  • What is the normal price though?

  • -3

This is NOT a Rowenta but is a generic Chinese purifier… AND IT DOES A TOP NOTCH JOB!!!

I'd buy one but I'm a tight arse for electricity usage and it'd be overkill in my small room. If I wasn't busy managing a medical condition with a drain on my finances at the moment I wouldn't hesitate.

The replacement filters are plentiful and cheap. If you ever wanted one, this is the one to get.

    • How much are the replacement filters?

      • -1

Very cheap. Not sure why the hell two morons negged me…

Was saying that it's a generic Chinese unit that is highly used and valued in China. So there would be incredible support around for filters and parts.

        • Negged because you said it's not a Rowenta (not that being a genuine Rowenta is all that big a deal).

Where Would you get these 'plentiful & cheap' filters then, as that seems what is holding people up from buying this? Blowed if I can find them.

        • -4

          @wfdTamar:

Thing to learn about China is, brand names do not exist any more. It is Chinese factories with Chinese names slapping Western brand names on goods… I said 'It's not a Rowenta' to indicate that you didn't have to search for 'Rowenta Filter'.

I would reveal where you can get the filters but I'm not willing to reveal my sources, I've been quoted anywhere from $5-20 for replacements. They are a dime a dozen, hint… search for the size of filter you need.

and the award for the most unhelpful comment of the month goes to (drumroll) …..

Get off this site if you're not willing to share information.

    • Where can you get the replacement filters plentifully and cheaply?

    • +1

I cant seem to find any replacement filters for these online. are you able to post some links on where to get them? thanks.

    • here too. I want to buy one but can't find any replacement filters online?

    • +3

If it's not a 'Rowenta' it probably shouldn't be sold as one. How do you know it is a knock-off?

      • +1

Possibly meant the Rowenta brand is a knock off - of Coway.

        http://coway.com/product/product_thum.asp?bcate=3&mcate=

      • It's not a 'knock-off'. It's a re-badge. Plenty of Chinese factories do it for the Westerner's. It means it's still top notch quality under a different label.

        • -1

A rebadge of what? Looks, smells and sound like a knock off. Not great specs says something too.

        • @wfdTamar:

I'd reveal which actual Chinese factory makes this and re-badges it but I don't want to reveal my sources. I'll put it this way, they are actually great specs and it's a high quality purifier.

        • They are average to crappy specs. The deal would be reasonable IF someone (hint) would point to a source of filters. Until then it's a dud buy.

  • -2

Thanks would be better if it has a built in heater.

    • +3

…….. You don't know much about air purifiers do you…

  • +2

Thanks! I ordered one, i also got $10 off for signing up for their newsletter.

Wifey just bought an expensive one just two days ago. Dangit.

  • How much are the air filters?
    Who sells them?

  • How loud is it?

    • +1

38Db at the lowest setting, which makes it one of the noisier ones for overnight use. Other than that and the highish power use this seems as good as any other flat panel filter (Coway, Sharp, Daikin and the like). They all use quite thin and flat filter panels which would have limited life (6-12m months), so you need to check filter availability and cost.

      http://www.rowenta.com.au/Pages/catalog/air-treatment/air-pu…

Cant find the filters on the first few google pages or eBay. My guess is they are no longer made or imported which means the filter supply will dry up which makes this not a bargain.

I need something to clear my neighbours wood smoke from my house. Was considering one of the expensive ones with a big active carbon filter (multiple kgs worth of it) like Inovaair, Blueair etc, but then found this on Amazon which I'm going to put on top of my reverse cycle AC's (worth a shot and cheap).

    • +1

Does seem expensive to run, lack of cheap filters and noisy
Maybe a false economy to buy?

  • Serious question, how can you tell that it's working? Does the air seem different? I have been thinking of getting one for ages but can't tell if it's worthwhile.

    • +1

Airborne dust disappears. E.g.: Turn the lights off, shine a flashlight in the dark and you'll see airborne dust. Then turn on the air-purifier at max setting for an hour, then repeat flashlight test.

      • Cool. Thanks, that's a practical and easy test.

  • Been a while since I've been in the air purifier market, but from memory I thought these were only really worthwhile if they filtered down to a certain 'micron' level, which only the high-end brands like Blue-Air did. Otherwise it's mostly a placebo effect.

Correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm interested in this one. My 2nd hand Blue-Air 203 is smelling funky and a single replacement filter will already set me back $70.

  • +1

I think it's one of those areas (medical or quasi medical) where you either buy cheap, ineffective, quickly outphased junk - or pay through the nose for it. The expensive ones are really silly money.

I've been considering this one, but geez, $1600!?

    • Wife bought the e7 a few days ago and its working well. No more tissues from hayfever around the house.

      • I reckon I'm going to need one with a more serious carbon filter mass than that has (for dealing with smoke), so I was looking at the E20.

  • I'm a little concerned about the power consumption and the noise level. How does this unit compare to others?
For this price is it a "shut up and take my money" scenario?

    • +1

On the max fan setting it is loud and moving a large volume of air, however it is quite quiet on the low setting, it has a timer function also, so I leave it on during the day when out on max on timer.

  • Where to buy the replacement filters?

  • Is this Australian Stock?

  • I bought the Coway AP-1008DH a year ago from Echolife: http://www.echolife.com.au/products/coway-hepa-air-purifier-…

You can check out how it works here: http://www.andatech.com.au/air-purifiers/coway-ap-1008dh

Simply put, it does clean the air. You notice a difference when it's off. No odours in the room. Turn it off for a day and you will notice the odours that used to exist in your room/area and how difficult it is to breathe in comparison.

It uses 4 filters: Pre-filter (when you clean it every 2 weeks or so you will see the amount of dust it picks up, BTW very easy to clean), Multi-care filter, Deodorisation filter and a HEPA filter. Read about how they work with the links provided.

It has a dust and gas sensor which constantly checks the air quality level. The lamp changes colour to reflect the pollution. I don't recommend auto-mode as such, if you have a small room, setting 2 is good, a bigger room, setting 3 and turbo are fine.

It has also got a CDS light sensor so when you sleep, it will go into Sleep Mode when the light diminishes. I recommend putting it on the first setting as it's quiet, you won't hear it.

Honestly, it's worth the investment, it's a bit pricey, but, worth it considering what you're getting, for all the headaches others will have, this would probably be "cheaper".

    What I love about it:

    • Quiet up to setting 2, but 3 and up, it gets louder, but the air it pushes is considerable!
    • Doesn't emit any by-products like ozone (this is the main reason why I got this)
    • Easy to change filters and to clean
    • Filter replacement indicator, it tells you when a filter needs replacing
    • Actually works, removes odours, the air is cleaner, captures dust, removes pollen and smoking smells? Gone! It does the job here
    • You feel the difference when you wake up, no more feeling "stuffy"
    • Has power saving mode, but rather not use it
    • Energy-efficient and has an Energy Star certification. From the product description: consumes between 3.9W of energy in silent mode to approximately 37.8W of energy in Turbo mode.

What I wish it improved on:

    • More cost effective to buy the unit, 4 filters with 3 to change, but it's not too bad, the price rarely if ever goes down
    • It doesn't eliminate dust completely from a big room, I found it reduced a lot of dust, but it's still present in other parts of the room, fair enough though
    • Buying more isn't cost effective, amazing for a small to medium sized rooms, a big room it will eliminate the odours, but not all dust
    • Quieter on settings 3 and up (wishful thinking here)
    • Needs a remote for the lazy kind
    • I wish the one system covered more room, only 300 square feet
    • I considered this one as I have a Coway product and it's good quality and this seems one of the better flat panel purifiers.

How heavy is the carbon filter? I'm guessing under 1 kg? This is the limiting factor for me as the ones I've been looking at have more like 7kg carbon filters.

      • +1

Light, under 1 kg, probably half of that.

  • Decent thread on Whirlpool about purifiers

  • Here's a cheaper and I think better way to do it. Search for Filtrete filters on Amazon. These are designed for US central heating furnaces, but I got some of the carbon laden odor ones (for smoke) and cut them to size for the inlets on my split system AC's. These have far better throughput and circulation than any air purifier. I got enough to do one AC 12 times for $125. They reckon they last 3 months in a furnace so if they last that long thats 4 years worth.
