Free 1000 Velocity Points When You Sign up for Mypost Digital Mailbox

1200

Same as last time. Get 1000 Velocity Frequent Flyer points for free just for signing up.

To earn 1,000 bonus Velocity Points, you must sign up for My Post Digital Mailbox between 12 February and 12 March 2015 inclusive. To be eligible to earn Velocity Points, your first and last name must match the information in your Velocity account. Velocity Points will be allocated to your Velocity Account within 10 business days from transaction date.

If you don't have a Velocity account yet you can join for free here.

For those unfamiliar with Mypost Digital Mailbox it is basically a website that stores your bills electronically and allows you to pay them online. My personal opinion is that it's nothing ground breaking but it's slightly more convenient than the old paper and email bills I received which is why I use it. The 50 Velocity points per bill paid is a bonus.

Disclosure: I have nothing to do with Aust Post but I work for Virgin Australia who run the Velocity program.

  • Is it free to sign up and are there subscription costs?

    • Yes, free to sign up and no subscription costs.

      • Where does is say or promote this free 1000 velocity points?

        • It's in an email being sent out today. Not a targeted offer though, everyone can enter a Velocity number to receive the points. Just make sure the first and last name used for Mypost match your Velocity account.

How about the poor plebs who signed up for this when it was brought out? Not me…just asking for a friend.

    • +3

They got the pleasure of convenient bill paying instead?

    • +5

I registered again under another username and email

      • different velocity email too?

        • Yeah different velocity email. I'll take the risk it doesn't authenticate with my velocity email.

  • So will the points be credited to my velocity account automatically or do I have to do something

    • Credited automatically within 10 business days.

  • -3

and what?! it only support iOS .. where is android apps!!?

    • You can do everything through the website. The app is just optional.

  • +1

I could never really find a reason to use this. Most of my bills have automatic debiting set up as it is, and even if I didn't have that getting an email and logging into my online banking to make the payments is a quick and painless process. If I was taking the time to pay bills manually chances are I'd log into my banking anyway to double check account balances.

1000 bonus points isn't bad however.

  • Does the bill payment accept credit card without surcharge?

    • Yes.

    • so we can pay council with credit card without surcharge with this method?? (the council bill says they will charge x% if paying by cc)

      • I pay my council rates by credit card without a surcharge using Mypost. Can't say for sure if it will be the same for every council though.

        • what council? anyone know if brisbane city council still charge cc fee with mypost?

        • @iversonjack: Mine is Ipswich Council. Not sure about BCC.

Is it possible to create 100 accounts to get 100,000 points?

    • I guess it is possible if you have 99 friends or family although the points would be sent to each individual account rather than 100k points being sent to a single Velocity account.

      • Ahh right… true… oh well there goes taht idea lol

    • +1

      Yes it's called family pooling

      https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/ProgramBenefitā€¦

Good if you're in a family that breeds like rabbits.

      • +1

A Family Pool can consist of a total of six family members (including the beneficiary), with up to two members 18 years or over and up to four members under 18 years of age.

        • Do identities need to be verified?

        • +1

@JohnHowardsEyebrows: I'd like to know this as well, could be 5000 points in it.

        • +1

          @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

well for the AusPost one, you need a mobile phone to send SMS code to & you address needs to be in their database (so you can't make up a non existing one).
So it'll depend on whether they cross-check against existing customers/signups or not.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: For family pooling? Not really sure. I don't recall submitting ID for Mypost but they send me my private mail electronically so I guess it has to match the name of the addressee?

        • You can transfer points to another member who doesn't need to be part of your family. I think the minimum transfer is 5000 points but if you convinced a few friends to sign up their families you could transfer all the points to your account and share(?) the rewards.

        • @donga100:

we got stung with that, you only pool the points earned after you pool.
i.e if you have 4900 point then decide to pool, you can't transfer those points.
you have to stop pooling, earn another 5000 points, xfer those points, then pool.

  • what the 1000 points worth? can we redeem straight away to gifcard maybe?

    • +2

eg; $20 coles gift card is 4500 points

      • +4

        ok
        well too small
        no bother
        but thanks

        • +11

          Not a true OzBargainer!

          @abc:
I feel hunting for bargains can be saving in $ but actually we pay with something else: our precious time.
there should be a smart decision spending time vs cash :)

          @erwinsie:

Some of us do this stuff in the downtime at work..or sometimes…during the busy times at work.

        • +1

@erwinsie: You mean "ROB" - Return On Bargain?

    • +3

The cheapest thing you can redeem is 2000 points for a Lonely Planet book. Average/min value of 1000 points is around $5 but it varies depending on what you use it for. If you use points to purchase flights or upgrades it is significantly more but even some gift vouchers offer better value for money such as $100 for Crown Hotels for 15,000 points.

  • OP, can you post link of where it states 1000 points will be awarded?
    \

    All I found is this

    https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Earn/BankingFiā€¦

    • Sorry, no link. It is just being sent in an email today.

      • +1

        Ok cool.

Safe to say no rush to sign up given it's a time limited offer rather than a quantity limited offer

        • Yes, so long as you sign up before 12 March 2015 you should be fine.

  • Ha, AusPost say my address doesn't exist!

    • +1

~How can your mailbox be real if your address isn't real?~

  • I already have a digital mailbox. If I add my velocity number will I still get the 1000 points?

    • I doubt it. You will receive 50 points per bill over $50 paid.

  • Dammit, might have to create another account then

  • Just made an account and was keen to use but couldn't find a single biller that I use on their list :( made suggestions though.

  • Just signed up. However found not many WA establishment on the list. Looks like will be only receiving one bill per year!

    • Same here, was surprised how few providers they have!

  • +1

Just as well, I was looking at signing up to this a few months back but they had address issues which they've rectified for me since.

The best part is that I'll pay using a Virgin Flyer card so more Velocity points for me!

  • Signed up last time. No points :-(

  • +1

Thanks Donga, let us know if there are more ways to collect V points :)

  • 403 Our system is currently unavailable. We'll be back as soon as we can, so please try again later.

Man I hate it when my mailbox at home gives me a 403 error when im expecting important mail. Oh wait, it doesn't. Because that system has been working fine for the last what? 100 years?

    • Are you trying to say that physical post is more convenient and reliable than email? Oh well, I guess Australia Post won't be offended given that they operate both services…

  • do we need to confirm our mobile numbers? or is the email validation link sufficient?

  • The service providers are pretty limited. What else one do with the digital mailbox? Can you make payments via this thing if the bill is not a listed service provider? cheers.

  • +1

Thanks op gave it a go

  • The site is a pain - the verification SMS s are stll getting sent out SEVERAL DAYS after signing up ( always different )

Which is strange ( as well as annoying ) as account had been activated successful

I wouldn't trust my credit card details to be kept on a site that does that

  • how long does it take to have the points into velocity after we signed up ?

    • i got mine after 2 days!

  • +1

I know a few have said they have received their points. Any others? I have yet to receive the points!

  • +2
