  • SMS arrived today. Activated it last Saturday. Great deal!

Mine arrived as well, was getting worried. Tried installing codes and had error. Thought perhaps my US account was the reason so as I am a Getflix customer changed the Netflix region to Australia and it worked just fine. Now have 6 months Netflix from my 2 phones.

  • So, what is everyone going to do with their crappy, Optus locked, ZTE phone?

  • Finally got my code via SMS even though registration said was via email
    Woohoo thanks guys !

    My Account
Your gift of A$35.97 has been applied to your account.

  • My local Coles haven't really moved any so I grabbed a couple more.

    • The half price offer is until 12 may.

    • Well the OZB surge has ended. My 2nd lot of SIMs only took a day to get the Netflix codes.

  • Got at least 2 of these phones to offload if anyone is interested pm me. Otherwise they will be donated.

Also, did anyone else get prompt telemarketing after sim activation? I had a txt saying I missed a call from Wyndham timeshare despite opting for an unlisted number.

  • This deal hasn't expired yet, ChishColesolm, ACT still had about 10 of these phones and they are still $14.50.

The Optus Netflix offer runs until 5th July.

  • Is there a limit as to how much credit you can have on Netflix?

  • +1

I used to see "Your $35 credit will be applied to your next bill" in Netflix account, now I'm getting:
"Sorry, this doesn't look right. Please refresh the page to see all your information."

    • +1

      Yes I have that too.

      • See my comment on page 2

  • Both codes that I received are invalid. Is anyone experiencing this issue?

  • Merged from Optus Pre-Paid ZTE F286 Mobile with $10 SIM + FREE 3 Month Netflix (Worth $36) All for $14.50 @ Coles

    Its back again this week.

    Another great deal @ coles

Optus Pre-Paid ZTE F286 Mobile + Free 3 months Netflix all for $14.50

Why is this a bargain? Because for $14.50 your basically getting

    • 3 months of Netflix (Worth ~ $36)
    • $10 Optus prepaid sim which can be used for 5 X $2 days getting you unlimited calls/txt and 500mb 4G Broadband
    • a crappy spare phone for yourself or the kids

    Thanks to theearth @ buckscoop

    • How bad is this ZTE286 ?

      • +3

        does it really matter.

        you basically getting

        • 3 months of Netflix (Worth ~ $36)
        • $10 Optus prepaid sim which can be used for 5 X $2 days getting you unlimited calls/txt and 500mb 4G Broadband
        • a crappy spare phone for yourself or the kids
      • I've got 6 of them… I would rate it as useable for calls/text.. not much else.

        • The phone is embedded with crappy MTK processor.

I am quite in shock that ZTE has these kind of marketing strategy.

PS: I bought one myself and will use it as a backup phone. This phone can record the phone call so it's useful for someone at least.

      • +2

It is awesome. Direct physical number pad, press down for last calls, polyphonic ring tones, predictive txt input, wall paper, mp3 player, picture viewer FM radio (!), really light, and 300,000PX camera. The best thing is that, as I demonstrated to my workmates, when I threw it across the room it not only survived there wasn't even a scratch on it (though I have to admit, the office floor is carpeted). You cannot claim that with most phones.

    • You can get one month of Netflix free here - https://www.netflix.com/getstarted?locale=en-AU

Can I transfer this $10 credit to another Optus phone?

(Does Optus mobile network have something similar to Telstra's CreditMe2U?)

    • Could you purchase 4 of these phones and redeem a year's worth of Netflix on a single account?

      • +1

Can I use more than one Netflix voucher per Netflix account?
Yes! You can use multiple Optus Netflix vouchers on the same Netflix account; they do not override each other.

        • Thanks EC! Might go buy a few on Wednesday :D

    • Still haven't received my email from the last one :(

      • mine came as a text on the phone

        • Same here, for both my phones.

    • Guys, where does it actually say on the package that it comes with $10 credits? I am only getting $3 credits showing on my account when I activated my prepaid sim

  • The phone radio, do we have to use headset or can we listen to radio over Bluetooth set?

