Are these better than Logitec speakers

    • +5

      lolwut

    • +3

      I hope you're just trolling… :)

    • +11

If size is your priority, then no. These will look and sound horrible on your desk.

  • +1

Jason, throw in a centre speaker and you have a deal.

    • +2

This is a fair comment if you plan a 5/7.1 setup. Your center speaker should be matches with your L/R speaker so they all produce the same/very similar sounds. If you dont match them it can very easily sound off and never quite right.

If you plan on a 2.0 setup for music you're golden though.

      • +4

Speaker matching is a little overrated imo. I've known of great floor standers that had terrible respective centre speakers. Any reciever allows alterations to individual speaker settings, to say that not matching brands / series very easily sounds off is deceiving and I disagree. It's actually something I hear more out of the mouths of salesman, rarely audiophiles / enthusiasts.

        • +1

Agree 100%, I matched/mixed my VERY old Jamo D365 stereo fronts (used in a 5.1 set up), with a Tannoy Centre (can't remember the model number… not at home ATM), Reviews 10-12 years ago, gave the Tannoy a really good review for it's sound reproduction (as a centre, eg voice reproduction). When I saw it and heard it, I bought it, and love it.
I am however now looking (very patiently) for a good deal on an even better centre, perhaps a B&W or KEF (when you are or have a partner who is hard of hearing, you appreciate a centre speaker, specially a good one).

        • @RightplaceRontime:
I've had the B&W 603's below since 1999 (insurance replacement after burglary) - still have the original boxes for when I move house, with the NZ$1,999 RRP price sticker. Been very happy with them. Paired with a B&W CC3 center and some B&W bookshelf rears.

          http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/review/bowers_wilkins/dm603_…

        • reciever allows alterations …

If you're going in that direction, then buying "large" speaker is a waste of money. Audyssy's recommendation is to use "small" with bass redirection.

    http://floor-standing-speakers.toptenreviews.com/klipsch-rf-…

9th best out of 10 speakers reviewed. Ouch!

I find that the bass of cheap floorstanders often sounds bad and an equivalently prices bookshelf speaker sounds much tighter even if the frequency range is less. Better nothing than bad sound. Plus you can always add a subwoofer at a later date if you want more bass.

    • +4

At $1100 there might be a couple more choices. But at $499 a pair you won't find better speakers…..period.

      • -4

        $499 per speaker or pair?

        • +17

Did you read the comment you replied to?

        • +12

@chrism238: Yes, but when you click on the link it says "Klipsch RF42 II Floor Standing Theater Speaker, Horn Loaded" Note it says speaker (singular), and only shows a picture of 1 speaker. Some places sell speakers as single units so if you want a pair you have to order 2. It wouldn't hurt if they mentioned they were a pair just like this listing on Amazon to remove any ambiguity.

      • Considering RRP for these speakers is $1099 this comment is a somewhat contradictory don't you think?

      • Tell Paul to discount the Wharfedale EVOs

        • Actually, the EVO range of speakers are almost half price at the moment. Only a few pairs left. Which model were you looking at?

    • 9th best out of 10 speakers reviewed. Ouch!

I don't think it means 9th best. It's a score out of 10, which 9 is very good.

      • No, if you read the review, it does mean 9th out of 10th place.

    • +2

I can't comment on this specific model but I bought the Klipsch RF52 II speakers (also from Rio) and on the whole I'm very happy with them. Driving them with a Pioneer SCLX57 amp and the two make an awesome combination. The stereo imaging is not as good as some (I've heard horn-based tweeters have this problem) but the clarity and depth is pretty damn good. They pull out remarkably low bass in movies with the very low frequencies.

From the specs the 42's don't go as low (59Hz rather than 36Hz) but I'd expect the overall quality of sound and construction would be otherwise pretty similar. If I didn't have the 52's already I'd be sorely tempted by these.

      • Tophorus has made a very good point.

