  • I've activated a couple of phones on the 16th, had no codes through via email - just put a SIM into one of the phones, it's had an SMS confirming that it's activated but still have not had a Netflix coupon. Any idea how long they're taking?

  • Ok just checked all my SIMS (4).

2 of them got an SMS with the code, 2 haven't… patience i guess.

    • Just checked mine, I've had the same - 2 sims got the code, 2 have not got the code!

They must be running a strange system there!

  • +4

I redeemed my code, but it's not showing in Billing Details.
Also my account page now displays this message:
"Sorry, this doesn't look right. Please refresh the page to see all your information"
Tried to logout/login, different browsers, nothing helps.
And when I'm trying to redeem the code again, it tells me that it has already been used…

    • +1

Same here. When I activated the code it said $35.97 was added to my account, but I can't find that value anywhere in billing details. I am also getting that error message.

      • Are you using getflix or similar service?
I was connected to US netflix when I was redeeming my code, maybe that's why it happened.

        • Nah I wasn't but I am currently on the aus 1 month trial.

      • +1

Had a chat with their support. They assured me that everything is good:
"I see that the voucher has been successfully applied.
Unfortunately, this doesn't show at your end. We're working on that.
At any rate, your card won't be charged again until August 4."

I also asked about that error message, here is what they replied:
"It means that the voucher is a new thing that is surprising the system right now. It's not recognizing the credit that was applied. Nothing to worry about. That's part of the issue we're working on at our end."

        • That's good to hear thanks for the update mate.

      • same issue, but it also says this in billing details:
You are currently in a special program and will not be charged.

(i'm still in my one month trial period, wonder if it will show up once that ends?

the optus activation page shown nothing, too many activation request from ozbargainetflixers?

    • +1

Got the same problem, nothing showing on it.

      • +1

Me too, so angry right now since trying to activate yesterday and giving me error.

        • +1

Call them and they'll fix it up for you :)

    • page shown today. activated the phone. now wait for the code.

      • got my code. put in netflix and credit added. done.

  • +1

Is the Optus activate sim page working for anyone?

I've tried 3 different browsers but just get an empty white space beneath the banners.

    • +1

I've just opened it up now, and it's come up fine for me.

      • Still blank for me. Just got the menu up the top, but no content.

        • +1

yep header, footer but no content.

        • @Elijha:

How can you activate it then

  • So my activation never happened (tried thursday night), even though I got an email and an assigned number. Called Optus and the prepaid support person told me that 'they gave me a broadband device' sim and not a mobile phone sim - she was trying to blame the shop and didn't seem to get it all came in one box. She basically gave me two choices go out and buy a proper prepaid sim or 'active' this broadband sim that she said will only work as a phone for 24 hours then it will detect is "data only" and stop working. Me and a friend got one each from the same store we have both opened them and they both have done the same thing .. should I just take it back for a refund - assuming a replacement will result in the same thing? When she activated it she only asked for an address/name not email or phone number .. so I don't think I'll be getting a Netflicks code either… how stupid.

    • Why would Optus moble phone come with a data only SIM? That's so retarded.

    • My Coles didn't have any replacements and just gave me another sim, Coles aren't impressed as they say they can't return them as Optus won't accept them even though it's their fault. I'm hanging onto everything in case my netflix code doesn't come through. My phone was white if that makes a difference. I kept telling the customer service person when I phoned that I wasn't "given" the wrong sim and that it came in the box.

      • My phone is white with a red border.

I had to call Optus to activate and never was asked for a phone number or email address, however I was told that I would receive it as an SMS to my new number in a few days. Others have reported getting theirs sent to their mobile broadband SMS inbox.

  • +1

Sounding more and more like they've got some major problems with either their activations or their sims… I'm on the phone with them now about the two that I have not received codes for, and they've checked with me four times so far that the sim is in fact a sim card that I receieved in with a phone package, and was not a separate sim on its own…

Now the support girl is saying that "according to the optus website it says you will receive an SMS", yes, I know that, I have not got the SMS, that's why I'm calling… she has said they've got nothing in their systems as to how to deal with any issues if people have not received their codes. Great. Looks like this will be a fun one.

    • I never got my activation SMS, let's see how this goes.

      • +1

I got an SMS saying then phone was now active but that's it so far. If after the 14 days that they've got to send it and no code arrives then I'll call.

  • Tried to take the phone back to coles yesterday that wouldn't activate as a mobile only broadband and they wouldn't accept it told me to contact optus which I had already tried but was on hold for 30 minutes so gave up.

    • Optus will tell you to take it back to Coles.

  • Still can't activate mine - this is way more trouble than it's worth just to get Netflix a bit cheaper.

