Cheapest price yet. Brochure now online (click link).
The 4-page brochure is not on the Big W website yet, but the deal is definitely legit.
Is this valid at all stores/states?
Yes, it's a national sale (at all stores).
If this turns about to be a 3.5" drive, I am going to be very unhappy :P
It's 2.5 inch.
@bargain101: where can i see this 4-page catalog?
@bargain101: bargain101 would you mind scanning the 4 page catalog to ozbargain?
cheers
p.s. so this is definitely happening on 14th oct, and the big w 10% off day (mentioned below) is happening on the 21st?
awesome! officeworks should price match/beat by 5%
Don't see why not, and they do list each of the colours on their website, so they should be in-store too.
Brilliant :D
Very good price. Verbatim drives have a 2 year warranty iirc.
Excellent find.
For those who have/know someone who has a Woolworths Limited staff discount card, I believe this is the same day Big W have 10% off everything in store (just to save that little bit extra).
That sounds sweet if it is true. Do you have any links to support??
It's actually the 21st of November - confirmed by 2 victorian Big W stores.
In fact, it started today… just bought one…
noooo… just jokeing… :P
great price… one more reason to look forward to the next weekend!
only in pink, red and blue?
http://www.bigw.com.au/homeoffice/hard-drives.html
what brand HDD do they use?
Hitachi
Its a Toshiba. Well the one I bought this morning had a Toshiba in it :-)
I need another one of these since my last one was taken.
How cryptic… you make it sound like it was abducted by aliens, or 'taken to the afterlife.' :)
If it hasn't been returned yet then, I'm afraid to say, it is probably still being probed.
$69? I'll buy one and dump it in the PS3… pink case can then be binned lol
A 2.5" 320 WD HDD cost $69 at MSY and you will not have any wty complications
Cheapest I can see on MSY web site is Seagate and its $72
Right above the Seagate in their PDF price is "2.5” W.D. SATA-320G / 500G —> 69 / 106". FYI - I've taken drives our of their casing and used them as raw drives but you may have to put it back to get a WTY swap….if you don't break the enclosure…While this is a good deal, it's not the best if you just want the drive.
Is this really compatible with the PS3? I thought PS3 uses 2.5 inch internal hard drives
This also uses a 2.5" internal drive. You open the external chassis and you have yourself a 2.5" drive.
nice price.. probably best off going straight to officeworks for the pricematch tho, not usually a lot of stock available of these loss leaders..
I've got a blue one couple of months ago, it was $60
from where?
I've never done a price match at Officeworks before. I didn't receive the BigW catalogue but would I need to bring one along? Or would it be enough to tell the staff at Officeworks to call up a BigW to confirm?
anyone know if this hard drive will work as a wii usb-loader drive?
I'm currently using a Lacie 320gb one… well so no, I don't know for sure, but yes 320gb hard drives work.
the 250 Gb one works perfectly for wii usb-loader
Thanks. Gonna let my friend know. Softmodding it next week.
I purchased one of these about 18 months ago for $129 so a good price.
However, mine gives me constant problems dropping out while transferring files or wanting to format itself. Hopefully for you guys this problem is isolated to my device only. This occurs on every PC I have connected it to. The blue light on the drive blinks are there is constant clicking noises. I have read that this is a common fault with this drive so keep your receipt just in case.
So.. there's a chance this will be complete crap..
like all brands, there's always a percentage of failures.. some just have higher percentages than others ;)
this thing has a firewire port as well!
http://www.verbatim.com.au/en_AU/products/hard-drives/2-5-ha…
and that too FW 800! (apparently) http://www.hitechreview.com/it-products/verbatim-surefire-fw…
sweet!
not this one
not fw 800? or no fw at all?
What are my chances of price-matching at OfficeWorks if I don't have a BigW in my city (Newcastle)? How do I even try? Print the as-yet-non-existent catalogue and bring it in to OfficeWorks? - cheers
what? Newcastle does not have BigW. I lived there before man. Try Jesmond shopping centre, close to Newcastle University. There is 1 there. I think Charlestown also has 1 BigW.
Thanks! I only moved recently & without a find-your-nearest-store option on the BigW website I didn't recognise the suburb names! :p
Anyone can help me with a newbie tutorial about how to pricematch at officeworks? Will they only price match on the 14th Nov?
Easy. Just take/printout the brochure that you want to do price match. Go to OW, grab the item on the shelf - if not there ask one of the salesperson there. Bring it to counter and say you want them to pricematch it. S/He usually call the supervisor to get approve. Just make sure they punch in the cheapest price - 5%.
Generally, they'll ask you if there is any stock at that competitive store. You can say you didn't bother to drive/walk there. They can call if they wish.
if it's a one day only sale they'll only pricematch on the day
same goes for stores and their opening times, if the store is closed then they won't price match it. and they include delivery prices in the final price match as well
here are the officeworks links for anyone interested in going down the pricematch route:

Blue:

Pink:

can i price match on the online store?
who you gonna talk to on the online store man?
some PC stores have a 'price match' function. you just submit your stuff and they will respond.