He is powering his speakers with a very good amp (Pioneer SCLX57) IMO is one of the best for its price point.
So if you get these speakers, consider a very good amp.

In relation to RIO having free delivery, there is an option for delivery insurance which imposes a fee which is highly recommended.
I forgot how much they charge.

        Cheers

        • Paypal is a payment option. You don't need to purchase insurance because it's the sellers responsibility to ensure you receive your order brand new, in full working condition, and without damage, otherwise you can raise a paypal claim.

        • I have purchased items online @ Rio and there is an option for insurance, but then I have purchased this via CC & Not PayPal.

Free delivery is standard but not delivery insurance.

The store rep is welcome to comment.

      "The Verdict:
      9/10

Klipsch is a big name in the audio world, but for us, these entry-level floor standing speakers fall short of the competition."

What does that mean: everything else got a 10/10 ? I dind't bother reading much else but you said it scored 9th best out of 10.

      Terrible review site LEL.

      • -1

The site, called top ten reviews, rated these speakers 9/10 BECAUSE THEY ARE THE NINTH BEST SPEAKER.

So, they're not very good (according to the review).

Eyes man. Use them. (unless you're blind or have some crippling disease that has taken your sight from you, in which case I'm very sorry for you, but Braille man. Use that instead.)

    • I have a set of Monitor Audio Radius R270's which appear to be a similar configuration and frequency response. I believe that a quality system, limited to 60Hz will give a clean, crisp, but ultimately thin-ish musical experience, and that adding a good sub may be needed. For me, adding a quality sub-woofer and setting the crossover at 80Hz produced a very satisfying sound.

  • -1

Before I place the order I'd appreciate a clarification - is it indeed 2 reference speakers for the $499 or a single unit?

    Thanks Rep.

  • -1

    each? or pair?

    • +1

      Pair for $499 (2 speakers)

  • +2

499 for pair + central speaker will get me

    • +1

+1 I'm in if a centre speaker is included

      • I have been using 2 speakers for years, never found a need for a centre speaker.

        • The only reason why a centre speaker is useful is that almost every movie is mixed in 5.1 or 7.1 and the dialogue is sent through the centre. Separating the dialogue from music and sound effects can improve the clarity.

        • If your amp is in stereo mode it will send all the sound to the 2 speakers.

      • Yep me too, include centre please rep!

    • +3

will a $1 chinese clone logitec central speaker bonus get U to buy?

    • i'm in too if its + centre

    • +4

The bloke is ignoring you for a reason. FOS.

  • +2

Any recommendation of receiver? U need a receiver for these speakers, right?

    • +8

if you don't know this already, you shouldn't be buying these imo

      • Where was the Aaron ATS 5 from @$700

      • +7

He can still ask, we weren't all born knowing everything, we all started at zero knowledge.

    • +2

inusure, yes you do. hard to make recommendations. As I have stated on other posts, in the past, you need to get something decent to supply the power to drive speakers like these. Ask Jason (OP), he'll recommend s'thing then look around for the best price. IMO Onkyo make very decent and reasonably priced Receivers, Marantz and Denon next.

    • Hi,

IMO, the cost of a good receiver to drive these speakers will be more expensive than the speakers itself.
The Klipsch RMS wattage rating IMO is very close and more realistic than other brands.
I mean that although it states 75W RMS, you need a good clean amp.

Under-powering will distort and possibly damage the speakers.

I would recommend a Pioneer 2xxx amp if you decide to buy through RIO.
      That is, ~ $1K amp.

      Cheers

      • vinni, Agree on the cost of a receiver, when you get into 'reference' grade speakers etc. You are making commitment to spend 'good' money in good sound.
I recommend looking at the Onkyo receivers, they got a good deal at Selby, this for example (http://www.selby.com.au/electronics/receivers-and-amplifiers…). admitted, not the best but a good price for the level it is, as in compared to other receivers around $500.00, I am quite sure they had the Onkyo TX-NR838, for around $1200.00 last month, that would be my pick.

