  • Anyone know how to make it run at 100hz?

I have it hooked up to my computer via HDMI, but max refresh rate it will let me choose is 60hz.

Also, I can't figure out how to make it fill up the entire screen. I have black borders all around the image essentially giving me a viewable area that of a 48" TV. Changing 'Aspect Ratio' didn't help :(

    • +1

Most consumer TVs (espcially cheaper brands like TCL) are not truly 100/200hz or whatever they claim to be. They use a feature called motion interpolation to add in extra frames to appear smoother. This however is bad for games or anything requiring fast input as it adds processing time.

      Read more here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2042444

      • Thanks for the info

    • hmm that's interesting.. panorama didn't help?

      • Panorama actually made the image smaller :(

        • that is a bit of a worry for those wanting to hook up their PCs/laptops

tried VGA (shudders) or graphics card driver settings?

        • +1

@CVonV: Just tried VGA. Fills up the entire screen and actually looks a lot better than the downscaled image with HDMI.

Will play around with driver settings see if anything works.

        • +1

@CVonV: Thanks for the driver setting suggestion. Got it set up perfectly now via HDMI :)

What worked for me was setting the aspect ratio to Panorama and changing scaling from it's default value of 8% down to 0% in AMD Catalyst Control Center

        • @kamoi:

          excellent news!

        • @kamoi: Does your Panorama setting save after powering off and on your TV? Every setting I have changed saves except the 'aspect ratio' setting which reverts back to '16:9'.

        • @noonoo12: Nope. I have to change it every time. Very annoying.

        • @kamoi:

Damn. Everything but Panorama saves for me but I guess it's fine since you can just change the scaling with your AMD GPU :). I'm using an Intel NUC that has no scaling options. :(

        • @noonoo12: The scaling options from the GPU control center only helped with getting it to display right using Panorama :(

With the default 16:9 I can get the image fill the entire screen perfect horizontally, but there is still some black bars (3-4 lines each) on the top and bottom of the screen.

Also, 16:9 doesn't display correct with my PS4 either so I have to always set it to Panorama with that as well.

I sure hope there will be a firmware update soon.

        • sure hope there will be a firmware update soon.

Lol, I'm still waiting for a firmware update for my 2002 DivX player.

        • @muncan: Is your 2002 DivX player a TCL?

  • Would also much appreciate a $25 voucher :)

Damn mailinator only keeps email for 24hrs :(

  • Hi can someone please send me the $25 voucher as well? Thanks in advance

  • +1

Happy TCL day everyone. I got one of these, picture is pretty damn good IMO although they buzz a little when turned on. Easy way to fix this is to either switch to dynamic picture mode or use any other mode and make sure the backlight is set to '100'. if it's lower than 100 it buzzes. Great buy. Better than my old 32inc
    h Panasonic LCD

  • Can anyone confirm the available inputs on this one?

Reading through it looks to be hdmi and vga but wondering if someone can confirm if is has old composite as well?

  • Thanks OP.
Does anyone know if this has PIP Mode ( Picture in Picture) ?? Would be handy during school holidays and Summer of Cricket !!

    • +1

      Yes you can
Just plug ur Chrimrcast via hdmi

      • thanks.

  • Bought it this morning. Good TV, surprisingly light weight (helpful when buying). Sound is somewhat weak but picture is fine, good value. Menu is rather uninspiring, but fine for me. Pretty happy for 399.

    • love a review on picture with laptop/computer plugged in over HDMI.

  • Id love a $25 voucher if anyone could send me for XMAS! Luv ya ozbargain.

  • Wierd…. they removed the online link!!!

  • Does anyone know of any stock left in sydney?

    • Bought one at Bondi store, they still had one left at 1230pm plus others available thru the week from their offsite storage.

  • I'm willing to buy the $25 voucher if anyone has a spare one they want to sell

  • Price matched at TGG

    • What? I couldn't find it their website

  • Great deal unity1, just wish I needed it..

  • +1

I got to stop looking at Ozbargain so much. Practically forcing me to spend my hard earned ;)

Still stock at Joondalup store for Perth guys.

  • 10 left at Everton Park at 11am - bought one - set up with DTV from antenna and XBox to push Media Centre on HDMI - both sources show good PQ - audio quality surprisingly OK but no bass - easy set up - 3yr warranty -good for kids/rumpus/games - price back up Monday.

    • Thanks OP and Debo for the heads up, Aspley sold out so bought it at Everton Park for the rumpus. Funny thing was at pick up the guy waiting before me got the same thing. They had about six left.

  • Seems to have been pulled from the website.

  • Well, placed my order yesterday for store pick up. Confirmation of order received last night at 11pm. Checked website for store stock, still in stock. Checked site this morning at 10am still in stock. Spoke with HN customer serv as I had not recieved my email to collect item. Informed that there were orders filled before mine and that it would be 21+ days before other stock would be available! But expect longer due to xmas. Doesnt matter what the website stock level stated when placing order. Bit miffed as it was an xmas pres for teenage son..
Wonder if paypal will give me a refund.

