Are these any good for reading pdf docs?
Won't be good if PDF contains images, tables charts or graphs. I had a kindle and thought it'd be good for viewing academic papers with but the vast majority of them were too complex to display properly on Kindle, not to mention the screen is also too small so lots of scrolling required.
10 inches is the minimum size required to view a PDF, IMO.
The Sony PRS-T3 is better for reading PDF as it can do reflow. But for lots of graphics, it's better to use a computer or a big tablet.
Or you could consider a Kindle DX, if you can find one
The Kindle DX doesn't have PDF annotation features.
OP only said reading PDFs, not annotating. But I agree with you - PDFs are best on big tablets. Are there any 13" tablets?
@tomkun01: Yes, there's a Sony 13" electronic ink reader that only does PDFs. However, it costs $1000+.

You will need to convert the pdf using software like Calibre, if it is mostly text then it should display fine.

You have to wait for a pick up email from eBay, and you also need a photo ID.

Try eBay - I bought my first kindle from eBay for an excellent price. Came with a broken screen. Called Amazon USA. They sent out a brand new one to me that day, and I returned my broken one to them via courier (they paid).