I got the white phone - white with silver text on the buttons which makes reading them virtually impossible. Damn thing belongs in landfill anyway.

I suppose the included USB charger and cable slightly makes up it.

  • This is disappointing. Was thinking of signing up Optus cable broadband, but this level of incompetence makes me doubt quality of Optus' service.

  • Do you need the actual phone to get the Netflix code or any phone?

    • See: How Do I Get Netflix

…a bonus 3 month Netflix subscription when you purchase a prepaid mobile phone and activate the included SIM.

So, you don't need to get this phone - but for $14.50 it's probably the cheapest option.

      • Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant, do I need to insert the optus sim card into the phone that came with it?

        • Maybe, seems some in this thread are saying they are getting emails, while some are getting an SMS to their new Optus number

        • No. My code came by SMS, but I activated the Optus SIM and then would insert it into my main Android phone every night to check for SMS messages with the netflix code. The code came after 1.5 days. I have yet to turn the cheapie phone itself on, or even to unbox it, so no, you do not need to insert the SIM into the phone that it came with, but you do need to insert it into a phone of some type, to get the code. Hope that helps!

  • Anyone that got the phone with the wrong sim and activated it, can you advise if/when you get your Netflix code. I've left the wrong sim in the phone as I have no other way of receiving the code.

    • How do we know if we've activated the wrong type of SIM ?

      • You can't make or receive calls and they tell you when you ring up that it's a broadband sim. Also there's no way in telling until you go to activate it. Either way it's the wrong sim and you have to get it replaced.

        • I was able to activate them without issue. Does that mean they're the correct SIM ?

    • I got a phone with a broadband sim. Activated it last thursday and just got an email with the code this afternoon. Seems like i dont need to deal with Customer Service after all! :D

      • Thanks, I don't think I submitted an email address, I can't remember to be honest and I've received no emails so will wait to see if I get a sms in the next few days. Good to know some people are getting them who had wrong sims,

  • I can't even get the website to load to activate it. Tried Safari, Firefox and iPhone.

    • Same here - The top and bottom of the site load, but white space in the middle… (in Chrome, Firefox, IE, Chrome(mobile)…).

Will try again tomorrow, I guess.

      • Yep that's what I got too, must be the site

  • I couldn't activate it through my iPad when I bought the phone. Went to the optus shop nearby and they activated it for me. Didn't ask for my email. I also opted for no internet access on the phone. I hope to receive the Netflix code through SMS soon….

  • I couldn't activate online, and I tried activating over the phone, but the robot voice kept going back over the same ground, so couldn't activate over the phone, finally used live chat online and they activated, but they never asked for my email. and i got no sms saying I was active. but the phone was active. No codes yet, and optus seem to want to blame coles, and looks like i won't be getting my netflix code. I'll wait 12 more days then if no code, im going to the ombudsman.

  • I call them today and it got activated after 15 mins. Received 3 sms about activation and plan. Asked my name, address, contact and email. Just waiting to see when they are giving me code.

Funny thing she asked me why not activate it online lol
Even they don't know their page is full of error

  • +4

Looks like https://www.optus.com.au/activate is working again guys :)

    • Yes my phone is working now. No code yet though.

      • Working now as well, So will they send the code via email or sms?
I don't really want to open the phone up if they are sending it my email.
Just incase can sms still get delivered even your phone is off and turn it on later?

        • Just incase can sms still get delivered even your phone is off and turn it on later?

          Yes.

    • Thanks I did mine last night. Haven't put the sim in a phone yet to check for an SMS.

  • So who else got a phone with an 'Optus Prepaid Mobile Broadband' sim? I don't really care about the phones but it must suck for legit customers.
Has anyone in this situation received codes, and if so, how?

    • I don't know if I received Broadband SIMs or not with my phones but they all activated fine. I am still yet to receive any Netflix codes.

    • Me and a few others if you read earlier pages in this thread. Waiting in code to arrive still. Will wait 14 days before I call/email/ask them on Facebook.

  • 3 days after purchasing 4 phones and activating over the phone due to the online activation failing:
    * 1 has received an SMS saying that it has been activated, however all are appearing active (able to make calls)…
    * Another has an SMS asking how my recent experience with Optus was, the strange part is however is that the SMS was send to some random name?
    * No Netflix codes at all :(

    • I have 2 phones, both online activations failed so also called up. One sms sent to confirm phone now activated but other phone also works. No Netflix codes either.

      • Glad to know I'm not the only one haha.
        When did you activate?

      • Same boat

  • Received my netflix code by sms today. YAYYY!!!
$35 credit applied to my netflix account.

    • when did you activate your phone?

  • I activated my SIM at 5:40pm AEST yesterday and just received the SMS with a link to get the Netflix code.

