    Great!!

Thanks. But not as good as ANZ's offering (50k Qantas points, $95 annual fee):

NAB's promo is even more beneficial (no annual fee first first year, 40k Qantas points).

Cheers, awesome deal. Have been looking to get this card for a while. Don't forget that it's platinum card has no foreign transaction fees with rates pretty similar to 28 degrees. Like a 28 degrees but with points

      ..and an annual fee!

I reckon they'd waive when you threaten to cancel.

        • +4

I've tried in the past - they dont negotiate on fees at all.

'If you dont want an annual fee, you're welcome to use our zero mastercard options which has no annual fee'

        • @tizey: LOL. The only reason to have this card (apart from promo points like this) is the few points you'll get on the odd occasion you're spending in foreign currency.

          @tizey:

You think the CBA would negotiate on fees? lol

          @abc:

Negotiate was the wrong word - waive fees is what I meant.

As for having this card, I believe it is worthwhile if you are travelling overseas at some point during the year (maybe without the Qantas option) as you can collect points with no forex fees - usually forex fees negate any benefit of using a CC whilst overseas.

I'd rather use a Bankwest Platinum Credit Card overseas as opposed to a Debit Card (say, Citibank) or 28 degrees card for a variety of reasons:

          1. Risk - if I get skimmed/fraud, I've got a recourse that its the banks problem.
          2. Simplicity - I dont have to worry about 'topping up' a Credit Card.
          3. Hotel Security Deposits - couldnt care when it gets released with a credit card… major pain in the arse when its a debit card.
          4. Instant access to view your balance and transactions pending - something neither Citibank or 28 Degrees has.

Perfect timing. I just closed my BW Platinum zero fees card. Not as good as NAB, or some of the others, but for those of us accumulating as many points as possible, $160 is a good price for 50k points.

    • Think you'd still get the points if you already have. BankWest zero platinum? :/

      (I have one)

      • All you can do is ask. I can say HSBC were happy to honour their QFF points promo for me to switch, when I was going to close my normal platinum card (which was fee free with points + BT).

  • 'spend' $2500 in 3 months ??!!! no thanks… that's way in excess of other QFF deals in recent years.

(but thanks for the info re ANZ - might consider that !)

    • Plus a reduced earning structure.. 0.75 Qantas Points per $1 spent

      • The Platinum card can act as a door-opener for the 'invite-only' BankWest Qantas World Mastercard which has an earning rate of 1.0 Qantas Points per $ and no overseas transaction costs.

You'd have to ponder whether you're likely to recoup the annual fee in overseas transaction costs/points on overseas spend, otherwise there are much cheaper ways to get 1 Qantas point per $ on a Mastercard/Visa.

  • Assuming this is a "New Customers Only" get-up

Has anyone had luck in receives QFF deals if their current customers?

Is it as simple as going the HardBall route of "Give me the deal or I'll go else where"

    • What is the definition of new customer? Can I cancel and then reapply at a later date?

      • The T&C's don't specify "new" but from previous experience you cannot have possessed a previous credit card from the Bank for 6-12 months (i.e. cancel and wait 6-12 months to be classified as "new").
Each bank has a different policy so call them and find out (and don't forget to post results here :))

        • I cancelled mine a month ago, but it wasn't Qantas, just the Zero version. Surely they'd be breaching their conditions if they denied you on that basis….

@JohnHowardsEyebrows: Call them and ask nicely, hopefully they won't decline you.
Just be careful that if you apply online in the hope you get it and they decline your application, it will negatively affect your credit rating.

        • @kronos319: Instore would probably be the go - far nicer than other banks. And free coffee and Kool Fruits! Gotta be the Ozbargain dream bank!

  • Just got this cc and am filling in the direct debit to pay it off completely every month.

Anyone tell me plse on the form to give BW my direct debit info, what's the diff btw paying off 'Statement Balance ' and, 'Account balance' option?

    • +1

account balance is paying off every cent owing on your account. statement balance is what you've spent during the month and is owing.
