Do good guys do installation? Preferably on the one invoice.

    • +1

Says this at the bottom of the page on their website - I think they do!

A new air conditioner is a breeze with The Good Guys installation service. We can deliver, install, and set up the new air conditioner for you.

    • They do, although they just use some local company, with extra charges for brackets, 90 degree corners, etc.

Also, they may be busy at the moment, so ask first.

      • I called my local (Castle Hill) and waited 2 hours for a call back. As above they just use a local guy. My quote was $580 + $115 to install on 2nd level. I will shop around :)

        • +6

that is bloody cheap, i paid around 4 years ago, second level $740 (yes installation only)

        • @bti_jet: It may be! I have browsed some whirlpool forums where people have gotten them installed for around the $400 mark.

It just doesn't feel right spending more on installation than the actual product!

        • +1

          @bti_jet:
I've had a quote for $4000 to install two 2.5kw in Mt Isa :/

        • +1

          @zapzap1:

the ac i bought was 1200, installation was cheaper than product but still a rip off in my eyes. Considering it only takes 2hrs to install.

anything under $300 for an install in my eyes is a bargain

        • +1

@bti_jet: I think it's the copper pipe that costs them the most.. That stuff is expensive! But $740 is a bit steep!

        • +1

          @zapzap1:

i went to 3 different places and got same quotes, in the end got over trying to find a cheaper quote.

If i had to do another install i will do it myself

  • I know masters used to stock these. Might be worth checking if they will price beat, then further 7.5% discount by paying with discounted big w wish cards.

    • +3

The cash back is good guys specific!

  • +5

not a bad price but multiple air con service people I have spoken to say dont buy Samsung AC, get a japan brand (even if not made in Japan) they say they are better than Samsung, work better and last longer.

    • +2

a mate of mine (an installer) said the same thing. The piPes crack and the gas leaks. He doesn't mind most brands, but suggests steering clear of Samsung.

    • +2

I've heard most air con units should last at least 10 years, as long as they are installed by a competent installer, so no leaking gas, etc.

The installer I used said they were all much the same nowadays, which is what the TGG store guy said too, the specs are all very similar too.

Daiken are regarded highly, but I couldn't find an installed with availability within 2 months and Daiken are not sold in any stores. Bear in mind most installers will want you to buy the most profitable unit they sell, not the best value you can buy ;-)

      • They " should " last but that doesn't mean they will or do.
The air con companies I spoke to didn't supply air cons they were service and installers. Both said steer clear of Samsung, they didn't care what other brand just to buy a Japanese barns - panasonic Mitsubishi or Fujitsu for easy to get brands that are good and reliable.

    • +1

      Agreed

  • +1

How much to install this badboy I need one for my unit living room

    • How from electrical supply, spare fuse available, inside unit nearby the outside unit, brackets needed, all cost extra, $450-$750 depending.

      • These smaller units do not require a separate fuse and can be safely and legally wired to your nearest existing power point.

    • I called my local (Castle Hill) and waited 2 hours for a call back. As above they just use a local guy. My quote was $580 + $115 to install on 2nd level. I will shop around :)

    • +1

It's the smallest sized air con you can buy. You must have a tiny living room. Recheck what size you should buy to suit. (Panasonic has a calculator)

      • Yep. Plenty of online calculators that allow you to put in your room dimensions and other factors and they tell you the size you need.
Not a bargain if you get the wrong size for your needs, it will just cost you more money in the long run.

  • anyone know the cost of installation?

    • It all depends on where you want to put it.
i.e. is it against an perimeter wall, how far to ground. and other pipes or electrical wiring in the way, single or double brick walls etc
A rough guess about $400 or more.

Also I believe this compressor unit has a 10 year guarantee while most (all) other brands have 5 years..

This also has built in Wi-Fi and you can control and program with an iOS or Android app.

In saying that, Samsung isnt the best brand around the best brands are Daiken and Fujistu.

      • I agree, the best brands are daikin and fujitsu. No one quoting $115 to install an air conditioner would be touching my house. Sounds like a recipe for rubbish quality.

        • +2

I think you misread the costs: "My quote was $580 + $115 to install on 2nd level." which I take to mean $580 for ground floor plus an extra $115- for 2nd level.

