no deal for Brisbane City Council

    Only eastern suburbs Sydney

  • I've just ordered the worm farm from Botany Council in Sydney

    Worm farm : $38.96
    1000 worms : $24.55
    Total : $63.50

If anyone get the compost bin please post the price

    • Bin Eco master 300 for $33.95
      Revolver compost aerator $15.95
      Free delivery

    • Worm farm, same for Bankstown - $63.50. (If I were you, I would just go to Bunnings or Masters for a compost bin!)

Considering Canterbury Council were giving them to Rate-payers a few years back, not much of a bargain eh??

The payment will be made to "Compost Revolution"….not to Council!

I would say that this Company has offered to Council a source of revenue, where they don't have to do anything, to get a commission, but to agree to give the Company credentials to sell under their auspices.

Doing nothing, looking like they ARE doing something and supporting "the green culture" ….right up Council's street!!!

Especially Bankstown Council…..which I would nominate as one of the laziest and most incompetent in NSW, if not Australia….the council that managed to burn most of their building records in the 90's.

  • +1

I've looked at both Masters and Bunnings and you could pay $138 for a similar worm farm.

Tried 14 Victorian councils, and it simply says "Ask Your Council To Join", with a pre-written email you can send.

Only $25% discount with Ku-Ring-Gai council.
    $49 for stationary compost bin
    $25 for aerator thingy

Prefer the ones in tumblers. They seem easier.

You're able to set the delivery for a complete different state (order from Wyndham City to GC), would it go through?

    Nope…

We have one of these from a past council offer. Not as big or as quite good (IMO) as Can O Worms, but fine for the price. Worm farms are such a great idea, and sooooo easy. We have two plus four compost bins and I think the worm farms are so much quicker at 'digesting' kitchen scraps. We keep our bins mostly for garden waste now. Unlike the bins though, make sure you keep the worm farm in the shade.

  • how much waste can the worm farm take one?

Any idea on how much vegetable waste this can process?
We juice carrots a lot. I assume the moist pulp would be great for this?

    • +1

The speed of processing (and therefore amount of waste) will depend on the number of worms, the temperature (slower in winter) and the type of waste you give them. Our farms are well established and I can hardly keep up with their voracious appetites! And yes, pulp from juice making is perfect.

    • +1

Just do I we do and bury the scraps. I dig say a 30-40cm hole with the shovel, throw in a bucket worth and bury it. A week or two later it's heavily decomposed and the ground flattens out. By the time we do areas around the vege patch, the original hole has fully decomposed. The soil has significantly improved.

If you're doing it heaps, then dig a trench and fill in from one side to another.

If you're doing it rarely, keep in a bucket with a lid at the bottom of the garden, the lid keeps the animals away.

      • Move over, Peter Cundall, we've got a new badass gardener in the joint!

chicks dig gardeners…. right guys? … right?

        • Nothing turns them on more than manure, blood and bone, decomposition and worms.

City of Sydney hosts Worm Farming and Composting workshop. "City of Sydney residents will receive a FREE worm farm or compost bin upon completion of the workshop."

    • +1

City of Sydney have always been proactive in these areas. I've been to the workshop and got the free worm farm - reduces waste by up to 2/3rds - so must be a saving for the council in the long run and haven't bought potting mix for years.

  • Is this limited to VIC? I don't see any SA councils on the list.

    Hi there,

Dave from Revolution Apps here (we're the folks behind the Compost Revolution online platform).

Thanks to everyone who has shown interest in the Compost Revolution. It's fantastic to see so many people keen to recycle their food scraps!

To claim the bigger discounts (they range from 25 % off RRP through to FREE!) you do need to be in a specific council area for that council's deal to apply. The council's won't approve your order if you don't live there sorry.

HOWEVER, if you find that your council is not yet a member you don't have to wait! You can take advantage of our direct to resident 25 % off RRP offer.

Visit our Compost Revolution Australia-wide site to take the tutorial and claim 25 % off RRP on all products. As a special Oz bargains offer we'll charge the lowest metro delivery price (at cost from Aust Post) no matter where you are (saving $10+ in regional areas).

Thanks for supporting the revolution OzBargains! Any questions just ask!

    • Hi Dave,

Just wondering how do you find out the price without going to the collection point. Also I accidentally did the compost bin quiz but selected worm farm as the "prize" now the email says compost bin and the "prize" says worm farm. So which will it be?

      Thank you.

  • Not in Wollongong. I already have a stack of worm farm, where to find cheap worms?

    • +1

I've had trouble finding worms. Sometimes you can find them on gumtree, but they tend to be about the same price as you can find at Bunnings.

I've decided to use black soldier fly grubs for composting in my worm bin. Very fast and can stand higher temperatures than worms, but you need to attract the egg-laying female first. They are good if you're looking to reduce your waste, but not so good if you want to have compost for your garden.

http://blacksoldierflyblog.com/ and their forum are a good resource.

      • Thanks for the info. Would be mainly for the garden, $80+ for 1000 worms in bunnings is pretty expensive imo.

        • Hi Mily - Visit our Australia-wide shop directly and you can order 1,000 live worms for $38.95 + $14 delivery. (please note we're shipping worms from Feb 1 this year to give them a much needed summer holiday so will take a few weeks to arrive).

Does someone actually sit there and count 1000 worms? What if one dies on delivery? Is that classified as DOA? Humorous questions :P

    • +1

Good question! And the answer is surprisingly YES! Well they did it once, then you just need to weigh the amount to match that first 1,000 worm audit as they consist of the same density.

If worms die en masse on delivery we'll replace the lot however this is very rare (we care about our worms, they are the foot soldiers of the revolution after-all!). We have had no reports of any individual deaths from our worms as of yet so we can only assume all make it safely or none do. It's all for one and one for all in the worm army.

      • +1

You are THE BEST! Just for answering that! +9000

      • I'm glad you said this and it's on record, because your promo says if the worms die in transit you have to pay for a new lot!.
By the way, how do advise when the delivery is due…for us working stiffs who might not be home when the little wrigglers arrive??

        • +1

          My pleasure!

Re: Delivery. If you're not there Australia Post will leave a slip and our system will email you just to be sure you get the news. You then just drop into your local post office first thing the next day.

To clarify the dead worms policy though … You must collect your worms from the Post Office the very next day (presuming you weren't home to sign for the delivery). if you don't and they die then that's at your expense. Of course it isn't definitely going to happen but depending on the weather and other factors and how long you leave them there it becomes increasingly uncomfortable for the little guys. If we deliver them to your door (you need to be there to sign for them) and you open them immediately and they are dead just send us photo evidence on that day that we delivered dead worms to you and we will replace them free of charge. (which is what i was referring to above)

This has only happened once in thousands of deliveries though because we (a) use Australia Post to get you your worms fast and (b) don't send them out during heat waves. We also pack them carefully to ensure they are insulated and have plenty to eat while in transit. It's not just the cost associated with replacing them of course; they are living creatures who do an amazing job at keeping us alive across the planet (feeding the Earth that feeds us as Costa says) so they deserve our respect and duty of care. They travel VIP across the country through Compost Revolution.

        • Hey Compost Revolution..tar for that.

Just to salve my morbid curiosity you are a contractor for several Councils no? You have an overarching Company…. Revolution Apps with registrations for Food Lovers Republic and Compost Revolution….How did you get Councils moving on this project an how do the different entities fit into the picture?

Do you think "worms" or "bees" are more important to the ecological structure?….maybe that should be the your next project "Bee hives for the backyard"!?