  • Well I just got excited about a new message on my 1st ZTE thinking it was the code as others have just reported getting it. But after having activated the phone on 16 April, I just get a message now saying "Thank you for joining Optus Prepaid…" Grr

    • Ok just came thought now. Says to redeem by 19 May, a bit longer than the 2 weeks mentioned in the T&Cs

  • Ok just got my last 2 codes via SMS in the last hour.

So 4 out of 4 codes received now. All via SMS.

Originally activated on 16/04 - approx 8 PM

    • Happy… I just went and purchased 2 more, last ones my local store had.

I be a bulk listing a lot of 5 sealed ZTE 286 phones (locked to Optus) on ebay soonly.

    • Mine is saying invalid Netflix code. How was yours activated?

      • All activated Online.

My advice is sit on it and wait 24-48hrs.

I just signed up for Optus NBN and got a 6 month code that also gave that error, i didn't bother chasing it up and it worked like 24hrs later.

I think it is just a delay with Optus getting their system to match the codes they send out.

In saying that double check for typo's too :)

        • The Netflix guy said the code only work if your account is AUS. So I will to cancel and create an AUS one. Hopefully I get another free month (free trial).

        • @Prav:

I have allied 6 different codes to my US registered Netflix account.

  • Just had a win contacted optus about my problems activating my 2nd prepaid phone and the woman gave me $30 of credit on my first phone and told me to take the problem sim back to coles. My netflix code for the first phone arrived so I have effectively received 6 months of netflix and 2 prepaid phones for nothing:)

  • +3

These phones will be available at this price until May 12th.
    No hurry.

    • Good to know, thought it as a weekly special

  • Still no Netflix code for me, activated on the 17th, sigh.

  • Got my SMS and netflix code no problems!

Has anyone tried out SD - is it watchable or worth paying for HD?

  • Got my Netflix code via SMS for 2 phones that I activated a few days ago. They never sent me email. I have redeemed both tokens. Question is, can anyone see how much credit is available to the Netflix account?

    • Yeah this is a mystery. I added in a code, a green message popped up $thirty something was added, but I cannot see where my balance is after the fact.

      • Just checked my US Netflix account again (after a few minutes), now it says:

Your $53.94 credit will be applied to your next bill.

Looks like they are stackable! 6 months of $8.99USD plan for free! Excellent!

Looks like I need to get a few more of those phones :)

        • +1

I'll assume the Optus codes are valid for non Australia accounts.

  • Still no codes after 5 days.

I just tried calling 1 of the 4 I bought and it rings so seems I got the correct SIMs with mine.

    • It can take up to 14 days, that's why I'm not following up just yet.

      • Yeah, I posted the same info the other day so haven't bothered chasing it up yet.

  • Can anyone confirm that these handsets are actually network locked?

    • +1

Yes they are. I tried inserting a Telstra sim and it would not work and said it was locked

    • My phone works with TPG sim, as TPG uses Optus network.
I guess sims from other Optus resellers should work as well - Amaysim, Dodo etc. Even Virgin maybe?

      • My TPG sim works on this phone as well and still on TPG's 1 dollar a month plan they don't offer any more.
Still haven't got my netflix code yet so haven't changed over to TPG permanently yet..

        • just got the codes now

  • I managed to buy one today at the price of $14.50 (even tho the deal is expired)! now to read all your comments to make sure i'm all ok to activate!

  • A quick question. I've bought the phone 2 days ago and activated via phone. I have not used the phone but when I tried to call another number using it, it says no more credit. However, I've managed to call and SMS my phone from another mobile phone. Do I need to have credit in the phone to get the Netflix credit?

    • No, you don't need credit to receive SMS with Netflix code

  • Just received my netflix codes for phones activated on 16th and 17th. Guess it just took some time to process, probably because of the huge amount of activations :)

  • Mine arrived today too from activation on the 17th.

I put each of my SIMs through the one phone I opened and they all popped up.

I've tried one 'token' code so far and Netflix is saying it's invalid.
Am I supposed to be typing it directly in the Netflix Gift and Offers section ?

    • "Once you receive your Netflix bonus offer from us, visit the Optus voucher claim page using the link provided to get your voucher code and then follow the link to www.netflix.com/specialoffer to create your Netflix account and redeem your voucher."

      • All sorted. I had to manual type the link into a browser.

        Thanks

  • Got my 4 codes via SMS today!

  • Just got an SMS from Optus - but it just turned out to be an survey.

  • Just got a email for this Optus E5251 mobile broadband device with my Netflix Voucher, no SMS hassle. Super Happy :) Activated about a week ago FYI. For my phone got the SMS the next day! Now 3 + 3 = 6 months of netflix to use!
