I've been looking at getting one of these for last week or so. I believe their RRP is $299.00 (which I think is too steep), although the cheapest I've found up until now was $270.60 at TigersDirect (plus shipping). JB Hi-Fi has these for $241.00 both in store and online. If you purchase it online it costs $11.72 postage.
I thought opening your TIVO automatically voided your warranty.

if they have warranty void stickers, then yeh. But if anything went wrong, just remove the hard drive, flash the firmware (if required) and then call them up…
It should be noted, this is essentially a 1TB external HDD.
It's virtually the same as any other 1TB eSATA drive, which are fairly easy to get around the $150 mark.
I have now changed two TiVoHD drives to a 1TB drive and there are no "warranty void" seals you break. I have also read on the TiVo forums that people who have put their original drive back in for warranty repairs with no problems. I guess TiVo could probably see the drive change when it connects to their server for guide data.
For a $200 saving, I took the risk!
If you are prepared to open up your TiVo, you can put a 1TB WD Green drive in for under $100. You don't break any warranty seals doing this and it is an easy job, Google it. Otherwise $241 for a retail drive is the best price I have seen it for.
