      1280 x 720 = 921,600 pixels.

Why do you want more megapixies?

(But I agree that it will be a cheap cheap sensor.)

  • If it's for the kids, go for it. If you actually think you'll get good video, save yourself.

I went scuba diving with some guys who had one and laughed about my GoPro costing 20 times the amount. I let them go and was curious to see the footage afterwards. They got a copy of my video after seeing theirs.
Complete joke. The only amazing part was the stupid thing didn't leak at 20m underwater.

Sample video I found on youtube.

As expected, the image detail is poor and dynamic range is pretty bad - the highlights are completely blown out. But it's $19 - which is a bargain.

I don't know why people are expecting it to be as good as a GoPro. It's like saying, don't buy a $20k Toyota Corolla because it's not as fast as a $400k Lambo.

  • Any thoughts on whether this would be suitable as a cheap dash or bike cam?

    • No. Resolution to low to read plates.

    • It is a suitable very cheap dash/bike cam - much better than no cam at all.

Quality/fast exposure change/clarity/sharpness won't be as great as the better more expensive cameras, and as PainToad says, you probably won't be able to make out number plates - but it'll record events, like someone cutting you off/pulling out on you; your light was green; you were stopped and they reversed into you. When it's your word against their's, and they're lying, it could be the best $19 you've spent.

      Youtube search for examples.

Then, when you buy something that performs drastically better, you can point this out the back window.

      • Another perspective. A shithead is more likely to break into your car to steal this thinking it's GoPro.

Good as an undercarriage action cam when you go 4WD off-road. No regrets when it gets smashed accidentally. Put a few around your truck.
