Microsoft Wireless 800 Keyboard & Mouse $3.95 - after $16 Cashback- ($2.95 with O'works Pricematch) @ Computer Alliance - BNE

1170

Paid only $18.95 @ Officeworks (price match -5%) this am , which is pretty good alone. BUT, with Microsoft's Cashback, should work out at $2.95 (plus cost of postage stamp) .
Methinks not bad! However, I'm having trouble finding the Cashback link on Microsoft's Site . Any help?

That's only useful if you live local to Mt Gravatt QLD otherwise postage is $16. Alternatively, go to Bing Lee for $19 or can price match Officeworks with the Bing Lee price. http://www.binglee.com.au/microsoft-2lf-00020-wireless-deskt…

    • Too quick. $1.10 that way

    • Just bought a couple at Officeworks - priced matched for $17.05 so after $16 cashback will end up costing $1.05. Not to shabby!

      • Where's $18.95?

        • in NSW I meant. OW are usually picky on how close the competitor is.

      • Could you please post the officeworks invoice? Thank you!

    • isn't there $5 flat shipping?

      • Bing Lee - Free Pickup In-Store

        • so i can get a price match on store pickup? also, what state are you in? and do you have a bing lee near you?

        • @Bearinator:
          Yes.

          Find nearest store via http://www.binglee.com.au/stores

In NSW. Store nearby. Don't need a keyboard though.

        • @Steptoe:
i'm guessing they won't price match a bing lee store 137 km from me?

  • Cash back amount is specifically mentioned as per each Product's RRP. So would MS provide cash back only for RRP purchased products?

    http://microsoft.com.au/cashback/Home/Terms
Sku (old) Sku (new) RRP Cashback
    Universal Mobile Keyboard P2Z-00028 $99.95 $40.00

Cash back is the amount stated by Microsoft, regardless of the purchase price. So it may be possible to get more cash back than what you paid.

Just make sure you read the terms from Microsoft and follow them exactly.

    • +1

Nah - doesn't matter how much you get it for, they give you the cashback regardless ;)

  • MSY are selling these for $20 at the moment too - $16 cash back = $4 !!

  • Can you price match http://www.computeralliance.com.au/ with Office Works?

    • If they are close by to that Officeworks.

Too bad it's wireless - much prefer wired :(

    • not as good a deal, but there are plenty of other items with cashback ie http://www.computeralliance.com.au/microsoft-wired-600-deskt…

You're not going to be gaming or doing graphic design with a $15 mouse and keyboard; for ordinary office use or web surfing, the MS Wireless 800 is more than adequate and indeed preferred, for a cluttered workstation.

Concerns about the sensor or the wireless receiver on very cheap mice/KB sets are valid (you can physically see the input lag with some of them), but having used this set for a year, I can't say it's that cheap and nasty that it's going to affect ordinary desktop usage.

The keyboard has a very small footprint but full-sized keys and weighs nothing, which is also good for driving a HTPC hooked up to a 40-60" TV from your couch.

      • @Amar89 What do you recommend is a good mouse for graphic design for Windows? I have tried the touch one of Microsoft but for some reason side scrolling don't work on indesign or illustrator.

        • I can't say I do much graphic design myself (have tried a lot); but I dabble with CAD stuff a lot (mainly Autodesk), which has the same kind of demands for accurate and precise drawing input.

CAD guys seem to belong to two camps when it comes input devices: the trackball side (i.e. Logitech M570) and the gaming mouse side (i.e. Razer Mamba, Saitek R.A.T. 9, Logitech G700S, etc).

If we're talking strictly "productivity"-type mice (as to opposed to gaming mice), I'd say the Logitech MX Revolution is pretty popular and has plenty of built-in productivity features. The M560 and M510 are also well-received.

The Microsoft Sculpt, Arc and Touch series mice have the most bizarre arches and shapes, designed from what I can tell for couch-based or otherwise "casual" contexts, and I cannot fathom how anyone can find them comfortable. The scroll wheels are also incredibly flimsy with no defined tactile feedback or scrolling indents.

Personally for me, the issue is not whether it's gaming/office-specific or feature-sets but sensors and connectivity.

Wired, optical mice still provide the best kind of sensor responsiveness and jitter-free movement for me, as most, if not all laser sensors have hardware-based acceleration you cannot eliminate and wireless RF receivers, despite having come along way, still have perceivable input lag for me.

