70

Also available as a single Steady rack for $69.95 with free shipping (RRP $99 plus shipping)
http://www.tbe.com.au/products/steadyrack-steadyrack-wall-mo…

I have been looking at these for a while now but could not bring myself to spend $100 each.
4 of these would set you back $405 shipped from the Steadyrack website, but TBE have 4 for $250 shipped.
I had not used TBE before, so I waited until I received these before posting the deal.
Now these are installed and I have gained an extra 30-40cm in my carport by swiveling the bikes sideways.
Possibly gained a bit more space as I have figured i can have my rear view mirror under the handle bars of my bike, gaining me another 10cm.
I can now fit a second car in my carport after parking on the street for 2 years, so I am very happy.

Seems a lot considering wall mount bike-hooks are as little as $10 at hardware shops or online bike shops.
This one may be easier for disabled people to use? But if one cannot lift a bike, a floor-stand may be preferable.

Swivel is nice if you are tight for space, and cannot use a ceiling hook.

    e.g. http://www.bunnings.com.au/romak-bicycle-hanger-hook_p261001…

    • There are a lot of cheap options around, including just leaning your bike against a wall :)
The benefit for these is that you can set them up to not have to lift your bike as you can just push it on.
But, the main benefit for me is that this swivels the bike sideways and this clears up a lot of space.
If space is an issue, then these are a great solution.

I was previously using the Bunnings style and the Steadyrack has gained be 30 - 40 cms of space.
It does not sound like much, but it is enough for me to now have my 2 cars and the bikes in my car port.

    • These are only suitable for your expensive MTBs. Hooks can potentially damage the frame or wheels hence they are are only worth 10bucks

      • Agree, the hooks are not the best. The steady rack rests the whole wheel reducing the chance of issues. The only thing the Steadyrack may not like is fenders and mudguards.

How is a bike hook going to damage the wheel? It loads them in a similar way to riding, but much smaller force. Some people naively imagine that is somehow stresses the wheel.
It is the floor-racks that are a problem, applying lateral forces. Hanging is much better.

The claims on this don't quite add up. How can you swivel it if the bike's rear wheel is not lifted?

        • The bike does lift slightly when you push it in. http://www.steadyrack.com/videos/
Hanging is generally fine, but can be an issue with some rims especially the newer carbon fiber wheels.

        • @deal88:
Ah well, you only have to look at carbon-fibre the wrong way and it breaks.

Its a beautiful design, just not so bargainy to me :)

        • @manic:
Yep. I am an engineer and i still don't fully trust my carbon fibre bike.

Apparently there is also an issue with some of the suspension forks leaking if hooked up, but i am not aware of the specifics on this issue.