How many can I buy via price match at OW? Is there a limit?
Really keen to pick one up, but I doubt they are still available thus expired. After Saturday, has anyone had luck with price matching officeworks??
This Saturday 14th - you're still in with a chance :)
Thanks mate, really keen to pick one up :)
Is the drive inside SATA or IDE? I plan to rip it out of the case.
By the way how do people plan to get a pricematch at OW without a catalog? Someone got a scan?
And here is the PDF catalogue for easy printing:
http://catalogues.bigw.com.au/imageicon/BGW/Prod/J00005969/C…
thanks dude, much appreciated. will head to officeworks first thing saturday morning!
So how is this drive compare to say 2.5" Seagate and WD Passport portable?
Warranty matters for me so this drive is only 2 years what about the other two?
Also is this compatible with PS3?
Cheers.
Would this drive work on Xbox 360 with this:

A few things about officeworks, its its a close pricematch say off by 10% or something theyre usually happy to do it, but if its a lot and the manager is well let just say someone who doesnt want to make officeworks lose out, then they wont, don't get me know you won't really know they will act as if they full tried to get you the price match but they actually dont, they go to the back walk around come back and say we couldn't get through, its too much off or they dotn ahve stock,
this was espc annoying cause i had already booked the vxnano mouse at EB for 50bucks and i got OW to pricematch it which they had it at 149 and they went to the back and came back and say no they dont have stock im liek did u say my name and everything, they said absolutely, then i went to the EB to get it for the 50bucks since i didnt get that extra 5% and there were only 3 staff there so i asked them all did OW call u guys about 20mins ago, they go nope. so yeah…
but now writting this i feel stupid cuz this is something that bigW prolly has alot of stock and is posted on the website so really how will they get out of this.
The OW price match will only be a $3.45 saving. Are you really that cheap?
I'm sorry, what website did you think you were posting a comment on?
I find officeworks are usually more convenient to get, open better hours (7am to 9pm around me) and have much better stock levels. I don't really care about the 5% saving its just easier to go to officeworks. Also, if there were an issue with the device I would rather deal with officeworks than big W.
I believe it depends on whom you get on the day.
I bought a Panasonic Camera for $457 (OW price was $688), bought an iPod Gen 5 8 GB today for $118 (OW price is $168). Both price matched by OW, without much fuss.
How did you manage "iPod Gen 5 8 GB today for $118" ???
everytime i have got OW to price match, they have done it in front of me on the nearest phone.
Maybe you got an arrogant officeworks manager.
Previously i got OW to price match an ipod touch 2ng gen 8gb (before the 3rd gen one came out) for $190
best deal ive ever got (and i got three of them)
and yes i uploaded the receipts to prove it on a previous deal posted on here.
just wanted to say I got one today at officeworks elsternwick (one more left) and they matched the price with the 5% so about $65 all up…thanks to the OP been looking for a while!
How did you manage that. I was told that they check all the price matches, and if it is not for the day, they would not be able to match it. I am now waiting for Saturday.
Before Saturday arrives, can someone please give any expert advice, how is this drive. I intend to offload some music, videos and photos from my laptop to free up the disc space.
Although I agree, I find OW friendly and less hassles to deal with. No bargaining required, as in any other stores like HN, JB HiFi, GGs etc.
im going to bigw tonight and stash a few of them…
Just called the local office works. They are willing to beat the price. Will probably grab two of them.
edit: Only willing to beat it on the day of the sale. They will probably reduce to match the price by then…
Anyone know how much they go for on ebay?
Hi guys, just have a funny idea. Why not buy it now from HN or GG @ full price, then go back with the BigW adv on Sat and ask for a refund on the different as they have price ganrantee of 110% and 120% of different respectively. It may end up cheaper than price match @ OW. How this plan sound?
Do it - perfect way of getting back at the dodgy HN and GG franchises
That is a really naughty way of getting at the haughty retailers.
Whenever,HN would say they cannot offer a particular price, I had that in mind. I knew that I could get the proof of price and claim the difference. However, as I have never done it and reading HN's t&c I was not confident of their intentions. So, the bottomline, I have never tested the theory.
Well for that price you could always give it a go. Let us say buy it on Friday and ask them for a price match on Saturday. If they don't just return it. It would still be within the 3 days change of mind consumer protection laws (at least in Victoria). Remember to not open the packing and hang on to the receipt.
Let us know how you go. If you suceed, that would mean another way of getting better prices.
Best of luck.
I dont know - they did it despite the day - maybe they missed it. Also, this drive PLUGS RIGHT IN to the ps3 and viola, FAT32 single partition 320gb drive!!! AWESOME!
Officeworks will only pricematch IF they can get through to Big W and confirm that they still have any in stock (unless you get a new or a nice SA who just puts it through for you without checking). However, on days like this when (presumably) alot of people will try to price match the same thing (as has been the case with several Dell misprints), where the item is on sale for one day only, Officeworks are likely to try to call to confirm, knowing that Big W may have sold out.