Computer alliance have the best price, have a rep on here yet the thread is about price matching them elsewhere to save a buck. That price match won't be around in the future when all the competition is gone. But hey you saved a buck now right?

  • Sincere thanks to Dunky, kurt & syba for posting link to Microsoft's Cashback. Good to see that multiple purchases (up to 3 items) are OK for Cashback , and only a scan of receipt is required. Beats the old days of mailing in receipts. I'm still waiting for Microsoft's promised email with link. I got onto their on-line chat & was promised an email with link - still nothing from them!

    my maths tells me 40% off $20 = $12

    • Cash back states it's 40% off RRP.

So either it's worded to be misleading and there are other conditions (quite likely) or it's a genuine offer or it's a mistake. I wouldn't be buying 100 of these and trying it on to find out….but you could always take a punt with a $20 item. You still get it quite cheap.

  • -3

people above are saying $4 after cash back on a $20 RRP…not by my reading of the terms

I tried multiple MS wireless keyboard mouse set including this one, they all need to put the receiver next to it otherwise can't use

    • That's bull.

I've been using this set for a year and it works up to 5 metres away from the receiver (probably even further, I've just never tried).

      • I used 2 sets of 800 and 2 sets off 2000, for many different computers, plus numerous client's set, all have the same problem. But many peoples assume it's battery no good causing the lag effect, yes they think it works because still working, but actually put it up to desk with extension cable fixed that.

what make you think that you got a "good" set then the others's comment is bull shit?

        • I personally haven't had this problem. I currently use the Wireless Mouse 1000* and the receiver is about 1m away. I've also used both on my Android TV stick while sitting about 2-3m away from the TV and not having any issues.

One thing worth mentioning though is that the battery life on the mouse sucks donkey balls.

*thought it was Wireless Mouse 800, it's actually Wireless Mouse 800 (the keyboard is Wireless Keyboard 800 IIRC)

        • @ausmechkeyboards:

That's alright, finally time to put all those Eneloops to good use!

        • @ausmechkeyboards:

One thing worth mentioning though is that the battery life on the mouse sucks donkey balls.

Again, I beg to differ here. Still using the batteries from the original box on the keyboard and the mouse's have only been changed once in over a year.

        • @Amar89:

I have to change mine almost once a month :/

        • @ausmechkeyboards: I don't see your reply is relate to my comment. I have two MS mouse, and tried couple other models, no problem either, but nothing relay to this set.

    • I use this keyboard and mouse in my HTPC and I sit back maybe three meters from the PC on my chair.

    • Thanks OP. Got one from price match today. I have two Logitech MK220 and one Microsoft wireless 800 and they all work without issues at home. Batteries last for months. Considering they are all 2.4GHz different homes will have different environment (I used to have a corless phone from Aldi and it caused issues.)

Looks like most people do not have the issue about the operating range from the receiver. If it does not work as described you can return and get refund.

  • How do I email a receipt of an online purchase where there is no physical receipt to scan?
Do I just printscreen the confirmation email that I get when I buy from one of the sites?

    • You should get a Tax Invoice with the goods or emailed to you.

  • +1

are you sure they are not using http://www.microsoft.com.au/cashback/ items as examples of 40% off. To good to be true. Might need more clarification.

Nah mate - it's for real.

They have this deal every year, and every year I score free / cheap stuff ;)

      • confirmed then…let the buying begin

  • So could I just go to my local Officeworks and price match this store, even though I live no where near it?

    • support small business mate.

      • I don't live near this store unfortunately.

  • Got one of these for pretty much the same price two years ago. It works fine but don't like the concave style of the keyboard. And also, swapping batteries is bit tricky as it's really hard to get them out of the mouse.

  • Postage is $99 for me

    • What postcode did you enter? I'll see if that can be fixed up.

      • 2190
EDIT: tried again, seems to be fixed, $16 now

Does anyone know a store in Syd that stocks the Xbox 360 wireless controller (with the receiver) that I can price match against? The postage on the PLE deal is holding me back at the moment. Cheers.

Officework guy told me that they can do pricematch but on Website Price + Delivery price … how to get them to beat Website price only?

    Thanks

  • @Honest John- how do you get price match $18.95? aren't you being charged for shipping? called ow and they said it's $16 shipping, so they only offer around a dollar off.