        • @theguru1:
You are correct, I misread it sorry.

    • +2

      The average is about $600

  • +1

I got my aircon installed 9 months back and it was around 700 bucks

  • -1

    Put plus postage in title..
    AU $44.06 for me

    • +3

Postage could be different for everyone and most people would pick it up I would think!

    • Postage via Good Guys official website was $10. Sydney metro.

  • +3

    Great deal, thanks OP.

I bought the same model, I think, about a month ago, ~$950, with 15% cash back. WiFi is handy, even just to cool bedroom 10 minutes before going up. Was installed for $450 via a local guy. Was more expensive via TGG installers, slower too.

Works well, quiet at night, it can show usage which is good to know, very efficient once the afternoon sun passes the inverter.

    • Can you tell me if the width of this system is what they say it is?

What I mean the the part of the a/c that goes against the wall is that 90cm? Sometimes the measure the width of the front and the back part is smaller

      Could you measure for me?

  • Can you do pick up?

Also is there a limit to how many a/c you can have installed on a house? I don't have ducted but I alrasdy have 3 split a/c and I'm wanting this one for my lounge room

2.5 should be ok for the lounge room??

    • There are a lot of things that will have a factor on the right size AC for a particular room, but generally a 2.5 is a more suitable bedroom size and is probably too small for a lounge room, but as i say it depends on your particular setup.
If it's a room that isn't much bigger than a medium sized bedroom and can be closed in easily enough then yes it's probably ok, otherwise i'd go to at least the next size up.

    • +1

Unless your lounge is small and completely enclosed ( not open plan in any way) then this is way to small. We have a 7.1 kw for our lounge area and it is just right.

    • Way too small for a loungeroom, it's a bedroom sized air con.

  • +1

Wish I could afford one and the install costs. I've suffered through summer for years without one, hate it.

    • Buy a portable aircon, no installation fee.

      • +4

I had one before, they are a pain in the ass and take up too much space and are not very effective. My room is small enough without adding one of those again.

      • Costs so much in electricity, it's ridiculous. Try and find an energy rating for one.

    • +1

I'm in the same boat - just moved to Western Sydney and my bedroom is on the top level.. 9pm at night it's still about 30 Degree's in my room. I have a fan but it's ridiculous! Can't wait to get this installed!

    • Wish I could afford one and the install costs.

      Get a window aircon.
Or buy a vacuum pump off ebay. It comes with detailed install instructions.
      http://manuals.appliancesonline.com.au/F-AR09FSSSCWK1/f-ar09…

Sadly, so few people have basic plumbing skills these days. (you'll need to cut and flare the pipe.)
Yes it voids warranty, but with install costing more than the unit, so what?

      • +3

Watch that link if you are on a phone 16mb pdf.

  • +2

    https://www.energex.com.au/residential-and-business/positive…

Don't forget if in QLD you can get $150 back from energex if its installed with the peaksmart meter (applies to alot of brands, not just samsung)

Don't know if Samsung comes with the required parts or the installer has to supply extra.

    • With this energex can then turn the air con off when they say it is peak use ie really hot days etc. I would rather not and then have the ac when I want it on.

      • +1

        No.

They load cycle, so cut the supply down to either 75% or 50% power, which means that your air con wont achieve the temperature that you have set for it. It still runs, but it only gets a certain supply. In emergency situations (e.g. bushfires, power plant shutdown) they will cycle to 0% power but the temperature would be the least of my worries then.

I had this put on 3 split systems at my last place, and it was only activated for 2-3 days (and only 1-2 hours each) in 2 years. The only way I knew that it had been activated is that the power light kept blinking, and I had to pull out the user manual to find out. My 'out' was that if it did get put down to 50% or less, if I turned on all 3 splits then the house would still have been cool.

The way it works is that you have to apply directly to Energex to get the signal receiver, which the electrician will wire in-line with each split system.

  • +1

If it is not a 'Sammy', I'd love to buy it. All my Sammy's appliances die within 3 years. My sister in law's (living in China) sammy fridge even fire in the middle of the night. Since then, I told myself not to buy Sammy's product anymore but still bought a washing machine because of the special… and now I am struggling with a dancing washing machine.

