Olympus PEN E-PL5 14-42mm Kit $250 @ JB Hi-Fi

160

Olympus PEN E-PL5 is a great little camera. Although it is an old model, it has a 16MP sensor which is still current.

JB HiFi is current doing 15% off on this heavily discounted model. Very limited stock. $294 with 15% off is $250 only.

Not available online, only in store

  • crappy lens but at that price, who cares?!

  • I read the epl 7 is huge improvement

  • Where to buy?

  • I think Melbourne Bourke Street and Elizabeth Street still have stock.

    • Thanks.

  • You can call the store to find out. I checked Glen Waverley and Knox City store yesterday and was told that they are out of stock but there are still small amount of stock at the Melbourne Bourke Street and Elizabeth store. Interestingly, these two shop do not even have the camera on display, that could be why they still has stock as not one is aware of the low price.

I ended up getting on at the Elizabeth Street store at lunch time and they still have a few at the back.

  • Picked up the last one in Woden, incredible deal THANKS OP

  • Went to JB Hi-Fi Parramatta, NSW to buy it this morning. Ended up buying Olympus OM-D E-M1 with M.Zuiko 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 ED EZ Lens for 997.05 after 15% discount. It was listed as discontinued model in the shop. Not sure how much stock is there. Closest price I could find is from Digidirect for $1269.00.

  • Checked in JB Hi-Fi Carindale, suburban Brisbane. There was one on display with a label saying Special $310, not $294. If the 15% discount applied, that would make it $263.50, not $250. The time being Saturday afternoon and the shop being crowded, I was not inclined to make inquiries.

  • Got one from Westfield Sydney.. not sure if anymore left but there's one still on display.

Handling seems pretty bad.. grip is awful. Sony NEX so far feels a lot more refined and lighter to boot

  • Hi Thraw,
Handling is not the best for OM PEN E-PL camera due to small size but it is still a very good camera packed with features and super fast AF. At that price i think no camera can beat it, i would never pay the normal price however. I also got a OM-D E-M1 but the E-PL5 is a nice little camera that i can carry with me all the time.

    • hi BW, im reading that the axis stabilization (aka IBIS) is not very good in epl5?

  • Yes erwinsie, you are right, the IBIS for E-PL5 is only 2 axis while the newer E-PL7 and EM-10 has 3 axis. I used to have a E-PL3 a few years ago and didn't find any problem with 2 axis IBIS, that said the newer 3 axis or the best 5 asis in EM-5 and EM-1 are better but you pay a lot more for the newer or better feature. I have no complain with 2 axis stabiliser.
