here at Oz B.

  • -2

WOW shares gonna go up after this drop zone event!

  • Springfield Orion had 2.7m and 2.9m umberellas (going FAST) - Magnificent missus picked up a 2.9m (had the drop zone $5 tag on it) - told her to go back for another two if they are still there.

    • Big backyard!

      • At $5 each, might be good to either keep a spare or gift them.

  • Auburn store still has ton of breakfast maker left.

  • Nothing good listed at Top Ryde but they do have a Millennium Falcon for $50 if anyone wants to grab it

    • +2

Picked up the $5 Nerf there. Heaps available but no drop zone tag. It was in Nerf area (next to the new party dept), adjacent to the Drop Zone stuff. Did a scan and it came up as $5

Saw the breakfast makers in the electrical dept, but no drop zone tags either

  • Bugger all at Gateways (as far as advertised items go)

  • I wonder if the umbrellas will break, twist or snap in even a light breeze? I've seen cheap umbrellas do this before.

  • A fair bit still left at Mirrabooka at 10am. The top few advertised items all gone early of course, but still plenty of $5 presents for kids birthday parties, and odd bits for the home.

  • just got back from Carnes Hill (NSW) Big W. Nothing. The knife block was still $20.

    • +1

      Did you try scanning it?

      • yep. came up $20 :(

        • +1

You should have showed them the big w page. They will override the price

    • According to the scanning code of practice, you're entitled to receive the item for free if it scans at a higher price than its advertised/shelf price. Definitely go back.

      • +1

Not sure that Big W is a signatory to that one - you would get it at the advertised price but not for free.

      • The code applies to the major supermarkets, but I don't think it applies to department stores. I know it definitely does NOT apply to smaller stores like newsagents and chemists.

    • Same as the umbrella stands at Karingal (Vic). Spoke to a guy who checked it (the same way that I already had) and scanned at $20. He reckons that it must be a different one. Hard to tell when they don't have a pic of the box online. Still a solid 15kg one that looked pretty much the same to me. Want too fused as I was only buying it because it was (supposed to be) $5!

  • Managed to get 12 wine glasses + an umbrella stand.

Quite a bit left at Menai and Bankstown. Lots of knifeblocks in bankstown, quite a few umbrella stands, that cooking thing and nerf guns.

    • +12

A place like Bankstown I would've expected the knives to be sold like hotcakes =p

      • +8

I don't think they actually "buy" their knives.

  • Don't waste your time at Karrinyup

  • Majority of things are sold out at Macarthur & Narellan stores. I was told by the employees most of their stock went low just a few hours after the store opened.

  • i had two beanbags in my basket but put them back. Would have cost me over $30 each just to fill.

  • Woden ACT had the umbrellas, bean bag chairs, graters, elmo. Didn't see the muffin makers (I wanted one!) or the umbrella bases.

There was also two sizes of umbrella, 2.7 and 2.9 from memory.

    • +1

Canberra airport have plenty of muffin makers and cake pops last time I was there around 12.30pm.

      • Tuggeranong still had a pile of umbrellas there tonight. 4 of the muffin makers and 3 bean bags in the drop zone area left too

        • Went into Woden again today - no umbrellas left but the trampolines were in their place. Beanbags gone, one muffin maker left, a bunch of the graters and knife blocks. All on aisle ends rather than in the drop zone spot.

  • looks like Loganholme QLD store is already had an early bird raid!! got myself the last $5 chopper - not sure what I am gonna do with it..

  • Got myself 5 electric choppers. Great presents.

  • Are there anything worthwhile in Werribee or Altona?

    • Nothing in Werribee

      • Dang, thanks.

        • Nothing much in Altona too. Looked for the lounger bean bag, they had none. Only 1 Hamilton Beach sandwich maker left.

  • Crap went after reading the comments, I did buy some stuff but not much was there. I was in fantasyland thinking I could go tomorrow.

  • Nothing at Watergardens, VIC.

  • +1

Eastland (Ringwood) Big W has the following that i saw:
    LOTS of Comfy Mat
LOTS of Hamilton Beach burger maker
    LOTS NERF gun
Few: lee cooper vneck, guy leech hoodie (Large only), michelle bridges core kit
    -umbrella base
    -7 piece knife set
    -LED torch
    -Hang Files

  • Has anyone been to the QV centre in Melbourne yet? Anything left to purchase? Thank you!

  • +1

Dropped into Spearwood since was nearby (though was couple of hours ago now), had maybe half a dozen electric graters (were on the normal shelf and no markdown ticket) and breakfast makers.

Also not in the drop zone they had heaps of these collapsible drink bottles with snap hook for 20c