    • +2

Your comment reminded me of this washing machine dancing psytrance: http://youtu.be/50CMhnsz4DU

    • +2

Had a Samsung fridge fail after a year as well. Repaired twice. Not sure about their appliances. TV seem ok though.

    • +2

Same with my four. So cross. Samsung a/cs are so off my list. My Panasonic is still performing strongly. Based on my experience and of others, would strongly recommend stay well clear so them.

    • +2

Agree. Samsung can only make phone and TV.

    • +1

People never learn to stay away from Samsung home appliance trash. As above, they can only do phones and TV's. Anyone who buys this air con better save their receipts for the inevitable warranty claim.

  • +2

I got this aircon 2 months ago when TGG had 20% off ebay sale. It was $700 after discount plus 15% off Samsung rebate. The installation cost me another $350. It performs average I wound say. I wound recon Japanese brand more like Panasonic or dalkin

    • +3

      You have an amazing wound

    • +1

Yep, choose a Japanese brand not lg or Samsung for air con

    • how did you get such cheap installation?

  • Bear in mind that each split systems has a standby consumption when not operating which can add $$ when not in use. My Fujitsu measures around 60 watts/hour. Turning off at the circuit breaker is not recommended due to potential damage to the outside unit.

    • I was going to call bullcrap on this but it seems you may well be right. I can understand some power used for the oil heater and electronics but would never have imagined it was that high, not consistently anyway (in some other models it's even worse).

      :-(

    • What happens if you move out and the house is vacant, power and gas get disconnected?

      • Gas will have no effect whatsoever.

Basically the Oil in the compressor must be at the correct viscosity and the units will often have a heater in them to maintain this. If you turn it off at the switch and then turn it back on in the middle of winter and turn it on straight away the Oil is cold (ie thick) as the heater won't have been working and you potentially cause damage to the unit.
Less likely to be an issue in Summer in most places of Australia for obvious reasons.

The other issue with turning the power off is electronic stress. Over time turning electronics ( generally the power supply part of electronics) off and on again will weaken them and they will give way, Often when the electricity is rushing in to power everything again after being switched off - think of it like opening a floodgate on a dam, if you open it completely very quickly the water will knock anything weakly designed over very quickly. Switching an isolator or breaker off and on is much like that floodgate to electronics and can be just as destructive.

        • seems odd as the power co's encourage you to fit them to controlled loads like t33 in Qld which usually goes off at least once a day for a couple of hours

        • @mauricem:
Yeah but that is usually to things like electric hot water systems which have no electronics, or at best very basic electronics.
You would never fit an airconditioner to one of those tarriffs as it would basically never be available to use when you needed it the most..

    • +1

What damage to the outside unit? As long as you turn on the circuit breaker again and give it few hours before using it, you won't have any issue. The only issue will be if you turn it off at the circuit breaker and then turn it on and try and use it straight away.

  • Is there anything Samsung doesn't make these days?

  • +1

    Condoms?

  • +1

Just bought two for my new house build! Thanks!

FYI you only get one claim per customer (includes address and name) so if I knew I would have made two orders, meh.

Also, there are only 33 claims left out of 1500 so you need to do this quickly.

    • No Prob! Generally if you think it's a good deal you press the + button. Makes me feel all warm and gooey on the inside! :)

  • +2

If anyone is looking for a wonderful and really really quiet airconditioner, then this is a good choice: http://appliancecentral.com.au/shop/index.php?route=product/…

It was $740 before christmas though, seems it's now $800.. Mum has that in her room and the quiet option on it is almost unbelievable. It has been running smoothly for years now. On the quiet setting, there isn't really even a fan noise, it's like the cool air just pours out of it.

Anyway, my samsung airconditioners (not the model pictured though) are still within warranty, but they constantly drips like mad in the summer, its like the pipe freezes up or something after its been on for a while. The installation is fine, so it seems there's some kind of fault in the design, the one in my brothers room does the same thing, although currently it is broken because a chip on it blew or something and has been without one for many months waiting on a repair.