    • gotta have headset plugged in

  • -1

The only problem is that my local Coles doesn't have any stock.

  • I've bought 2 and applied the credit to my netflix account. Does anyone know if there is a way to view how much credit remains on the netflix account? Can't find anything. Cheers

    • +1

You can access it via Your Account page where in the Membership and Billing section should show something like this:

Your $xx.xx credit will be applied to your next bill.

      https://www.netflix.com/YourAccount

I am up to $125.86 USD so far :)

      • +2

I can't find that on my AU account, I'll have another look tonight.

Has anyone's first month free expired yet ?
Maybe that's causing their system a headache with the account display.

  • I've bought 4 phones and have only received two of the netflix codes out of the 4. I wonder how long it'll take for the other two to come through.

Just strange, as I activated all of them at the same time.

Also I got two missed calls from a random number which I'm not able to call back?

  • Activated on 24th and no codes yet.

  • I've received the last two codes! So 4 codes in total :)

  • +1

All of mine came via SMS so put the SIM in the phone.
If you got more than one phone just wait for the first SMS to arrive then cycle each SIM through that phone. No need to open the other boxes.

    • How long before the Netflix code arrived by SMS? 30 minutes now and got 2 SMS regarding activation of prepaid service only

      • Should be in the next few….
        ………………………………days or even weeks.
        its not instant

      • My first batch took 6 days, the second just 1 day.

        • Got the code yesterday and applied to the trial account. The Netflix Aus catalog is underwhelming, but free 4 months of commercial free TV ain't bad. Cheers OP!

  • Just bought 2 more. :)

  • Does anyone know by chance whether if you cancel your account the credit remains there? Because you can reactivate within a particular amount of time. Netflix took away the option of suspending the account temporarily.

    • i accidentally activated a plan and the free three months at the same time and Netflix told me if I cancel (the paid subscription) it cancels everything. They've also told me I shouldn't get charged again until all my free months plus the month I paid are up (so in four months).

  • If I cancel my Netflix subscription now and activate it again after I receive the code, should be OK right?

My subscription expire today but still waiting for the code.

  • Thanks OP. I bought two phones yesterday. Both had broadband sims. I activated both. Less than 24 hours later I received both Netflix codes via SMS on each handset. $35.97 & $35.97 Netflix credit redeemed.

    • You're welcome!

P.S - Weren't you on Whirlpool? Remember seeing your name everywhere there!

      • Ha yep. I live at Whirlpool. I remember you too. Cheers mate.

  • How can I redeem the code after cancelled? I have to reactivate it first? Will it charge my account before I can redeem?

  • Anyone in sydney want to sell the phone? White is ok. Preferable meet in cbd. Just need mp3 player.
    Pm me

  • thanks, just picked up 3.

  • I know that people with the US Netflix account can see their credit under Billing Activity but has anyone been able to check how much credit they have from the voucher on their AU Netflix account?

    Anyone???

  • Where are these phones located? are they near the checkouts?

    • Usually behind the Service Desk (where they also hold cigs).

      • Ah ok, cheers for that. Will pop into my local Coles tomorrow and see if they have any.

    • My local Coles had them in their own cardboard stand at the self-service checkouts.

  • How much credits is the included sim meant to come with? The other Officeworks thread suggested it should come with $10 credits but I can't find anywhere to suggest that this is the case. I activated my prepaid sim last night and selected "My Prepaid Daily" as my plan and the online account says it comes with $3 credits?

    • I didn't think any credit was included.

  • I offloaded mine on FB for $5 a pop. Everyone wins.

    • May be I am too old how to do that?

      • Just advertise them on Facebook.

  • Anyone looking to get the phone unlocked. I messaged this guy on FB https://www.facebook.com/mobunlockingmaster with my IMEI. He replied back in about 24 hrs with the unlock code and asked for 2USD paid into his PayPal account. Unlock code worked great, now using my voda sim in there.

