Bought the Gyro for the old mans birthday a few days back…from what I have read / seen, it looks decent:

Yeah it is a great little device for around the house. Well worth $25
Even better value when it was available for $15.

Yeah, I love mine. I even dropped it in a bucket water, fished it out, took the back off it and dried it out and it still runs.
Uses an 18650 battery too so if it dies you can just take it apart and replace it.
Any good recommendation for a basic sander (eg. for sanding paint from wall/doors) & drill (eg. drilling a hole in the concrete wall to hang TV)? I'm not that handy so probably wont be using those very often if at all…Thanks
Any good recommendation for a basic sander
This will do fine as a basic sheet sander. Just go to Bunnings and by various grades of paper finishing off with the finest grade.

& drill (eg. drilling a hole in the concrete wall to hang TV)?
Again, a basic drill is all you need. Just purchase a decent masonary bit for the hole size you need. Get a cordless and you'll find more uses for it in the future.

Best to go with a drill with a hammer function for brick / masonry…I'd go for this (if you want B&D cordless) for the extra $20:

You could always hire from a hardware store if you only plan on using them once.
But you dont have the freedom and choice to drag the project when you want to finish due to laziness because it is not your tool to use whenever you want to.
Sadly if you got one of their nicd cordless it may just make you procrastinate even more as by the time you want to use it.
It will most likely be out of battery due to the older tech used and discharge, then will need to wait a few hours for it to charge, by then you will have lost interest and say you will do it next time.
Rinse and repeat haha.
Bosch lithium allot better, and more powerful tools, even after 1yr you will still be surprised that it has 70+% power. Also it's made in Europe not China like B&D.
@lplau: I understand wat u mean Iplau but how much more is the Bosch one tho? B&D is now 50% which I'm guessing is very cheap…probably more than good enough for a DIY noob…
@homersyd: just make sure you don't procrastinate as leaving the battery for half a year or a full year will most likely make you regret.
If the battery stays flat for too long, the battery will think the full state is the same as flat state, due to memory effect
thanks for the suggestions TightBottom and Kirt! :)
I think i might get the hammer drill (sounds more flexible). Now it's time watch some drilling 101 videos on youtube lol (I seriously have NEVER used a drill before lol)
Thank you OP
Thanks OP. Bought a handy saw.
Any good polisher on sale?
Just bought a 120W 254mm random orbital polisher. Don't know if it's any good yet, but at $42.99 it was cheaper than their store brand and has a two year warranty.
Can't believe that in 2015 they're still churning out Ni-CD tools, which are the worst 'memory effect' suffferers and thus pretty horrendous for infrequent home users.
Better off with a corded tool for infrequent home use.
Bugger was about to buy one but I'm an 'infrequent' home user myself :(
Agreed. Learned that from experience. Never buy Ni-CD tools.
Ive got a dewalt 18v ni-cd battery from 2002 that is still going fine, probably 70% of original capacity so they can last and thats average home use, maybe not infrequent, more occasional;).
That Dewalt is several pay grades above these - that said Ni-CD is actually very good battery technology IF and thats key IF the user uses it correctly, which from memory with Ni-CD entails making sure that the battery is fully discharged prior to recharging and then making sure that it's given a full recharge.
I believe I read something where they stated that if used CORRECTLY Ni-CD powered devices could have a usable lifespan longer than Lithium ones but as with battery technology it's about having the right type of battery for the device and ALSO for the user habits.
Its also luck of the draw! Full disclosure, the surviving ni-cad battery is one from a batch of 8. Most of the others averaged around 5 year mark but one or two didn't make it 2 years.
FWIW B&D own dewalt, maybe they use the same grade cells, maybe not??

Go to bunning n have a look at Ozito brand. Pick up a jigsaw for $39, came with basic blade. Bought a different blade to cut angle/or thicker wood and it costs half of the jigsaw :). I am getting sander soon for polishing old cupboards.
bola2000 - it is now getting that way you buy a new tool rather than parts. many stores will swap different parts you need, and if the price differental is small a second back up tool works well.
Is this Black & Decker Hammer Drill - 910 Watt, a good value to get? if not, can you recommend another one?
http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Black…
In short, yes. Only price competition is from Ozito and the B&D are superior. That said for a lot of users I think spending marginally more will get you a better and more versatile drill for general use - as I was going to grab one of these this morning BUT discovered that for IIRC Bunnings had a 650w Bosch impact drill that is capable of impact drilling, regular drilling and ALSO driving for $35 more.
http://www.bunnings.com.au/bosch-650w-impact-drill_p6200213
So for me and a lot of other home users an all in one drill solution is handy, rather than having a specialist hammer drill and then another lower powered driver etc. It really depends on the prospective buyers needs BUT for ~$50 that B&D is good value, prolly comparable to products $30-40 more.
I already have a normal blue Bosch drill. I just need a decent hammer drill for cutting hole in a double brick wall, or drill holes in the concrete for anchoring bolts.
You'll find it much easier to cut holes through double brick using a rotary/pneumatic hammer drill like this: http://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-850w-rotary-hammer-drill-ki…
I am a home users too. How about this one? http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Black…
I'm just wondering if it is wise to get the 450Watt or get the 910Watt one or maybe this Bosch
Ni-cad drill not worth $50. In fact just avoid these tools like the plague, Black and Decker are not a good brand. Source: I'm a tradie.
I agree with other poster - Ozito are OK from Bunnings for just home use. Otherwise invest $$$ in the name brands (I prefer Hitachi) and they will last a lifetime. Anything with a battery go lithium (especially if your just an occasional user)
Costco has a Hitachi drill and driver set
I am wondering to why they are significantly reduced unless…..especially the latest Ni-Cad stuff..
I've got a 10.8v B&D Drill and I can't fault it. I got it with two batteries from masters for $59. Holds charge well, and the matrix attachments are made very well.
But I'm not at tradie… just a home handyman :)
Great price and well worth it if you use stuff occasionally.
FYI on cordless power tools from anyone:
Ni-Cad = crap, power goes down as battery drains, takes forever to charge. Their only benefit is cheap.
Li-On - faster to charge, full power till flat, MUCH better in all ways except cost.
Let's not forget that nicad tools have usually flat battery every time you grab it from the garage while li-on stay charged for up to 18months. I had ni-cad for home use and every time i needed it, it was flat.
Hi guys, does anyone know if this orbital sander is actually a Random Orbital? I can't seem to confirm this anywhere, and I'm not sure of the model number either :/
http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Black…
Yes it is. Model # is KA191EK-XE. Bought one but haven't tried it out yet.
Thanks litoria and Giteau! I may very well be getting one then :)
Bought one, received it today. I haven't tested it yet, but on the packaging it says :
"Random Orbital Sander"
Edit : Just turned it on, and yes it's RANDOM :)
Bought an angle grinder during the 20% off sale, but it's not listed on the website.
Might pop in to see if I can get it adjusted to a 50% sale price…based on the price guarantee.
Great post OP, anyone know when this promo ends?
Ends 08/03/15 but based on one of the SCA staffs, they are clearing B&W and not going to restock again.
Thanks heaps for the info & sorry for delayed + vote :)
Just went and got the 650W impact drill, for some reason, these are scanning at the same price as the 450w ones…I guess its a bonus for me
Nice find.
Title could possibly renamed "50% off all Black and Decker Tools and Products"