        • Hi ozf1,

The Onkyo is jam packed for that price and I think it's a good match if you don't want to spend too much.
In relation to Selby's ad, I think that they have made a boo boo and should to update/omit the "Audyssey MultEQ® XT32/Dynamic Volume®"
I looked at the original specs and it doesn't state that. The XT32 room correction are on the top of the line Onkyo/Integra/Marantz SR7008/7009 models.

I wonder if it has HDMI 2.0 as I cannot see so I assume its an older model as I don't know too much about Onkyo.

          Cheers

  • -2

which one is better, this or the aaron at5 deal?

edit: looks like this is for 1 piece only, so its $1000 for a pair, aaron was $700 for a pair last month, almost bought it…

    • +2

      "… But at $499 a pair you won't find better speakers…..period."

Just quoting what the store rep said in his post above. He seems to be saying it's $499 for a PAIR.

    • +1

Aaron ATS 5 @$700 is this special still on and where?

      • I saw Miranda HiFi in Canberra had ATS 5 (pair) on special last month for $799. Price matched with local store in Melbourne.

  • amazon
    239 for each

    • Come again?

  • Great reviews, but wondering why most of them are US buyers (purchased via amazon), not one from one of us…

    • Their site just pulls the reviews from Amazon. Thats not a bad thing (I use Amazon reviews to gauge a purchase), it's just why most will be US buyers.

  • -4

Can I get a refund if the sound isn't as good as the reviews mentioned?

  • I'm in too if centre is included for $499. Heck - I'll pick them up myself!

    • Same. You need the centre because all fronts must match. Otherwise its an incomplete system.

      • +2

        It's not incomplete. Your incomplete.

      • +3

Rubbish. If you truly think this, go get yourself something from BOSE, it will satisfy your needs.

      • +5

Incomplete? All music is recorded in stereo (2 speakers) no centre needed.
The imaging from a good pair of speakers can almost negate the need for a centre speaker.

        • +1

I am sure undertaker is thinking solely of 5.1/7.1 Home theater sound set up. Not stereo and/or music sound reproduction, hence his comment of being 'incomplete'. He forgot the rear L&R and Subwoofer.

      • -1

You need the centre because all fronts must match. Otherwise its an incomplete system.

This comment is so misleading it hurts me.

        • Look up Timbre matching. In a 5.1 or 7.1 setup, your front stage should all match. Have to laugh how a pair of these floor standing speakers are $499 but if I want to buy the RC42 II centre it costs $399. Not everyone uses speakers for listening to music.

        • +1

@undertaker149: IMO, you have to have a very discernible ear to appreciate the difference in regards to having the same timbre (a trained ear almost).
This is where you get into real acoustic questions, things like, sound proofing, floor surfaces, furniture in the room.
It's not incomplete if you are using these as how they are being sold- a pair of 'stereo speakers'.

        • +1

These are stereo speakers. Two speakers = complete. And like ozf1 said, there are whole host of things you need to think about first before you consider whether the timbre of your front speakers match perfectly.

        • The two channels acoustically add to make the center, and there is no real loss of having no center speaker. Many amplifiers have the option to have the surround decoder have the center speaker configured in place or not. In fact, for mono sound, having a center with these amps often activates the center only and does not use the stereo channels (which I reckon for mono - is a less satisfying experience).

IMO, rears can be less powerful and not necessarily full frequency range - they add to an "immersive" experience, even if they are at a low level. Because they are at a lower level the importance of matching the fronts is reduced. I think these front speakers could be the start of a good system, but that a good sub-woofer would be the first addition.

  • Can I ask which would be a better speaker this out the Aaron ATS5?

    • This :)

  • JasonRio can you give us a deal on a pair of RF-7 II.

    • Im happy to! But not on OB. Give me a call at the store and i can work out a great deal for you.