  • I've only just cottoned on to this deal. Didn't think it would work with US account but they do.
Have picked one up at my closest Coles. Got a few more Coles in the area so will go for a drive tomorrow and see how many more I can pick up.

    • You can stack more on US account. So far I have activated and applied 8 codes on my US account. 2 years worth. I bought another 3 phones today at another Coles. They are now harder to come by.

      • Awesome. I picked up 5 more phones. I still haven't received the code from my first phone. Only 48 hours but people below say they are getting it within 24hrs.

  • I bought 4 units from Coles and activated all 4 in sequence yesterday morning.
By 2:30pm the same day (less than 12 hours), I have got links to the Netflix voucher code via SMS except for one.
I am still waiting for optus Netflix voucher link from the 3rd sim card from the sequence.
I don't think this is automated as the sms to the voucher link were worded differently.

    • can you use two (or more) vouchers at the same time to get more free Netflix time? eg. 6mths/9mths free?

    • Got the last code yesterday. So all good with 4 x 3 months access to Netflix.
I just went and got another 4 phones and will activate the sims tonight.

  • can one activate the sim without putting any credit on it?

    • +1

      yes

  • Still waiting for my netflix sms for the 2nd phone which was activated on 21/4, maybe I should give optus a call.

  • Activated 4 sim cards, received all 4 Netflix codes via SMS in around 24 hours.

  • +1

Picked up another 3 of these phones from another Coles. So far I have done 8 phones and my Netflix credits are now 2 years worth.

  • this should work by just buying a SIM starter pack for any extra activations hey???
eg. already have phone to put new SIM in

    • No, you need to purchase a phone.

  • Does anyone know how I enter the unlock code? I have an NCK code and an unlock pin code. When I turn on the phone I get a warning message that says "Network Locked. Please contact Optus for the unlock code." I can't get off that screen and I have tried entering both codes from that screen and nothing happens. The only option is "Emergency calls" - but it then starts dialing emergency.

    • Just to say the guy sent me 2 messages - and the second one had the instructions. He must have forgotten them on the first one.

1 - Switch ON your Phone WITHOUT SIM Card,
2 - Then dial : 9838284# or ###825*09#, in your dial pad or Press Unlock.
3 - Enter OUR PROVIDED NCK CODE / Network Password and press OK.

I used this guy, who was recommended on another zte 286 thread on Ozbargain. Just over $4 and replied within a few hours (ebay message).

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221632938584?euid=fe417edab50247a…

  • I just added another Netflix coupon.
Under Billing Details it said I had pending discounts so I clicked on that and got the following,

    "Your Pending Discounts
    Special offer for one month
    Special offer for one month
    Special offer for one month
    Special offer for one month
    Special offer for one month
    Special offer for one month
These will be applied after current gifts or discounts are fully used up."

Other than missing one of the redemptions I applied the 'one month' thing seems a little odd.

Are others seeing the same thing ?

    Thanks

    • that is not showing up in my billing details…but I have, so far, only submitted one coupon…
mine is just saying 'you will not be charged this month' …
I will see what happens when I apply extra codes..and let you know :)

      • all four of my codes have been received and applied with no problems…yayyyy!!!!
        now…who wants a cheap phone? haha :)

    • Yep. I'm seeing similar. "Special offer for one month" x3. I have activated 4 in total so far. Each time it said it had added $35.95 to the account. My account page has a warning banner across the top saying "Sorry, this doesn't look right. Please refresh the page to see all your information." Give them a call on 1800 071 578 - or do a live chat with them. I haven't called them for this issue but did call them about the warning and to confirm the credits on my account after the first activation. They confirmed all was ok - and that there was a system issue stopping it displaying correctly on my account page. Odd that they have a system issue like that though (and that it still isn't fixed about 2 weeks on).

      • +1

I did a live chat with them. All good. You can email the transcript to yourself after to keep as confirmation if there are issues later - which I doubt there will be.

Ah ok, looking at the account I show there are three 3 month discounts. Are those what you're referring to?