Samsung have said they won't replace any of them, even though it's within warranty… They never replace the full unit apparently, just parts, even if it is a defective piece of crap that drips water all over my computer every summer. It almost broke my monitor but luckily it started working after I dried it out. The samsung service guy literally said to me yesterday "it's just the bad design of the air conditioner".

edit: right now as i type my air conditioner has 8 water droplets hanging off it waiting to hit my desk. I hope for everyone's sake that samsung have fixed this problem for the model on sale.

    • Did you get them to install the unit too?

      How's the installation lead time?

  • Not that I want you all to panic, but there are ONLY 9 (NINE) vouchers left to claim.
    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/BonusOfferListView?catalogId=3…
[2/3rds of the way down the page]

    Edit: EIGHT?! EIGHT!! 8!

    • 2 now… and the stupid stores are closed now….

      Bugger!

      edit: now 1…

        • Yeah i already got one, but no docket numbers to redeem with.

Annoyed i have missed it but it was already a decent price for the unit and I ended up with free delivery to my door anyway, supposedly they will deliver them tomorrow (parents got 1 also)

        • +1

@raydragon: Refer to my post below, call up Good Guys on 1300 466 348 and they'll sort it out for you, assuming it's an online order.

Delivery for me was $10 so.. LOL.

        • +1

          @astroe:
Wow, i was able to get through and i literally got the last one.. shame i can't get the 2nd one for the one my parents ordered as well but happy to even get the one.

          Thanks for your help astroe!!!!

Sorry anyone else who was trying :-)

        • Glad to hear it! I've been a bit risky though, installation wasn't factored in so it's a bit of a gamble as to how much that will cost. :(

        • @astroe:

Yes installation on these things can be a killer, anywhere from 400-600 or more unless you know someone who can help, Thankfully i do so it won't be quite as nasty. :-P

OP: Might as well mark this deal as expired, although even at $699 it's a good price for this unit, cheapest i can find anywhere.

        • No idea how the OP got a quote for $115. My local store (where the delivery will come from) isn't Castle Hill either. :(

Edit, ohhh I've misread that. $580 for install? Oh well.

        • how did you get free delivery?

        • @samehada:

Was basically by accident. My local store had none in stock so i chose the next nearest one that did have stock and then rang them and asked for it to be transferred to my local store. The staff member then said there would be a delivery fee for them (which i was fine with as long as it wasn't going to be excessive) but then when she went to process it she found it came up as free delivery (to my place not the store) through some sort of promotion and it will even supposedly be delivered today on the public holiday.. can't argue with that :-)

  • I've just bought online, paid with credit card, it cleared and it returned with an order number. Order number didn't work with the claim form so I called up the central Good Guys line and the guy on the phone was awesome enough to manually process the claim for me rather than having me wait for the system to process to spit out the right number. Top bloke! :)

  • Wow, features Full HD filter with s-plasma ioniser, how cool is that?

  • Mark as expired then if all the rebates are claimed?

    • +1

I also need to know - please confirm why it's marked expired

      • +1

plasmappuff wasn't asking why it's expired, he was stating it should be marked as expired because at the time of his post the deal was still listed as active.
It is, however, now correctly marked as expired because all 1500 cashback cards have been claimed via the goodguys website.

        • Indeed.

I was weighing it up all day but then it expired before I could jump on it.

Probably for the best though as I would need a 3.5-5k unit for the lounge room.

Please post a deal if you find one for the bigger units :)

        • +1

          @plasmapuff:
it's a shame actually, the Good guys price for the 3.5kw Samsung unit is still quite decent and if the redemption was still available it would have been hard to beat.
Having said that I have found that airconditioners are like a lot of other appliances/whitegoods, they are generally pretty easy to price match so you may be able to find someone who would give you a comparable price including the redemption value.

  • We have the next size up and also the largest unit. Both great air cons and work fine. Wifi Is difficult to setup.

  • +2

Just my 2cents after the fact. We got this air con a few months ago through Harvey Normal. Cost $800 I think but had $100 efpos card and Samsang Tab4 tablet by redemption. Installation was about $680 on 2nd level including $25 PeakSmart meter (so $150 Energex rebate as well)
We have 4 air conditioners in the house and this unit is easily the best. Quiet and very efficient. Perfect for our child's bedroom.

