I have a similar bills reminder app on my phone, which sadly is no longer available.

I used to use google calendar for bills, but the app is superior in a number of ways:

      • you enter the actual date when the bill is due, and the app will remind you on each of the five days before the bill is due - unless you mark the bill as "paid". Google calendar will only remind you once, unless you set multiple alerts, which is tedious.

      • if you do set multiple alerts through Google calendar, it will remind you at each of those times, even though you may have already paid the bill! With the app, once you mark the bill as "paid", there will be no more notifications.

      • If you don't mark a bill as "paid", it will stay at the top of your bills list, and will be marked "overdue". You will continue to get notifications.

      • the app does the calculations for five days ahead. Google calendar has to be calculated manually, and is a pain around month end. You have a bill that falls due on the 2nd of each month? Then what date do you set Google calendar to, as there can be 28, 29, 30 or 31 days in a month?

      • if the app is good, accidentally marking a bill as paid can be undone. Try getting a calendar notification back after you have accidentally dismissed it.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried the linked app, it may not have all of the abilities that my app does.

I do recommend getting the app from somewhere other than Amazon - it is annoying that you can't use Amazon apps without a data connection. You'll be amazed at how quickly you'll discover places with no data coverage. And you'll be annoyed when you go overseas on holidays, and don't want to use roaming data at exorbitant rates, but you are forced to because you need some information from an app.

Does the reminder notice play "I've got Bills.. I got to paaaay!"?

  • Sorry but I am having trouble getting the Australian Amazon App Store on my phone. I go to amazon.com.au, follow all the instructions exactly, but after installation the Appstore always takes me to the US store where Bills Reminder shows $3.99. Obviously I'm doing something wrong because I can see the free one on my PC, but cannot get it on my phone. Any help appreciated for my dumb moment.

  • While this might be helpful, this will probably give me more stresses than happiness… skipped!