        13 minutes agoYou
Yes. I am referring to those 3 x 3 month discounts. Thanks. I can't see that on my account page. Do you know when it will display correctly on my account page and I'll be able to see that myself ?

        10 minutes agoNetflix Amy
I do see that banner on my end as well, it's just because you're on those discounts so there isn't billing information which is why that banner is there. If you click on "Billing Details" it will say you have pending discounts.

        9 minutes agoYou
Hi. Yes it does say I have pending discounts. But if I click on "Pending discounts" it says "Your Pending Discounts - Special offer for one month Special offer for one month Special offer for one month These will be applied after current gifts or discounts are fully used up." ie It says 1 month x3, not 3 months x 3.

        5 minutes agoNetflix Amy
The way it shows up in "Your Account" is those "Special Offer for one month" is for the first 3 month discount. When that one ends, it will show that way for the second 3 month discount, same with the third one.

        3 minutes agoYou
OK. Thanks. Its annoying it doesn't display properly to me - and that you and I have to spend time confirming the situation. However, the main thing for me is you have confirmed it is correct, so I'm happy about that. Thanks.

        2 minutes agoNetflix Amy
I can see the same thing as you do on your account. Our system on your end only shows one discount at a time, but I do show on the back end that all discounts will be applied. I totally understand how that can be annoying not being able to to see all 3 at the same time. I would love to send feedback to my team on that.

        45 seconds agoYou
That would be good. Thanks for your help. I need to go now.

Still waiting on codes for some phones activated earlier this week, my last lot took a week, looks like these will too :)

    • I've activated 8 codes since 4 May. Most took 1 or 2 days. One took about 5 days. I recommend putting each sim in a phone on a daily basis and allowing 2 or 3 minutes to see if sms's come through.

  • Got code on Friday same day as sim activated. Claimed voucher, and have September to redeem by.

Can anyone say if current netflix account can be put temporarily on hold (to allow 1 subsequent trial to be used, per house). canceling = frozen $36 until reactivated?

    • Nope, Netflix removed the option of temporary holds. Instead they say you can cancel your account and reactivate it later. But other ozbargainers have told me that means your credit disappears

  • +3

I activated my discount ages ago - but I received an email from Optus today with the subject "tell us how you're going".

    With this message:

Just checking in to see how things are going with your Optus service. We’ve noticed that you haven’t taken up your Optus-Netflix offer yet. We’re keen to know why so we can help improve things in the future.
We’ve got a little survey that we’d love you to tackle and it should take less than 5 minutes. It’s anonymous, so feel free to provide your real and honest feedback.

I tried activating the original code again (just hoping) but the Netflix site says it's invalid or already used (which I was expecting).

Perhaps Netflix haven't sent Optus details of the signups using the optus codes.

    • Just checking - are you trying to redeem the code sent by SMS on the Netflix website? You need to redeem this code on the Optus website first, then you are given the Netflix code.

      • I've already redeemed the code. It's just that Optus sent me an email saying that they thought I hadn't, which seemed a little strange.

        • Ah sorry, I misunderstood your comment. Funnily enough I received one of these emails not long after replying, for a code that has also already been redeemed - strange indeed!

  • As a pro sumer, I tend to err on the side of a network#neutrality, anyway ..i am not too concerned. [And too early to fill out any feedback]

My pattern, has been, and is to go:- free trial in 4/15- (never got used, too busy); 5/15-inadvertently paid (first use enjoyable); 6/15-wishfully hope to re-register anew by 2nd householder approval; 6-9/15-possibly finish risidual crappy presto subn, subsidised; 7-12/15-might as well overlap subsidised, optusnetflix to see out the year.

Until 2016, and apart from an inadvertent May/15 mess up — I do not see my pattern being of real significance. I've yet to endeavour with a VPNned N.f-signup Brazil, and while i am not just motivated about 'net neutrality but lowest Denominator parity too.

  • 1 month, and still haven't received codes…..

    • Same with me… I can confirm that my new sim card works as optus allows me to sign up for yes ticket

    • Way too long. Call them.