  • Get it from TGG

    • Nearest TGG is 350km away

        Better get going?

  • +1

FYI I picked up my order at Kessels road Macgregor(not garden city one) and they had a few of these in stock.
Seems like they've pulled off the online order and had left a few for walk in customers.
Their phone is 07 3849 9500 if you want to call and check stock.

TV is pretty good, but I had to return it for a replacement one because the first one I got had two bright dead pixels.

I paid $79.95 for extra 4 years warranty (total 7 years) but I just noticed someone saying they can get it for $45 instead of $79. but still good none the less. Thanks OP:D

    • thanks, i got one too! there were a couple left around 330.

    • Why would you pay over 25% of the purchase price on a warranty…. Just use your free credit card, one of many around, and get an extra year for free.

      • Yeah Im actually rethinking since there is a 7 day cooling off period. The reason why I did take it up is because theres a $200 excess per claim the the extended warranty on my card. Being an extra $80 it seemed ok at the time.

    • i was quoted $40 for an extra 3 years which i can elect to purchase until 7 days after the initial sale.. i don't think i'll bother though

Can somebody do me a favour and measure the dimensions of the box. Need to see if it will fit in my car.

    • +5

      133cm x 80cm x 16cm - Just got home from picking it up , it's still in my car :-)
Got mine from Browns Plains HN, was 5 left when i bought it over the phone earlier today but kinda suspect they are all gone now.

Thanks mate, I rang and paid over the phone for pick up tomorrow. Just need to decide whether to borrow the in-laws trailer or not.

Has someone confirmed that there is no stock in Australia before marking this expired? Just because the link has been removed from the website does not mean there is no stock in store.

    • +1

Still they have. i bough in Hobart and they mentioned, in warehouse around 85 left. You can better check your nearest store

      • Thanks, good enough reason to remove the expiry. I'm sure they take back orders too. Deal expires tomorrow.

Got one of these today at HN MacGregor, limited stocks left about 10 or so be quick if you want one!

You can check which store has stock by going here and clicking find store

  • Picked one up earlier from HN @ Valley Brisbane after placing online order.

Picture quality seems fine - though I am no TV expert. Setting up chromecast was really easy.

  • What's everyone's first impressions?

    Picture quality is pretty good.

Sound is quite average/not that great.

It's annoying how there is no 'source' menu and you have to keep pressing the source button to get through to the difference sources.

    • +1

      You can press Menu
And scroll which source you like

      • oh cheers thanks for that.

I can only seem to get resolution of 1024x768 on VGA in, does that seem normal? I was thinking this TV would have higher res. If I try for higher on my PC settings it doesn't display the whole image on the screen.

        • if you are using windows, go to screen res -> advanced settings -> list all modes -> whatever you like, but in PC/VGA mode these TVs will only scan at 60Hz, so 1920X1080@60Hz would be the best option assuming your graphics card is suitable

        • @rogdog:
Hi rogdog, do you know why when I connnet HDMI to a andriod TV box, it says HDMI1/50Hz, how can I get full 100Hz refresh rate with my TV box?

        • +1

@goevencheaper: I don't know. I think you can only get 100Hz from a digital TV signal, and even that might be upscaled.

I havn't read about how these TVs work in a while, but from what I remember, the circuit board that gives on screen display causes a delay to the input signal that prevents it scanning at over 60Hz.

To get a high refresh rate, you need a dedicated PC monitor

        • @rogdog:
          Thanks.

I'm pretty happy with this TV. I bought it on the website and picked up at QV Centre in Melbourne.
Interestingly, on HN website, when I entered my own post code (3184) it showed all the closest branches as having stock. When I used Melbourne CBD post code (3000), it showed all the stuff as not being in stock, for mostly the same stores. When I went back to my post code, it showed it in stock again. In both post codes lists, was the QV Centre store. So I just used my own post code and chose to pick up there. They had a couple on the floor as well. Moral of the story, with them, double check other post codes around you if it says no stock using your own post code.

The TV has 2 HDMI's, 2 USB's, 1 VGA, 1 Component and 1 Composite. It also has some games built in, like Sudoku, ha ha. I am using the chromecast, and screenshotted a pretty nice image across. It looked great on the TV. In fact, colours showed up brighter and richer than on my Macbook Air. Perhaps not realistic, but definitely good looking! Also, this one comes with a square glass stand which is nice. The bevel, however, is all plastic … but it's thin, so almost seems edgeless, which is awesome.

Sound is ok, not great. I intend on getting a sound bar at some stage. It's good enough for now though. I'm pretty happy with the purchase.

