  • I wish the XPS 13 was included. Is it too new?

    • I think so. I reckon they're trying to clear older stock to make way for the infinity screens. So shiny.

      • Infinity screens? What are they?

        • +2

          fancy name for slim bezel.

        • @beaver2233: Is that the thing the New XPS 13 is using? Will all future laptops be using these?

        • +1

@lostn: Yes and hopefully! Every other laptop looks outdated in comparison haha

    • Any way to get a discount on the XPS 13 at all? I think I am about to buy one.

      • +3

Yes there is a 16% off code (look on whirlpool for the code).

        Edit: here it is: 7FKDL1Z6Z3GHS3.

        • Thanks for this, I used the code to buy an i5.

And if it hasn't been mentioned on this forum before, you can go on the dell chat and talk to a rep, quote the discount code and the discount it gives and ask them to beat it. I got an extra 1% off, but hey, it's $17 ish less I have to pay.

Thanks. Would be good if you could put the model number and price (and even some specs) next to each link.

It's a pita to have to click each one. Especially when none are what you are what you are looking for.

Apologies, first post. I will update :)

      • Excellent. Good work!

  • The Inspiron 15 5000 with the R270m seems okay. 1080p, and a semi-decent GPU (ranks 88th). With the "U" processor I'd presume you'd get decent battery life too?

    http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-15-5548-laptop/pd?oc=y5101…

    • I have this one (except it has the previous gen CPU) . great unit, works well, good battery too. I got mine at the Dell Outlet for $699.

      • Wow great deal. A 1080p screen with a R270 for $699!? Approx how much battery do you get on it?

        • at the moment it says 88% and 5hr02min. Works unplugged for as long as I ever need, couch surfing etc.

1920x1080 touch screen, r270 (my 270 is 2gig, new are 4gig), hybris SSHDD, AC wireless, backlit keyboard. The track pad works great, up to 4 finger swipes etc.
          .
Only difference between old and new is CPU and 2gig on the vid card.

$1099 for the new one sounds pretty good, unless you want to keep checking every day hoping one appears on the outlet http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/product… - I have seen one fora while though.

  • With the absolute bullshit I'm going through currently trying to order a simple, non-custom Laptop through Dell for an Executive Manager at work I can't in good conscience ever recommend them, usually go through HP or Lenovo and we never have these issues.

Was told 2-3 business days we'd have the laptop, took them over a week to even process the order (they claim the day they process it is the order date, not when I actually placed and paid for it) as they were having "software issues", and now delivery ETA is still 2 weeks away. Impossible to speak to anyone in Australia and speaking to anyone in customer service, even a "Manager" is like ramming your head into a brick wall! Last time we ever bother with Dell, not worth the headaches.

Have you ever experienced a Dell support came to your place, repaired a faulty computer to a rubbish with screws all over the floor and left? I have! That's why I stopped using Dell since then. I managed to get full refund, but it was through Fair Trading because Dell ignored me for all of my valid complains.

    • +3

We use Dell exclusively at work and I find them great. Account manager is always helpful, they give us great prices, and ProSupport means support issues are dealt quickly with by people in Sydney. I would absolutely recommend Dell.

      • +2

ProSupport are a whole different experience, have dealt with them almost daily at a past job and rarely had an issue at all, they were great! That's what you get when you deal with local based techs and not outsourced to people on a 20'th of the wage who couldn't care less.

        • +1

If you're a business, ask for a local account manager. They happily gave us one after we kept complaining about the terrible response times..

The XPS 12 with i7 and SSD is good at this price.

  • Thinking about the Inspiron 15 3542 - $799.00 Save $200

Anyone got opnions? just keen to play DOta2 on 60fps, i think the GeForce 840M can handle that

  • Must have expired, prices have all jumped back to their ridiculous normal high.

    • XPS 12 is still $700 off, but I'd avoid it like the plague, unless you get it with ProSupport…

  • Any recomendations on a 15.6" with a 1080p screen and Radeon R7 M270 or better? The Inspiron here is back up to $1499…

    • Doubt you'll find as good a deal as the ones posted here - considering they're 5th gen i7's!

Happy to be proven wrong though. :)

      • Damn- I let the lack of votes put me off.
