  • Cheapest ever

But they've been AU$99 several times here?
Edit: oh wait, this is the 'backup' model. Sorry my bad.

  • +3

    Fits PS4. Nice.

    • PS3 too?

      • Yes…same kind of HDD (they're just generic laptop hard drives).

        • I more meant if the drive height requirement was identical for both consoles.

        • @Lukian:

9.5mm height drive. Will fit in both.

        • @futaris:

          It won't format properly.

      • No they don't work on the ps3. I tried and failed. Apparently 1.5tb is the max.

    $112.413 AUD
Been close before but this may be the cheapest depending on actual exchange rate.

  • +3

    Around $120 AUD

This is taking into account Amazon's (another others too) inflated conversion rates

    • +1

      Pay in USD with 28°

  • +2

DSE Ebay has these for $149 C&C - with the 20% off code, I'd be looking at that instead.

EDIT: I'm assuming here that 'Backup Plus' and 'Backup Plus Slim' are the same thing - maybe the slim is better?

    • +2

      Slim is always better.

      • +13

        That's not what she said

    • backup plus I bought from good guys on eBay store and it came down to $114 after discount (20%)

It is quite slim… can't see it having a backup plus slim thats even slimmer.

  • How come mine comes $116?

  • I'm interested in installing this HD in my ps4. How bad is the failure rate with these? If i just save all my data to the cloud anyway should I stress about losing data.

    • No problem with mine. Purchased 2 back on 1st July 2014 from previous eBay sale. Removed one drive and installed into 360 console. The other used on original Wii console Both still working after 9 months use.

The red slim from TTG and 20% promo for $114.40 pickup.
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Seagate-2505821-2TB-Backup-Plus-S…

  • Wouldn't this be a better deal? 119 posted (after 20% discount) with local warranty?

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/111530926090?limghlpsr=true&…

Edit: Nevermind, someone already provided link.

  • Sorry to rain on your parade mate, but I purchased this one for 109 from Shopping Express during their Boxing Day sale…..So not the cheapest ever

Edit: mate purchased it but resold it into me

    • SE sale was a different model

Edit, was a slim, after new year they had the expansion sale.

Anyway, would never again shop with SE, useless when dealing with faulty goods.

  • +1

Whats the 20% off on ebay?

  • I just got one of these yesterday, picked it up at my local Good Guys through the 20% off eBay tech sale. Came to $114.40 down from $143. I can confirm it's the slim model.

It's seriously small, tiny compared to my old 1tb portable drive. Works great on the Xbone too.

$111 for a slim 2TB WD (much more reliable drive): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/188385

    • You linked to this same post and Seagate portable is more reliable than WD portable

      • Oops wrong link. And BS, Seagate is definitely not more reliable. You don't know what you're talking about.

        • +1

I think you don't know what you are talking about. Sure in the desktop drives ill buy wd red for reliability but for the portable segment this 2tb portable drive is way more reliable than wd 2tb portables

        • @Smellysocks:

Significant failure rates across Seagate products: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/what-hard-drive-should-i-buy/

That's bulls*** to claim that seaget is more reliable. What a joke.

        • +2

@watwatwat: lol the drive in this is a samsung m9t that research has no bearing on this portable.drive at all.

        • Multiple drives are listed in that post. They are representative of the Seagate product quality.

        • @watwatwat: and none of them was the samsung m9t drive. Enough arguing with you believe every product wd makes is the best.

        • @Smellysocks:

I don't care. If so many Seagate drives are bad, I will personally go with WD. That's called extrapolation.

        • @watwatwat: this is wd 2tb portable drives http://store.apple.com/au/reviews/HC307PA/A/wd-2tb-my-passpo…

Personally I have had 2 2tb wd portables fail and none of my 3 seagate 2tb drives.

Think what you want about the name. But a better product is a better product

        • @Smellysocks:

Who knows. Seagate lost my trust. I don't care what company it is, but if company X sells 3.5" drives that have dramatically higher failure rates to their competitors, I wouldn't go buying 2.5" from the same company when I can use their competitor for the same price.

        • @watwatwat: All brands have failures. Both of you, your anecdotal sample sizes are insignificant.

I've owned maybe more than dozen all up of portable HDDs and internal HDDs from both brands and none have failed on me yet.

I have no preference for either, but I do think Seagate right now makes better designed cases. This wasn't always the case. The WD passports are very thick compared to Seagates which look much sleeker, and they're metallic. It's also slightly cheaper.

        • -2

          @lostn:

My sample size is insignificant, the case study i linked to is not: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/what-hard-drive-should-i-buy/

        • @watwatwat: The sample is not relevant to the drives being discussed. Those are 3.5" drives which are not designed like 2.5" becasue they are not meant to be shaken and moved about much when in use unlike portable drives. Extrapolation is just not acceptable when you are clearly comparing apples to oranges. Companies whole range of products are not identical as you keep on insisting, they all VARY.

        • @watwatwat:

          No it's called fanboylation.

        • Seagate is my last choice, but they're slim drives, so they'll fit into ps3/xbox/laptop etc.

For comparison pricing: that WD is AUD$110 + post from Amazon, BHPhoto etc

        • -2

          @Utopian:

Wtf is slim? You mean 2.5"? Well so is that one.

        • +1

@watwatwat: Ahh its slim? As in slim. Surely you know what the word means. 2.5inch is how wide and tall it is, not how thick.

        • +2

@watwatwat: You have no idea what the slim here is and you see yourself as a guru of hard drive reliability?! The slim here is that it is 9.5mm thick, something WD has still not been able to do.

        • @rapoot6: He erroneously referred to the WD 2TB as slim. As you've mentioned, 9.5mm is referred-to as slim (25% thinner than others).

Biggest in 9.5mm is 2TB from Samsung-Seagate and 1TB hybrid (with 120GB SSD strapped to its back) from WD-HGST.

There are also 7mm drives, but 1TB limit & only from WD-HGST.

Each took a different path. Who knows what's next? :)

        • @Utopian: I have always wanted to give a massive thanks to Samsung/ Seagate for not exploiting their monopoly on the 9.5mm 2tb market. These drives are in high demand and still are available at very reasonable prices whilst enjoying (until now) solid reliability.

  • +3

these are the best. They're much slimmer than WD Slims, and they are fast.

Silver blue and red are Avalable at $79.99 US

    • +1

2 blue end up at AUD 229.67, got 2 blue at TGG Tuesday for 228.80 since the red had run out.

      • That was cheap for TGG. Got 2 Blue from Amazon. Not sure final price, bought with US Dollars and letting Citi Bank do its thing. Hopefully under $130

        • Ok, ended up being $120.50 for 2 Seagates with Citibank. So good price compaired to Amazons bad exchange rate $128.25. Better off in my pocket than theirs.

        • @megod: Huh…
          $60.25ea??
