Motorola Nexus 6 Smartphone 32GB Blue or White ~ $700 AUD Amazon France

470

Similar to previous deals but with new lower price.

Credit to these guys:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/174328 ($766) plasmapuff
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/179289 ($715) danj303

Amazon.fr has further reduced the price of the nexus 6 to by ~25 EUR to 559.90 EUR (both white and blue 32GB version).
After adding it to cart and choosing an AU address the VAT is removed making it 466.58 EUR + 15.24 EUR shipping.
Using google to work out the currency conversion, 481.82 EUR = $700.13 AUD.

The ~ 25 EUR discount to previous deal has been somewhat lost with the falling AUD, so this price only comes out $15 AUD cheaper to danj303's deal when posted.

This is the cheapest available that I am aware of.
(Kogan - $859 + 22.99 shipping = $881.99)
(Playstore - $869 + 15 = $884)

In stock.

amazon FRANCE… the distance ozbargainers are willing to travel for a bargain never ceases to amaze me

    • +7

      amaze, amazon, amazing

  • +2

RMA an issue????….really waiting to 64Gb this price :(

  • +8

Great deal - excellent phone that really suffers from the high price tag. I still have my $249 Nexus 4 from this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/114665 back in August 2013. I wish Google still priced at a 'value' point, rather than setting a crazy price tag of over $800. Vive la France!

    • +9

Totally agree. Won't be getting a Nexus 6 because of the ridiculous size and price tag… Also still have a Nexus 4 which is still going strong with Lollipop (Android v5.0.2). Hopefully the NEXT Nexus device is a more sensible price and size!

  • Is it worth $700?
Lots of good Chinese phones hitting the market in Q1.

    • +3

Not only that, but we have that Asus $200 smartphone which hits the same as $500 phones. Better value is guaranteed in the future, but if you always think that you'd still be stuck with your Nokia!

      • Michael, which ASUS model are you referring to? Thanks a lot!

        • +4

          The Asus Zenphone 2.
Quad core processor, 1080p screen, ips, 3000mAh battery, 13mp camera, flash, 2gb ram… it's got top specs for a low price.

          http://pocketnow.com/2015/01/29/zenfone-2-2

        • Thanks mate! Any suggestion where to buy from? You seem to be on top of things for the ASUS. Thanks again!

        • @econzune:
not out yet. But I assume when it's out you can buy it from grey importers like Kogan and DWI.

        • @clse945111:
4G? The CPU is as good?
I'm liking my G2G2, but there is a lot of competition coming…

        • @noone025: Still clinging on to my G2 as well. Bought the G3 but its been relinquished to the drawer as it constantly overheats and battery life is rubbish. Chuck on CyanogenMod, and you've got an awesome lollipop device with even better battery life! Is listed for US$209 ATM as a daily deal on eBay, absolute bargain.

        • @jackary:

Great price. If it were the 802T, I would buy it and return my refurb.

        • @noone025: I look forward to getting rid of my 802T. Has just caused headache after headache when flashing ROMs… Unless you plan on staying stock, the D80x would probably be your best bet! The one I linked to is the D800. That model is probably an exception, as I believe it misses out on the LTE frequency support of the major carriers.

        • @noone025:
Yes 4G, also 4GB ram as well. 1080p screen.
CPU is on par with Snapdragon 805.

@Michael15286: I doubt many people actually use Asus ZenFone 5. I bought one for my father because everyone said only good things about this sub $200 phone. My verdict(as well as my father) - you get what you pay for. Camera is the worst part. It's painfully slow to take a phone without using the booster(or whatever Asus calls it).

        • @motor89: Oh, that's fair enough. But when you can buy 3 or more of these phones for the price of one of the smartphone flagships, it makes sense value wise. Especially now that you can afford to upgrade every year.

Even so, I'm talking about the ZenFone 2, so it'll have an extra generation of budget technology in use. Part of the reason why they've managed to make it so cheap is because Intel is subsidizing their Intel mobile chips so they can enter the market.

        • @motor89:
It looks like they might be aiming at a more high-end market this time with the Zenfone 2. (The original Zenfones were for the lowend market from the very beginning, but looking at the specs of the 2nd gen… doesn't look like that anymore)

    • -4

why the down votes? coz Aussies can only mine and farm?

    • Where can one find info on them?

  • +3

Not a very good price for what it is in my opinion. It uses last-gen AMOLED technology, it's max brightness is around half of even budget LCD phones, it's pink at low brightness, it's colours are quite a bit off. Performance isn't great either with the encryption, the camera stinks, the battery life is below average. Even the design isn't great, sure it has a metal frame, but the back gets fingerprints and is super slippery. Honestly this easily could've passed as another budget Nexus, I thought the high price tag would fix all the issues but no. It's actually in my opinion worse all round than the Nexus 5. Really half-assed, feels like no one actually tested it for issues.

