What does the entry fee pay for?
In return for your entry fee into the City2Surf, you will receive:
An event as large as the City2Surf (covering a distance of 14km and attracting more than 85,000 people), is very expensive to organise and execute each year. Without the support of its partners and over 3,000 volunteers it would not be possible to run such a large community event.
Representatives from various community organisations all over Sydney such as Rotary and Lions Clubs, Scouts and Girl Guides, various sporting groups, volunteer bush fire brigades, State Emergency Services, St John Ambulance and school groups help out on the day. Each of these organisations receives a per volunteer donation in appreciation for their assistance.
@waterlogged turnip: So, not much of value. I'll bet they didn't even pay the public transport costs either (given it for free).
Well you can run the 14km without paying - just won't get an official finish time.
You don't run 14k. There are so many people it takes about 2km until you get clear road and then when you get to Bondi it's a traffic jam again. Good fun though.
I only clicked the thread because I couldn't believe they charge $65! Go the day after and donate to a charity instead!
And I'm a runner who has done these sorts of things..
That just brings the price back to what it's been for the past half year!
Haha I literally swore on Friday night/Saturday morning when I noticed it was 12:03am and I hadn't registered yet. Such is life for a procrastinating uni student. :P
Held out though since last year there were a few discount codes floating around. Glad to know they've finally activated 'em. :) Time to get my registration in before I fail to again.
Come on, it is so much fun! There are heaps of crazy people out there, haha.
Well worth the entry fee I guess ( I'm lucky, it's almost free for me through my company: Need to donate $40 to charity, that's it )
It doesn't count as a donation in your tax return. And you could go there and do the run without official time. Anyway, it's a good discount for those planning to pay.
You /could/, but you might get arrested or killed running through the tunnel on William Street.
I didn't thought about those risks. I guess a terrorist would pay the $65 as a disguise (probably the shooter won't contemplate that possibility)
I don't get why anyone pays $65 to run 14km…. but anyway.
