  • Hi just wondering if it's made in Japan, it states it uses Japanese materials but this sorta stuff is important to the missus, cheers.

If it wasn't made it china, it would be a fake

      • Thanks EC :)

      • Made in China
        Designed in Australia :-)

    • Made in China from Japanese stainless steel produced from Australian iron ore

I own this set - but I only rate the 17cm Santoku and the 9cm paring knife as world class. The other knives in the set are quite ordinary, in my opinion…

  • +3

but if it comes with the diamond fingers knife sharpener, that kinda sweetens the deal - as my one didn't come with it, and I find the knife sharpener works well - just a couple of swipes keeps everything sharp

  • +1

Anyone else used these knives before? How do they stack up against Global?

    • +2

I didn't have this set, but our set had a knife develop a hair line crack through it.

We didn't cut anything hard like pumkin with it. We returned it to the shop, and got a full refund. It's a common issue I've been told.

We now have a Global synergy set, happy with it. No cracks after 2 years, but you do need to get the sharpener to keep them cutting well.

  • I got one for free, still only used it a few times. Rate 5/10

    • +1

what didn't you like about it to only rate it a 5/10?

      • +4

        Half of it ?

      • Comfort was really low and sharpness. Very dull after light use. i ended up gifting them

  • +3

I am a chef by trade, these knives are not world class. Wusthof, mundial, shun, henckels and even victorinox are better quality, I currently use a Sakai knife but these are a bit overkill for home use. I know this from experience as I won 2 sets of these while an apprentice( I ended up gifting these sets ). They look great but have no balance and are way too heavy. IMHO you are better off buying one quaility 20/25 cm chefs knive than a set of these.

    • +1

I am not a chef by trade. I had 2 of these knives and gave them away for the same reasons given - badly balanced and too heavy.

As above, better to put your money towards a good chefs knife, a good smaller knife and a cheap bread knife.

  • I have a set of Furi knives - not this set - and they have been great for many years now.
They came razor sharp and held an edge well.
They really need a good sharpen now but still good knives for the money IMHO

  • a stitch in time would save these.

  • I have a different set of Furi knifes, got them too cheap to care about. They're ok and use them as my hack around set and let mum use them when she visits. They stay sharp and I have the Diamond Fingers too but I don't rate them compared to my 25yo Mundial set even though they were the "cheap" ones when I bought them. My diamond fingers is the 30° angle and I actually use that on my mundial knifes, works great.

  • I have owned this set for a few years now. I throw them on the diamond sharpener every few months and they hold a good edge. I've used Global knives before and whilst Global knives are better they also chip. These knives are great value for money and I would recommend them.