I went into Big W this morning (around 8.45am) and all the RED were sold out, as were the pink. They had Blue left, but they were going pretty fast too - plus while I was there they were getting phone enquiries as to how many they had in stock. I think they may have had around 15 left from what I could see of the shelf (they keep them locked up).
So…anyone doing a officeworks price match, I'd suggest, get in early OR find someone who looks like they don't know what they're doing (hopefully they'll let it go through and not ask someone with more authority for help).
Oh, and for anyone going, Officeworks are open 8-6 on Saturdays, not 7-9 as mentioned above.
Just came back from Big W. It so packed around the electronics counter. Customers were getting grumpy at the workers there because of the wait. There were only 3 hard drives in the glass display, I got a blue one - yay!
Tip: I suggest you wait at the hard drive display, away from the crowded counter. So when a worker comes to open the display to get one, you can get them to grab you one as well.
PS3 and mobile phone was selling quick as well.
A pallet of nappies and the shelves were emptied in 10mins, boxes of $1 thongs were also being savaged.
The cheap toilet paper was largely untouched though.
I just went to Officeworks (Highpoint,Vic) it was dead in there.
Marked price was $114 and when the OW representative scanned it on the system looks like they have already adjusted the price for the day at $68.90, which also surprised the guy who was looking after me.
So yea anyone looking for that %5 extra discount i don't think it will apply as their computers have it for $68.90
It will apply if you price match harris tech ;)
Bait advertising! My local store (QV) only had 10 today to start with, sold out soon after opening. Pure bait advertising!
bait advertising? first in best dressed
Indeed. They had at least twice as much stock as Officeworks and it's likely this model will be superseded by Verbatim hence the low price. They also had plenty of comfort/consolation food on offer for those that missed out = Belgian chocolate $1 for 200g block :-) The QV (Melb city) store is likely to have less stock than a big suburban one and more traffic/customers buying them at normal prices before the sale.
blame yourself.
You must be slooooooooooooooow… I was there not long after opening, there were plenty of stock left, everyone RAN for the ps2 and the dollar thong but the hard drive section was quiet…
I went to Officeworks (VIC) to pricematch. No need to do it folks Officeworks are on the ball with this one. The price in their system is $68.90 (10c cheaper!) today and printed shelf tags were being put on already - they may change the price again tomorrow once BigW's sale is over. They didn't have as much stock on the shelf as my BigW before the sale(around 15+ @BigW, 7 @Offw) but I got the blue one I wanted and there was no queue.
When I went to my BigW afterwards all the drives had been cleared out and there was a big queue for other stuff (that fortunately I didn't want) :-)
Yup as above, went to Glebe OW and the price automatically scans at 68.90….bought two.
Only red and pink colours in stock haha
Hey fellow ozbargainers. I just got a blue one for $55 by price matching at Office Works. Harris Technology is having a one day sale today and have priced the hdd at $58 (pic in 1st link below). HT also has a lot of stock of these drives but ONLY IN PINK (pic in 2nd link below).
HT one day sale - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/18808
HT price - http://tinypic.com/r/28ck5ds/4
HT stock - http://tinypic.com/r/j08nyo/4
Good bargain hunting! May only work in Sydney and while the stock lasts at HT though (given it's only the HT North Ryde store that's having a one day sale). HT don't have this drive listed at all online for price matching.
Thanks! True, but from what I could see no one was buying HT's stock of verbatim drives. Probably because they are only selling them in pink. If you look at the pink versions of this drive in real life (the pictures online are misleading) you will understand why no one wants it. The pink versions of these drives are probably the ugliest pink I've ever seen.
Agree that pink is only likely appealing to some of the female audience and this shade would be aimed at people who also love Hannah Montana ;-) Put 'em in that toy/lunch box section and they'll sell out immediately! ;-)
Missed out at Big W Bendigo this morning by 9.30 a.m. ! Went to Officeworks to price match which they were eventually prepared to do. By the time it was scanned they were already at a reduced price of $68.90, so I'm tipping that price will apply everywhere.
So to save time I would forget Big W and get into your OW quickly !
Sorry Daydream - missed your earlier post.
You're right about the crowds too
Typical of Big W not to have stock. Good Work Officeworks in making it easy.
Off to OW to buy one…. :)
Yeah, me too… Go to BigW but no stock, went to OW in Alexandria it was $68.90. I grab 2, there are plenty of stock available there (20-30) all color available. Thanks OW for the sweet deal.
Got one from OW, Chadstone at 9 am for $68.90. It still is a very good deal.
The customer ahead of me returned his drive as OW had dropped its price to beat BigW. Can you believe it!!
At that time it stil had atleast 15 of them, and some more on the hold (which included one of mine).
No rush, no other customers around at that time.
So, if anyone wants it probably call Chadstone and see if they would hold one out for you.
BTW how is the drive. Any reports on that. Well it could probably be too late to ask now.
Cheers.
Now posted as a separate Officeworks deal because of the pricematch! Hmmmm… Might be a lot of additional Ozbargain posts if that becomes a trend… ;-)
Where is the direct link to this? Any source to back this up?
