Thanks Haz, I tried Nokia Here after your suggestion and you just saved me $56 odd dollars. Just downloaded Nokia Here with Australia offline maps and it works great, heaps better than Sygic so I revoked and negg'ed myself. I had seen comments about Nokia Here before but never looked into it at the time, glad I did this time! thanks:)
I run both Here maps and Sygic and find that they are both ideal for offline use… naturally the "free" price for Here maps gives it the edge :-)
Both sygic and here don't have Japan or Korea…
For Korea I have used Naver, but map refresh was slow and laggy, still haven't found a good one
I've always found € to be best value on their site. Europe and Russia is €20 which is more like AU$28. Similarly, World maps is €40 so that's around AU$56.
On iOS world is 49.99 aud
Also the black box video quality is not very good.
Has very limited setting
And loops only 1 video.
Better off getting a proper dashcam

I tried Here and Navigator on Android and both worked very good online & offline.

con: if u missed a turn, it wont find another route
I am using HERE on a nexus 5 and prefer it to my Navman GPS and google maps. If you deviate from the planned course it recalculates in 1 or 2 seconds - VERY fast :)
I am very impresed with HERE.
I use both - but definitely find Sygic to be a better replacement for the Car dash unit than Nokia Here. Here is obviously good because of the price and general purpose stuff, but still think Sygic worth getting for car navigation. Also, the Here maps compression sucks - it takes up twice as much space as Sygic on equivalent maps.
Nokia has been doing free maps and navigation via its Navteq division since Symbian S60 days. It's been several years now.
Software quality is superb for a free product.
You get speed warning (offline), and live traffic updates (online) out of the box. Free download of offline maps for many countries you are likely to visit. Turn-by-turn navigation is available for a good number of those countries.
It's a worthy competitor of Google Maps.

- ability to calculate the shortest path to all destination
I personally found the Nokia Here Maps which are available for free on Android and IOS to be better than Sygic
