I was in the market for a new laptop and wanted a 17.3" full HD plus other extras for under $1500 and came across this. Yes I know it doesn't come with an operating system, but that is what I wanted. For the price I thought it was a pretty good all round laptop;

$30 more from the company directly. Free pickup in Perth, or + $25 for insured shipping

    • Yes I noticed that too when researching. Very good deal IMO.

  • "Metabox Warranty: Onsite pick up and return Australia wide (national).
    Free Insured Delivery by Road"

    That's a nice touch.

I'm going to buy my son something from this group as a graduation present (in two years- hope they're still around!). They seem to have very competitive pricing for what looks to be a quality product.

Please post back your impressions of it when you get it? A mini-review, perhaps?

Also- what OS are you going to use? I LOVE Linux Mint.

    :)

Yes there were a lot of little things that made this a fantastic deal for me and hence my purchase. I will gladly post back my thoughts and experience of not only the laptop (first time purchasing a metabox brand laptop) but the company as well.

  • I know it's a bit late for me now (already purchased) but has anyone had experience with,
    1. Metabox Brand and
    2. The company, Affordablelaptops?

Bought a WR110 from them less than two years ago, good overall.
The graphic card or the screen cable mucked up in a few months,
got it fixed under warranty, free courier pick up from home.
      No other problem after that.

I bought a Metabox (P177SM-A CTG06) from the online store www.metabox.com.au and they have a great policy around faults.

My keyboard had a small fault, they shipped me one out, instructed to me how to replace and provided a return satchel.

They also have a 2 year onsite pickup if the whole device needs to go back to them.

      So far so good.

Thanks for the feedback! I look forward to my laptop arriving. Hopefully no issues will arise but I have the safety net of 3yr onsite pick up and return warranty. Too good of a deal to pass up.

Metabox are rebadged Clevos. See review here

My friend got a laptop from affordablelaptops and they messed up on a free upgrade to a mSATA SSD but they quickly sent out a replacement and a prepaid envelope to send back the HDD he wasn't supposed to have.

Also worth a look, for anyone in the market. Logical Blue One is more popular here.

    • Unfortunately, that isn't as good spec wise.

      • Depends what you prioritise.

        Eg:
        Upgrading ram to 16GB - AC-$104, LBO-$49
        Changing GPU - AC-N/A, LBO-$129 for nVidia Geforce GTX670MX 3.0GB GDDR5
        Add OS (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit) - AC-$130, LBO-$99

So yeah, stock system is cheaper at AC, but if you wanna alter it, LBO is cheaper for upgrades.

      "Factory refurbished".

  • This is almost right for me. I'd prefer no GPU, just Intel graphics and 32GB RAM, but that seems almost impossible. I'll be doing a lot of development, so CPU speed and copious RAM are mandatory, as is a decent keyboard.

Any idea if the keyboard on this laptop is backlit?

    • You'd have to call them to see I think

Or have a look at the link I posted previously, has a 32GB ram option ($299 more than 16GB), and can only detune the GPU so to speak :P

      • TBH - I wouldn't buy their upgraded ram. It is cheaper to get that individually at MSY or Bing Lee etc. and install it yourself. Same with HDDs.

Affordable laptops have a great reputation on Whirlpool, my next purchase will likely be through them (for a Metabox / Clevo)

  • I bought 2 of these through KingComputers about 4 months ago.
Very nice to deal with and no problems since.

    The 72%gamut is very nice.
