Ah yes, "lifetime" map updates that only last a year or so till they discontinue the model and replace it with one exactly the same, just a slightly different model number.
Yeah? How does this work? I'm looking at upgrading my 4 year old GPS (which you cant update the maps without $$$), I'm really attracted to the option of updating maps as I'll probably have the new one for a good number of years.
It's for the 'lifetime' of the product.
If they stop making it and mark it as EOL, no more updates! It's a way of marketing that people assume 'lifetime' means 'for life/for ever', when it's nothing even like that. Especially with electronics and how often they change/are updated.
So you could buy this, and in 3 months they could mark it as EOL and you're stuck with something with 'lifetime' updates but you only got 3 months of updates out of it, so might not even get one update depending on how often the updates come out.
My Garmin, years old now, still free updates just fine.
Here's an alternative: Nokia's Here Maps, on your Android phone.
- You just download the free app on your phone,
- Download the Australia map (through the app, for free),
- Use the map it for navigation. You can do this offline (unlike Google Maps, which requires you to be connected).

Oh yes, that's true.
What I meant is, with Nokia's Here Maps, you can save the whole map of Australia. Google Maps only allows you to save small parts of it.
Google Maps: "The maximum size for the area you can download is 50km x 50km. If you try to save an area bigger than that, you'll be asked to zoom in to a smaller area."
Got Here maps on my android phone now and it is brilliant. 100% free and no screwing around with internet connectivity problems. Dedicated sat nav never gets used, this is much better.
Sygic is also good for anyone wanting off line gps on their android phone.
Good price but how does it compare to TomTom similar price models?
Is the price difference between the Move and Ezy the 5" v 5.5"?
Or is the Ezy better spec? They both have pros, the 55LM Looks like it has live traffic updates and SD Slot though
I was thinking of buying one of these navigators on special(to replace a dead 2008 model) but decided to use a Nokia Lumia 530 as my occasional GPS unit(among other uses e.g. mp3 player.)
It only cost me $40 and has comprehensive turn by turn voice navigation powered by 100% free Here+maps, albeit on a 4" display and perhaps a few less features found on a dedicated GPS. Obviously, if you need a rock solid daily workhorse navigator then definitely buy a dedicated unit.
Just some food for thought.Could you please advise if it supports offline map ? I mainly use my Iphone as GPS. Works well in metro area, however when I travel to the area not covered by 3G/4G , it become useless. Thus I am thinking to get a traditional GPS.
Yes. You can download the maps for offline use. I use this exclusively. Also handy when traveling abroad because you can download maps for different regions/countries.
Go to the Here website.. https://www.here.com/abouthere/?lang=en-EN
You install the entire country's maps to your phone… no need for internet connection to use gps. Works just like a regular car gps then. Thanks a lot , I was holding the Move 50 GPS with me when I read this post. Put it back once I saw it
Saved more money now
@gifox:
Great to hear… more money for bargains now :-)
That sounds like a good alternative. BTW, how do you find the frequency of updates on Here+maps, wolfenator87? Cheers!
Haven't been using long enough to say but frequently enough so far. Always new updates available and far easier than connecting a GPS to a computer.
Does anyone know if it has live traffic support?
The website says optional Live taffic updates for the Move50 (Whatever that means :0)
here is info

I bought move 50 after using Tomtom for years because it was on cheap deal with free maps. However, it's routes and options are not that smart like tomtom. So my personal suggestion based on my experience with both is to get tomtom instead of navman.
I Have 2 tomtoms I got free with a purchase from somewhere and they are not good, an older model but it still never worked properly
About to go on a NZ holiday and the camper van company charges a ridiculous $10/day for GPS hire - Move 50 comes with a NZ map so pays for itself in less than a week! Great deal, thanks OP!
Is anyone buying any of the Braven speakers?
Decent gps haven't one already but paid $99 months ago.