  • +1

Seriously, I'm surprised the reps bother to comment at all once they post a deal… It's a great deal as it is, stop being unreasonable or the deals from rio may dry up all together.

    • +1

Good call Marto, all these guys seem to want is more, more, more. The rep comes with a good deal with free postage and you want him to throw in extras like centre speaker. The business needs to make some money.

  • How is this compare to the Synergy F-20? I have a pair of F-20 with Onkyo 608 receiver. I found the F-20 is lack of bass. It's quite ok when watching movies but horrible when listening to music.

    • The Synergy series is a lower end model in the Klipsch range. Usually sold through Harvey Norman and other bulk retailers. The Reference II series sound MUCH better than the synergy speakers.

      • Hi Jason,

Isn't the Klipsch SW115 part of the "Synergy" series that you (& Harvey Norman) sell?

        Regards

  • wow. that's good price Rep.
Does anybody how does this speaker perform head to head with Pioneer FS52 (floorstander) ?

I remember back then, I didn't like Klipsch range, because it's quite harsh on the high freq.
For RF42, I also read it's better to jump to the next range, RF52. (if you have the $)

Looking at this price, RF42 seems good for entry level.

  • -4

rep pls confirm if 499 for a pair…

    • +1

      he already did confirm

  • Great price,,, many thanks to the rep. Decisions decisions.

  • This is a SENSATIONAL deal! I love klipsch and if I wasnt happy with my current speakers (and broke) I would jump on it.

  • Uh oh. Sorry, we can’t find the page you’re looking for.
edit: found manually on the website.. so tempting..

  • +1
  • Extremely tempted. Confused why there's a massive difference in RRP when compared to Amazon, which is where I purchase most items, in particular PC parts. Still deciding….

  • I'm gonna go for a pair, all I have to do next is to wait out for a great deal on a proper receiver. What receiver do you recommend around $500 mark Jason?

  • If you are interested, jump on these! It's likely that these speakers are current stock when the dollar was stronger - any new stock for most USA speaker brands is likely to cost retailer more / less savings passed due to the USD vs AUD.

    • Correct. THe entire Klipsch range (and many other brnds) will be going up by 10% - 15% in the next month or so due to the low aussie $.

    • Hiya, Have a look at the Pioneer VSX-824. Usually $800 selling for $519 this week.

  • Hi Jason,
I don't know much about speakers. Would you be kind enough to tell me if I can connect your side speakers to the 'Yamaha portable PA system stagepas 150M'?

  • I'm comparing these with the Q Acoustics 2050i for $799
How do they compare? Is it woth the extra $300 for the Q Acoustics?

  • I'm looking to get these speakers but unsure about my receiver. I'm currently using Pioneer Vsx S300. Is it powerful enough?

  • +1

    Where are these speakers made?

  • So i just bought a pair…. about to stat building a house with a theatre room, these will be perfect fronts :)
    Thanks OP!

  • I'm a total sound noob… So please don't hurt me. But if I retired my old z5500 sound system and got these instead plus the pioneer amp the rep was talking about….. How much of an upgrade would these be? It would start as a 2.0 system…

    • I recommend looking at the Onkyo receivers, they got a good deal at Selby, this for example (http://www.selby.com.au/electronics/receivers-and-amplifiers…). admittedly, not 'the best' but a good price for the level it is, when compared to other receivers around $500.00.
I am quite sure they had the Onkyo TX-NR838, for around $1200.00 last month, that would be my pick(currently around $1800.00).

BTW, I am not associated with Selby ( I specify that, as I keep recommending them, I should be though, and they should pay me. I 've sent a lot of business to them from family and friends, we've all purchased sound and cables from them). Why, because they have quality at good prices.

    • Link was broken TXNR52 for $486 (RRP $849.00).
      http://www.selby.com.au/electronics/receivers-and-amplifiers…

  • Why did it shows up as $1099 instead of $499