    • Have you actually got one yourself?

      • +2

I had a one week stint with one, and I'd echo his sentiment. Camera in particular is still definitely below average. Personally I don't think QHD displays are ready for phones, and the batteries definitely aren't. In this price segment I can't understand why you wouldn't jump on a Note 4, or if AOSP GOOGLE NOW is your thing, a Note 3 with a custom ROM and several hundred dollars change.

        • +1

          Interesting..

I've had mine for over a month now and would highly recommend it (if you want a large phone).

I've found the camera to generally be quite good, battery life more than acceptable and the screen to be very impressive (but yes pink at low brightness, but it does get very dark which is great at night).
Performance has been excellent and it just feels all round great to use. Lollipop experience is also very good.

        • @Woodyg22: And when you say these features are good, what are you comparing it to?

        • +1

@Woodyg22: Well, I can't really argue with you because I've never used one myself, but from LinusTechTips' and Erica Griffin's reviews, that's what I gathered.

        • @jackary:
Recent phone history: iPhone 4S, 5S, nexus 5, nexus 6.
So I can't say I've truely tried a Note 4 or any other similar flagships but I've had a play with them in stores as well as friends' (incl note 4 and iPhone 6).

Also fairly decent ideas from a tonne of MKBHD and others' videos.

        • @deanylev:
It is hard to know without owning every phone and using it every day, but I do like this one very much

Edit: I tend to watch a lot of youtube on my phone so stereo from facing speakers and a QHD display are big pros in my book!

        • @Woodyg22:
not sure if QHD is gonna help with that though… most videos are 720p and 1080p, watching them on a QHD screen would actually make the experience worse.

        • @clse945111:
Still makes for a good experience I think and most well made YouTube videos are 1080p and above, coming across quite a few that I can watch in 1440p :)

  • +1

So Nexus 5 was best bang for buck phone for a while… that doesnt seem to be the case with the 6. These will be selling like cow pies

    • You mean beef pie… right?

      • No… I meant cow pie
like a nice big steaming cow pie

    • There's actually a massive shortage… Supply issues, so hard to tell how popular they actually are

  • +2

Have been thinking, well fantasising, about this phone for the last few months, finally made the purchase, after days upon days of annoying the missus with random factoids. It should be delivered later this week, will report back after some intensive exploration… :p

And the missus? She's thrilled she has to stay home at await delivery ;)

  • +3

Haha, the price tag for Nexus 6 is so silly.

I used Nexus 4 for 2 years until it got stolen, and I'm currently using LG G2. Neither of them has had no performance problems at all, and I spent around half of the price of Nexus 6 for both of my Nexus 4 and LG G2.

    • +1

Bought the G2 last week, very nice for less than half the price (ebay).

      • Ye, what a bloody great phone for its price. Sucks that I picked a somewhat damaged 2nd hand though, because it has some scratches on its lens, but I can't really complain for $200.

  • +5

Nexus = iPhone in Android world now? It seems to position itself within the same price range.

    • +2

Google brand seems to be positioning itself as premium now.

    • Doesn't feel like a very Android-y price to me. I would have thought that - until something groundbreaking comes along - smart phones in 2015 may have reached that phase like conventional laptops where (other than responsiveness) most people don't actually need most of the price inflating features of higher models (of course battery life can always be improved).

It'll be interesting to see how the major brands respond over the next few years since I suppose there's more competition in no name mobiles than laptops.

  • Just be aware of any returns you may need to do! I have a Nexus 5 from Spain. Needed to get it looked at under warrenty recently. The arrangement in Spain is it's handled by LG directly. Called them up with some difficulty (language barrier and menu options) and they only do pick up of items inside Spain, no mailing option.
It's the risk of buying overseas.

  • Hey guys, how do you know if this phone is unlocked? Are all mobile phones sold in France unlocked?
    A genuine question. Thanks.

    • Sol3x: the model advertised is the international version 'XT1100' as can be seen in the q and a. It's also mentioned in the title that it is unlocked. Another thing to keep in mind is that the turbo charge will be the Euro version. The turbo charger isn't yet available in Au. It's not an issue for myself as I imagine it will be available soon.

      • Good morning FrugalShopper.
        Pardon my French. :)

I'm just browsing some other phones and wanting to know if they are unlocked.
        Much appreciated for your answer.

  • Guys I recommend you buy this one from google store. This phone has some manufacturing problems like back panel and burnt screen and there's a good chance you may want to replace it. I bought one from google store and mine had the back panel out of place I'm waiting 2 weeks now for the replacement.

    • I jsut got it from the Google Play store also good advise i think as mentioned Burn In problems it would be difficult getting it fixed.

      Regards,

      Adrian
