Free Uber Ride @ Newcastle NSW

150

This has just been posted on the Uber blog:

Newcastle has been hit hard these past few days with public transport down and many people needing to get around town. Today, we’re proud to announce Uber is coming to Newcastle to help locals get around.
As of 10am Thursday, Uber users who need to travel can open the app and request an uberX ride to help them get around Newcastle this week – for free.

We will be guided by the recovery coordination team’s updates and heed all official advice about travel in the area from Police and Emergency Services.

How does it work?

Download Uber onto your iPhone, Android or Windows device, and create an account
Position the pin on the map at your current location to request a car and track its arrival in-app
Share your ETA to let the folks at home know when you’ll be arriving

The Finer Details:
Uber’s will be available to request and drop off within the CBD and surrounding areas.

During this time we ask that you only request an Uber if travel is essential, as there are many people needing to move around Newcastle.

Demand will be high and availability limited. If you can’t get a car right away please try again later.

We’re working hard at getting more cars onto the road, so thank you for your patience during this time.

It doesn't say when it expires though. Stay safe Newcastle ozbargainers! Hopefully a free ride here and there might be able to help out a little bit.

Most people would assume the deal was available over all of NSW, not just Newcastle.

    and request an uberX ride

Aren't they the ones without proper insurance?

"UberX is effectively banned in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and Western Australia, and drivers caught accepting passengers risk fines of up to $1,700."

  • Good deal if they have enough cars, otherwise it's just empty PR.
Moo: We appear to have the same thumbnail. I'll change mine as you've been around waaaay longer
