Don't go with locked version because it is difficult or expensive to get it unlocked. I have two phones bought from Woolies which are locked to Telstra and can't find anyone to unlock it.

We're going to try and grab one to use as an MP3 player more than anything. Should I ever want to use it, then I'm on Telstra so the phone being locked isn't really a concern.

Depends if you want Windows phone or Android. I think the Y550 has better screen and 4g over the 530.

I went with the Y550 as an upgrade for my son for his 3G phone, the Y550 has 4G. Not sure why they make non 4 G phones anymore, the cost is in the manufacturing not the chip used. 3G is getting too congested for data use in some places, and most phone plans now give you data.