    • +1

Good to know! Looking at getting mine installed on the 2nd level also :)

  • +2

Sigh, I ordered three of these at $773 a couple of weeks ago. The fact it's done via eBay and a cashback also makes me not able to claim it on my credit card's price protection insurance policy.

Oh well, as for the units themselves we're fairly happy with them. Only used them four or five times since they were installed a bit over a week ago — but in each instance it's seems to effectively brought the temperature of the room to whatever we've asked for.

My parents got the 5kW version of the unit about six weeks ago and they've been happy with it.

When powered on, it displays the room's current temperature in a large blue LCD display which I find kinda cool so you can see it actually changing the temperature of the room as it's operating (although I've seen online reviews from others saying it's distracting, so YMMV).

Energy rating seems decent for units in the ball-pack of 2.5kW.

One of the main reasons I got it was for the built-in WiFi, although our experience with it in reality is fairly mediocre.

You can access it via an Android/iPhone app in one of two modes "In house" or "Out of house". When using "In house" mode and your phone is connected to the same WiFi as the air con, your phone is able to automatically detect air cons present on the network and provides you a way to control it (along with seeing the current temperature of the room) and it basically works as advertised.

The ability to control it using a phone is somewhat disconnected from how you can control it using its standard remote control. For example, if you power on the device using the remote control and turn it off using your phone the remote control has no idea this has occurred and still displays it as 'on'. This becomes even more confusing if you set the temperature using the remote then change it using your phone as the temperature the remote says it's programmed to won't actually be accurate. Both the remote and the phone have the ability to set timers to automatically power the device on or off after x hours, but if you read into it the manual says both of these are independent timers, so you can set one timer using the remote and another using the phone app simultaneously. The manual describes this as a feature, although I'd probably call it more confusing than anything else.

The "Out of house" mode is supposed to allow you to access it remotely via 3G or somewhere else on the Internet. We've never been able to get this to work. You're supposed to register the device at www.samsungsmartappliance.com, however the registration process appears broken. You're supposed to login to the website using a Samsung account, enter the serial number of the device and power the air con on to associate the device with your account, but in reality it just shows a spinning wheel telling you to 'turn your device on now' even though it's already powered on. After about 5 mins it times out and says the association failed. I have the same problem with all three of my air conditioners, and on top of that my parents have the same problem with their 5kW unit. I've tried with many different browsers and multiple different Internet connections without any effect.

I looked at my router and can see that all three air cons have an established HTTPS connection active between itself and some Samsung IP address in Korea, so I know it's speaking to their webservers, so no idea what the problem is.

I called the Samsung 1800 support number and the guy who took the call seemed fairly uninterested in my problem (I suspect his calls are usually questions around the air conditioning itself, and not around WiFi). He asked me what speed my Internet connection was and I said "around 8 Megabits" and he said "oh, that will be your problem, you need at least a 20 Megabits connection for it to work". For those who don't know, to stream a High Definition movie requires a speed of about 5 Megabits, so he effectively said these devices need to be able to stream the equivalent of 4 HD movies simultaneously for it to function, which is beyond absurd. I don't know if that's really in their script or if he was trying to get me off the phone using 'technobabble' hoping that I would be none the wiser. He later admitted he got a call from another person reporting a similar problem a couple of weeks ago, so I don't know if that means it's broken for everyone or not (I couldn't even guess as to how many people buy Samsung smart air cons, try and complete the online activation process and care enough to call the 1800 number to complain).

I eventually convinced him to escalate the issue as my parent's Internet connection is >20 Megabits, but I got the feeling like this is probably not ever going to be resolved, they just didn't care for issues outside the "is the air conditioner cooling the room?" type problems. That was about a week ago and I've not heard from them since.

The app is also supposed to be able to tell you how much power the device is consuming and graphs it on a day/week/month basis which I would find fairly useful — although it doesn't seem to work in reality and all the graphs are just empty despite the units being turned on in the past. I don't know how this feature is supposed to work, so it's possible it records the power consumption using the online website rather than the air con itself, so when/if I get the 'out of home' thing working this may or may not be corrected.

    • Didnt you know about TGG 30days price guarantee? Even so there were other ways to get part of the difference back if you could be bothered to do it.

    • Good info! Looking forward to getting mine installed :)
