This is a bargain! Considering that a few inches more would be in the 4-5k+, great deal!

not a bargain at all, 42' jus hd plasma not full hd panel, unknown brand. it go with a jb hi fi soniq plasma with the same specs at $799 before id go with this or pay a little bit more for a brand name.

Do you mean this one = $896?,, because I can't find what you're describing on the JB website
From what I've seen, $900 seems to be the price for no/low name, 42", 768line, HD tuner, LCD or Plasma TVs.
Anyone with a better deal please take one step forward with hyperlink in hand…

      • If you were that keen on a plasma of this ilk, (although FWIW I don't think the specs represent value for money on either of these units), I honestly think you'd have little difficultly indeed bargaining JB staff down to $799 on that model; especially if you point out that a better spec'd set can be purchased for not much more than ticket price! ;)

A lot of buyers forget the ball's in their court ATM! :)

  • ok i did actually, the price has risen a little bit. anyways, save your money and buy a brand name everyone. peace of mind.

    • Yes, quite possibly sage advice.
For myself, I'd buy from a shopfront if considering a cheapie.
The 3yr warranty on this puppy is a plus…

  • I wouldn't get this, plasma's in general can be pretty poor quality, getting a low end plasma isn't a good idea.

Its strange because last year you could get these for $700-800 at JB.

I would get an LCD instead.

Please research before you post false information. I am not saying this deal is a bargain but Plamas in general have better contrast ratio, colour and overall image quality. Plasma quality is what LCD panels manufacturers are trying to achieve. Downside of plasma screens are the high cost, low lifespan compared with LCDs and also they only come at sizes around 42" and above.

Well viper, I see where samfisher is coming from, the majority of plasma's are utter rubbish. Of course you have your premium units like the Panasonic but when you take a look at what's on the market today, you find tonnes of these generic sub $1000 units with 1024x768 res.

Lifespan is more or less the same with plasma and LCD now anyway, supposed HL is about 60k hours.

The only decent plasma around these days comes from Panasonic, LG do some decent ones and Samsung's are OK, but with Pioneer out of the picture most people end up going for LCD anyway.

        • Yup sorry I should have been more clear.

Unless you get a premium expensive plasma you will most likely be disappointed compared to an LCD.

While plasmas can have better contrast image quality etc I find most of them very poor if you want something cheap. And once those cheaper ones get older they are even worse!

Since most of us aren't rich and want a bargain its better to get an LCD, especially because of the much lower power usage.

  • nothing to see keep on moving

Fail on the resolution. Expected more for $900 to be honest.

The only plasma panels available @ 42" are either 1024x768 or 1920x1080.

You need to go to a 50" plasma to get 1366x768 which is much better than 1024x768 (since it atleast fits a 720p image without losing any pixels)