For Victorians have also emailed the website regarding rebates for energy efficient TV's, may be able to squeeze a few more dollars out of this deal yet…

    • Let me know how that goes :)

      • Thanks @bluntman my guess is it should be around $15 cashback as the 55" TCL model is around that mark.

        • Just checked with easyrebates and they have confirmed that there are no rebates for this TV as it is only 5 star. The rebates are for the tv 5.5 star and above.

Just grab a unit from Domayne yesterday. I think this TV does not worth more than $400 and so much attention, after several hours of playing it.

Pro: ok image, ok bezel design, 3 year warranty

    Cons:
-PVR is hard to use, so far I only succeeded with thumb drive but no luck with hard drive yet
-schedule recording is not working. I can only record the current program I am watching and the recording panel constantly occupies the low quarter of the screen. What's the point to have such PVR function?
    -no time shifting
-EPG is a pain in a$$, not only hard to use UI, but also very slow
-User interface design is very bad, not only unintuitive but also inconsistent with navigating operation
-bass is not existing in sound, serious, not even a bit
-the build quality is inferior. The screen is very flimsy. My kid's first comment is "oh the screen glass is wobbling"

This unit is probably more suitable to be called as "LCD panel" instead of TV. It may be ok for public display but if you use it as home TV, you have to take big big compromise with basic functions. I bought this unit from Domayne where there is no demo display. I am considering to refund this unit. However thinking of hours' of work spent on purchasing, delivery, setting up the unit, for $400 should I take the hassle? Hopefully my experience will give some hesitating OZBers some valuable input for decision.

Any way, this is a typical Chinese local brand product, cheap in price, and cheap in quality. Very regret not following my many years' of experience and lessons.

    • +3

It's a cheap LED panel. Hook up a decent PVR + media player + amplifier and Bob's your uncle. You'll thank yourself in a couple of years when you upgrade to a similar quality 4k 80" TV for ~$600 (another cheap LED panel) when the industry starts pushes '8K Retina surround hover/holler vision' on everyone, and all our current TVs become worthless, regardless of the price we paid.
(though you may need a HDMI-futurecable converter - and don't be sucked in by a hover conversion for your car; the traffic will be much more pleasant down here)

    • +1

as you say (ITveteran) this should be considered as just a panel - if you want more than the basic DTV source feed in an alternative source for fancy UI, internet, media, recording, time shifting etc. The PQ and general quality is good, the sound is OK (at least it does not distort at full volume)

I am super happy with $400 outlay as it is fit for purpose

    • +1

This is simply some objective summary of views on the TV. It's purely as tips to the potential buys. Why get negged? The neggers do not sound logical.

      • +1

Don't waste your time trying to comprehend the negger psyche!

  • The page returns error. It's Sunday 14th and the sale suppose to be on. Dirty games Harvey!.

    • The deal is still on apparently (for the remainder of today) but you have to go in store now. Or call local.

      • Gerry: "Haha - this'll fix those pesky professionals"

      • I've called to Bondi Junction store . They don't do back orders and they are sold out. What's next? Ideas?

  • Plenty stocks at HN fyshwick ACT

  • can any one be kind enough to send me $25 voucher if they are not using it?> Thanks heaps

    • @ everyone i got the voucher but it says online purchases only. Any idea will they accept it online? i have already pre booked a tlc 50" yesterday.

  • Was waiting for $25 voucher, which never arrived. No Stock in my local stores , no backorder or rain-check. Missed it. Sigh….

    • i had signed up 2.5 days back but didnt get it. the $25 was in my other email account which had signed up for hn ages ago. wer do u live if in WA, i think joondalup has some.

      • I'm in Sydney

        • +1

Auburn said they have quite a few in their warehouse.

  • Kids have been using if for the past 24 hours, they like it. First comment 7 & 9 year olds were, It is really clear compared (LG 42" LCD) they had.

3 year warranty, so I didn't take up the extended.

Funny thing though it was very fussy with HDMI cables, 2 did not work.

  • Pretty happy with this purchase but need to ask if anyone else is finding the picture blurrs/pixelates every now and then. I've found this happens through the built in tuner and also tbox.
Could this be antenna problem as its just a crappy ancient antenna, i previously had a 32in standard hd sharp with no issue.
    Any idea

    • works fine. We dont have an antenna in the house. got an indoor antenna and works preety well.

  • Anyone found detailed specs for this tv? e.g. brightness and contrast etc. nothing on the box or in the manual.

mine is significantly darker than my old tv at 100 backlit, and dark corners are obvious. does anyone else notice this?

    • It works fine for me, bright enough compare to my 7-year old Sony.

  • Did someone notice this that on The Good Guys website this TV shows as only 50 hz whereas the Harvey Norman had it for 100Hz.

    • It's difficult to confirm as this model is not on the official TCL website.

  • I emailed the service centre on the 15th asking for service menu code.. no reply yet so i sent them a FB message.. will post if they actually reply (doubt it though since it's xmas and all now)