    • Hi Bearinator, I'm in Briz, so no problem with price-match at my local O'wks.

      • but didn't your OW say that shipping wasn't included?

Well looks like I'm going crazy at MSY tomorrow.

  • Careful, I bought two of this,
one in 2013, not reliable and did not work properly, specially the mouse was bouncing around the screen, very annoying, thought its because of my system configuration, but was the same with my other systems, thought this one had issues so bought another in 2014, exactly the same.
    refunded both.
    so no, thank you.

  • I wonder how many people will have a whinge over price-matching, trying to save $1.00.

  • +1

it's been a year? my set from last year is still unopened!

  • I think I got this from Officeworks last time around, for $15 and thought it was an awesome buy! lol was I wrong batteries only just needed to be replaced last week! so impressed with that

  • Can i buy multiple amounts and still be able to redeem cash back? Should i need to put it on separate receipts?

    • Would like to understand this myself,
made the mistake of purchasing 2 on 1 receipt.
not sure if I need to submit the receipt twice or they will actually look at the details in the receipt and provide cash back for both.
There is no entry field on the form that allows you to specify quantity.

      edit: just found this,
"Your 40% cash back will be deposited to your specified bank account within 60 days. For help redeeming your 40% cash back, please call 1800 233 033 between 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, or email [email protected]."

      Will call and check tomorrow.

      • Called them….

you need to submit a claim for each unit, if multiple units on same receipt then need to submit multiple claims using the same receipt.

  • It says "Please choose if this order is for you personally, or if you are ordering on behalf of a company" from https://www.computeralliance.com.au.

I am a web designer with broken keyboard and mice to replace with - I am running a personal business, so am I "personally" or "ordering on behalf of a company"?

I also noticed ABN is required https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/175625 I have ABN but there is no place for me to fill it in on the order form. Does it mean that I should not fill ABN on the order form, but on the redemption form?

This Computer Alliance requires me to fill "Attention to", where I filled my name, and it says "'Attention to' cannot be your Company Name", while since I run a sole trader business, my business name is exactly my name - I can fool it with my name followed by a single white space, but should I do that? Does 'attention to' have any other meaning?

    Thanks!

I have LG smart TV. model 60LM9600. Are the keyboard & mice compatible?

  • Tks guys, I just scored 2 of these at officeworks in Mel… $18.05 each (-$16 cash back = $2 :) )

PS: Just in case the guys from the store don't want to give you the "computer alliance" deal, here is another…

    BingLee $19
    http://www.binglee.com.au/microsoft-2lf-00020-wireless-deskt…

    Otherwise…

    CPL $23 (still cheap)
    http://www.cplonline.com.au/microsoft-wireless-desktop-800.h…

Cheers and Merry Christmas everybody !!!

    • Bing Lee says they are out of stock in Moore Park for anyone that's interested.

  • Typing this on my brand new keyboard! Great bargain!

  • Office works phone line (1300 OFFICE) say they wont price match from their listed price of $36 due to the cashback offer! Shame! Any suggestions on how to tackle that? My closest is the Five Dock/Parramatta Rd store. Bing Lee for $19 are out of stock as of yesterday….

  • Bought my wireless 800 from msy elizabeth today

I then realized when I put my claim in i that i can do up to 3 claims

In the spirit of ozbargain I'm off to MSY again tomorrow and grab another 2

  • re prev post (2 up) - went to Officeworks anyway in Five Dock .. realised that the Vic and Qld offers I'd printed would be no use in Syd unless it also catered for shipping.. so he took me to a PC and found a Sydney retailer that had it in stock just so I could take up the price match ($38 in OW, $20 at MSY Auburn) .. so walked out with 3 for ~$57 (incl 5% price match) Very happy with that.. 1 for me, 2 for gifts, and done very cheaply.

Then take off the $16 per unit.. Nice!

  • Bought a couple from MSY for $20. Been using for a few days and pleasantly surprised with the performance

  • Anyone find the small function keys annoying?

  • Who can I use to price match with at Officeworks?

The Bing Lee offer looks like it is out of stock so Officeworks will probably refuse to match .. And rightly so.

  • MSY have put price up to $22.00, so now a net $6.
The 2000 key board at $32 with $24 back (net $8 ) is probably a better buy for $2 net extra.

The small Function keys are very annoying.

  • Thanks OP, got it price match at JB hifi!!
