I was looking at a new TV and was really only looking at size and picture quality for general viewing.
I ended up purchasing this Sony model for $2000 bucks from JB Mt Druitt. I understand it's not UHD or OLED but I thought $2k for 70 inches, 100HZ, Smart 3D, 2 pair Glasses and the Sony brand and it was a great deal!!
Got it home and it looks great. Haven't got into hooking it up to WiFi or looking at 3D, but seems great value for Foxtel and Digital TV.
Please don't tell me if you have picked it up cheaper:-;.

As mentioned this model is a lemon, it will drop further in price soon.
Dont listen to the radial banding BS. If you are going to spend all day watching a light colored blank screen all day- then fair enough go and spend double the price. But for 70" at 2k its a great deal.
Its not just the radial banding, go an look at one of these in store (and not on sponsored online reviews), the image quality of these is absolutely shit. So bad, that in Costco, they resorted to turning the thing off when it was next to the far superior Samsungs.
I bought the Sony 50" Smart TV 3 weeks ago and I'm really disappointed.
1. The sound quality isn't great.
2. It baffles me that they didn't think to display Media Files in their folders, rather than having to scroll through files just to get to what you want to watch.
3. If you do happen to finally find the file you want to play, SOMETIMES you will get an unsupported media type error which will show in the bottom right corner of the screen during the entire film.I'm looking at returning my TV. I bought it from a Sony Kiosk, so if anyone knows anything about the return policy please let me know! Looking at getting the 55" Samsung Smart TV.
Don't rely on the TV's own inbuilt media player. Dedicated media players devices would be much better every time. Couldn't you just buy a media player device like the WD TV for example. I'm sure the WD TV would play all your media files just fine and save you lots of trouble of having to go through a return process for a large screen TV. Also if the sound from the TVs own speakers isn't that good well that's what a home theater system is for.
I think that his point was you shouldn't have to fork out ~$100 for something that should already be included in the TV in 2015.
Oh well. The fact is it seems when it comes to some TVs you still need to. I guess if every modern TV had a super media player in it then there would be no need for a WD TV.
People who make media streamers have one focus, TV makers are working on many many things. I like the idea of having a good media streamer which I can use on any TV rather than being tied down to a TV because of a software feature.
Get a "dumb tv" and chromecast
Sound on this TV is very good as it basically has a built in sound bar. So the sound generally performs better than most slim TVS but obviously not as good as a hifi setup.
Sub woofer makes a huge difference
Amazing price. I remember when a TV like this would have easily been $10,000.
I remember when they were $70k. No joke.
Last 2008 I had started a job at Crown, and they took us on a tour of the fancy hotel room they only offer to millionaire gambling clients. It had a 16 seat round marble table, private kitchen, private bar, TVs that dropped form the ceiling in the bedrooms, and a 70inch TV in the main room that cost $70k at the time.

What about this 2008? :)
It had a 16 seat round marble table, private kitchen, private bar, TVs that dropped form the ceiling in the bedrooms, and a 70inch TV in the main room that cost $70k at the time.
That should be enough to convince gamblers that the house always wins!
Late 2008* :P
Those numbers might be slightly off. The floorplan shows a 12 seat table, the description says 10 seat. Description also says 72inch TV, but it could have been replaced in the last 6 years. Mind you the description could be wrong since it also says iPad's rather than iPads.

Go in and ask them what they will do one for??
It worked for me….. Take ur phone in and show them the photo of the receipt I attached.I printed it off and gave to him, he then asked the boss and said no worries
Well done mate……enjoy!!
how are you finding yours? any banding issue?
I'll pick up mine on the weekendGet the subwoofer which is pretty much made for this TV if you don't have a home theatre setup:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/182678Dirt cheap and will make a good sounding TV even better.
@leighzor: not a problem with mine. Let me know how you go.
Grabbed one in the boxing day sales from JB for $2,061 and have been happy with it so far. Of note the reviews suggested the 3D wasn't as good as other tvs and the smart functions aren't as good as Samsung or LG's. Neither feature was important to me as I use a media center PC but the smart features are IMPORTANT if you do use them a lot. Picture quality reviews basically said it depends on personal preference. Figured only spending 2k now and replacing it in a year or two was a better option than spending more than double for a similar sized 4k tv that doesn't have much content out yet and it seems OLED is the way of the future… I just hope it's affordable in large sizes by the time I replace this one.
Edit: Reviews mentioned it was great for gaming on too.price matched at JB HIFI Chatswood Westfield+2 years extended warranty+home delivery=$2113 in totoal. Great Deal. Thanks OP.
I would love this TV as well. I got a 60" TV PLASMA which I need to replace. I would like a LCD or LED TV.
The stand on this tv is on the sides not middle :( My TV stand/furniture is not wide enough for a 70" :(
The stand is adjustable and can be moved to the middle
Picked one up for $1800 with additional 3year warranty and home delivery plus two 3D blu-rays. Thanks OP.
Also picked up the matching subwoofer for $114 delivered from BingLee. I hate this website for making me poor lol
good deal, was gonna pull the trigger for $2k until I saw you comment, mind to share the invoice?
yeah same.. but didn't hurt to ask for a lower price. PM'd you.
wtuanmu, could you share your invoice with the deal you scored?
Could I grab a copy of your invoice too? Thanks! :)
@wtuanmu, I can't pm you cause I'm a new user but could you help me out too? Would love to get the tv and the savings would really help to me get the tv in time for the house warming! :D
its a great tv . Had mine for three months now. Its just a big assed tv thats cheap. I have NO issues with the screen quality. I DO agree that its smart TV functions seem a bit awkward and the 3D is useless (name one that isnt) I dont care about the smart TV so I havent tried too hard to understand it. If that matters I suggest asking for a demo to see whether it satisfies your requirements
24ms input lag. "Great!"
Any stocks in Melbourne ?
anyone manage to score this deal in the past few weeks? or is this a has been…..
I can't find this tv for 2k anymore :( 2.2k is the cheapest I've been quoted. Is that price still okay?

But is Sony good? Their products seem to always be overpriced for what they offer.
