Details
The ASUS DSL-AC68U is a fast ADSL/VDSL modem Wi-Fi router, with combined dual-band data rates of up to 1900 Mbps. On the 5GHz band, 802.11ac gives 1300 Mbps wireless data rates, while Broadcom® TurboQAM™ technology super-charges 2.4 GHz 802.11n performance from 450 Mbps to 600 Mbps with compatible devices. Compatible with ADSL2/2+, ADSL, VDSL2, fiber and cable services.

Three external antennas boost coverage, to give lag-free gaming and streaming almost anywhere around the house. ASUS AiRadar with universal beamforming technology enhances the Wi-Fi stability and improves coverage up to 150%*. Works on 802.11ac clients, but also 802.11a/b/g/n clients.

Powered by dual dedicated CPUs for wired and wireless connections, the DSL-AC68U eliminates the performance drops that plague other routers with busy networks and maximizes both range and stability. So even on the busiest home networks, HD video streaming is always smooth, the latency low for online gaming and VoIP calls, and file downloads are never interrupted.

The easy-to-use ASUSWRT graphical user interface unlocks the power of the DSL-AC68U giving robust control to optimize your network for you. 30-second set-up and easy traffic management means even network newbies can enjoy its sophisticated features, while power users will love its IPv6 support, multiple wireless SSIDs and secure VPN access.

    It's $279 pickup at MSY.

    • Normal price everywhere but this includes free shipping thus logically a deal for anyone that cannot pickup from any computer shop they live near to…but if you were spending $280 for an ADSL connection, I would get a high-end router and modem separately. Example.

      1. $230 NETGEAR R7000 Nighthawk AC1900

      2. Any decent ADSL modem for about $30 - $40.

I can't see any good reason to have separate items (modem + router). I've got enough cables hanging out the back of my computer. Need less clutter, not more! :)

Good product but that's a lot of coin to spend.

    • I've had two of the RT-AC68u.
      Bricked one.
      Other's firmware completely unstable.
Luckily there's alternatives to the official firmware.
But who knows the DSL might be better

    • Think think is a lot of coin? Look up the Draytek 2860Vn+…

I'd argue you'd be better off getting a separate modem and getting the RT-AC68U separately. These modem routers rarely get any love from a custom firmware perspective.

    • Agreed. The RT-AC68U is supported by Merlin, Tomato, and DD-WRT, and you could pair it with a cheap modem (eg. TD-8817) for ~$40 less.

    • wouldn't recommend RT-AC68U unless you use alternative firmware (don't touch the buggy/unstable official firmware from ASUS)

      • Mine works fine with official firmware.

      • Admittedly, I use Merlin, but it's at least based on ASUS, and it's rock solid and pushing everything through OpenVPN.

(Even better once I modified the CFE to non limit my power output to US regulations that don't apply here…)

      • Mines been working fine for a couple of months now (with official)

  • i got one of these from the ebay 20% off sale.
    awesome modem/router

  • My experience has been rather good with this router. Has a torrent client built in, vpn client and sever dedicated, adaptive qqs for pritiizing my phone over other people's devices, gets updated firmware once a month, now come with Trend micro Internet security built into the router.

    Love it

Also used a nighthawk before. This one is better :)

    • Sorta wish I got this because I cant get open vpn working on my nighthawk. But I got my nighthawk for $150 this is more than a $100 more.

      • I got this router AC68u when it first came out and ASUS was doing a cash back. Think it ended been $175

Best modem/router I have ever used. It's just so damn stable and the dnla works flawlessly! I have a Toshiba 1tb pocket drive plugged in with 3 tv's streaming different files at the same time without even a hiccup. Plus the user control over nas folders and all the other extras. The lastest update a couple of days ago added more info & control over connected devices. Love it.

    • Same here. Everything is on this atm in my house 4 iPads, 4 iPhones , 2 MacBooks and 1 Samsung TV. Works perfectly

  • I was excited until I saw the price, the DSL-AC68U has been $279 for a long time.

  • I bought this one and not so happy with it, the ADSL is very unstable, and beware it's not compatible with some ISPs, AMNET is one of them. I ended up using it as router and bought Billion as ADSL modem. As a router it is excellent though. I would recommend RT-AC68U, it's much cheaper

    • yes, only reason i didnt buy it was according to online forums, the dsl modem is not stable compared to others, particularly if you are far from the exchange.

Sorry but free shipping does not make this a 'bargain'.

  • I want the dlink 2890al.

  • Looks like a dalek

  • Been this price for a while

    Wish it would get discounted
