Price in title OP!
I got the rs120 a while ago, just terrible. Lots of popping, crackling, hissing, etc. Also when, say, you get to the end of an album and zone out and don't realise nothing is playing anymore, believe me, it will let you know, IT RELEASES A DEAFENING HISS when there's no audio input for 30 seconds or so. Admittedly I was in a room full of electronics that could've caused interference, but what's the point having them if they can't be used there? Not worth the ~$70 I paid for them, so returned.
"IT RELEASES A DEAFENING HISS when there's no audio input for 30 seconds or so" - yea they do that.
I used a pair of RS120`s for about 5 years and they do have some interference from other wireless sources, there is an option to manually change the channel but there are only 3 channels.
Holding out for a good price on the RS180.
Argghhh, glad I'm not the only one who has this problem! I have the RS 160 and it makes the same high-pitched squeal when there's no input after a while.
I've tried the RS 180s too, honestly not worth the price tag! There's no bass, and there was significant crackle. Having said that; I tried them on in-store, so who knows how much damage they'd received before I tried them!
perhaps RS170, with bass boost, might be more to your liking.
FYI, the new RS165/RS175/RS185/RS195 (proprietary wireless) have just been released. hopefully that means a significant price drop on RS160/RS170/RS180 (Kleer wireless).
i would definitely buy one of the above models (either range) over the RS110 or other RF models from the lower range.
i have an RF wireless headphone (Sony) and it sucks! [i bought it for my ex-gf…if i had been buying for myself, i definitely would have got a Kleer sennheiser model! now I'm stuck with a crappy RF model…I should have just got the Kleer!]
Catch of the Day had RS160s for $100 for a long time, and I picked up the RS170 for $200 at DSE before Christmas. They seem to get discounted quite a bit already.
the RS-170 have been under $200 before ($180 delivered, I believe). although, that was when the AUD was a lot stronger than now!
still a bit expensive for me personally. i might pay that for an RS175, but would prefer to spend $150 or less, particularly for the old models.
i have an excessive number of headphones already (including an RF wireless, and a bluetooth wireless!), and don't REALLY need another pair, so i would only get a pair if they are run-out/drastically on sale!
I was going to recommend a RS160/RS170 over the RS120 until I read your comment. I haven't experienced the hissing and I have had both the RS160 and RS180. Weird.
As others have noted, that hiss almost blows your ears out.
Also, line of sight is important. Make sure there's nothing between you and the transmitter.
Surprisingly comfortable. On my head anyway.
Hope this helps.
They are a good unit.
Sure there is a bit of a bash to the ears when the hiss kicks in….but I love walking around d the office with what I want to hear, get a fair way around the building even without line of sight.
All in all better than hearing the boss!!!!
I personally don't find the hiss that bad and I can walk all around my house with no problems.
Note that this is not the rechargeable model.
