Is it me ? or am I weird? Because I find the poster very funny.

    Awesome word doc advertisement there.

    :D rofl

Good deal I guess. Their prices are dirt cheap already. Dont forget the % fee on credit card charges at MSY

    • haha yea, typical MSY stuff. In any case it's a good deal; but do note that you cannot reserve if you want this deal.

      • It's like MSY have jump to the 20th century with their high end graphics!!!
Is it a notion for things to come??? rofl he he

        • +3

some people think they purposely make it look bad to drive away the tech-illiterate people because those that aren't probably won't ever find their way around the site. probably because they don't have time to deal with them.

          • @kaheiyeh: smart man, thats exactly right.

          • @kaheiyeh: wow insightful. it all makes sense now lol.

            • @kimmik: its true if you think about it. when was the last time you walked into MSY and asked them from scratch what you need to build ur pc and got a decent answer?

        • +1

3rd graders don't come cheap these days when you need them to do your graphic design :)

        • +2

You guys are bagging this poster, but compared to the rest of their website, this poster is like the friggin' Mona Lisa. Just looking at their website hurts my eyes. My 94 year old grandfather who has never used a computer in his life could design a better website.

      Love the Word Art skills

    • +3

lol i look at it in the view that they didn't waste money on a graphic designer, instead passing the savings onto them + their customers! lolz

    • +1

lol yer. MSY are pretty cheap when it comes to marketing.
if they could sell parts from a lemonade stand they would.

i guess their prices = their marketing so they don't need much else.

  • 13th Anniversary - that is an odd number. Is the economy downturn anything to do with this? Soon they will have 13.5 Anniversary sale.

I guess I have more options than you guys have. PCDIY in Box Hill is right next to them with same pricing but better services.

    • I visited PC DIY … I didn't find better prices … I was looking at external harddrives and the prices were about the same; though that was months ago

      • they're a whole lot friendlier though!

        • +1

Agreed. I always go to PC DIY instead of MSY when i can. Prices are sometimes a few bucks cheaper, sometimes a few bucks more, but they usually have stock, WAY better on returns, WAY faster and WAY friendlier. <3 PC DIY.

There's a PC DIY in Auburn, Syd ;-)

      • I just bought a LCD monitor from PC DIY…O(∩_∩)O~…ViewSonic 22'' VX2260WM…LOVE it.

  • +1

Does someone want to organize a group buy? Dont need to spend 1k atm :)

    • +1

wont really be worth it its only 5 bux to the hundred dollars… not really worth the headach.

      • I think it wont be worthy, too….(⊙_⊙)

  • MSY always have the best price and also always out of stock.
They force me to choose somethings else….that is sad

  • Is the MSY in Auburn going to be moving elsewhere?

The guy at the newly opened PCIDiy store @ Bell Tower told me they were going to move out later this month.

    • after checking MSY,

      http://www.msy.com.au/LOCATION/auburnshop.html

      I guess they are.

    • MSY Auburn moved 2 weeks ago to the glass building on parra rd, 2 mins walk from the old store

    • MSY Auburn moved across the road from where they were before. Just walk down the stairs and across the road from where they used to be and it's right there. Still very close to PCDIY if you want to visit both.

  • MSY having a sale, never thought I'd see the day.

EDIT: While other places have become more competitive, this is still a really good move. Shame it wasn't earlier. In total I think I've spent around 1-2 @ MSY over a 3 year period.

    • i've bought every pc system since 1997 from them. they turn me on.

      • -1

you probably turn them on too with your unassuming obedience and loyalty.

        • errr, why wouldn't I be obedient and loyal if everything I want/need is what they have at a cheaper price than anyone else?
          answer me that.

          • -1

@forlorn: because they are always out of stock, they aren't as good as others with warantee and they make you wait in line for half an hour, there customer service in general could be better…. is that a good enough answer?

that said i too like MSY for there prices…

when im buying parts for other people i rarely go there to save 10-20 bux, i typically go somewhere where the person will get good service if they ever have a problem.

            • @wisc: Firstly they are not always out of stock. Ringing beforehand to find parts availability and ETA of re-stock is the best way to avoid disappointment. Plus if they are always out of stock doesn't that imply that they are popular in the first place?

Their warranties are fine if you actually clarify before buying. They do not make you wait in line for half an hour. It depends what time you rock up. If you rock up peak time after work on weekdays or arvo during weekend of course you're going to have to wait? Plus doesn't waiting in line for half an hour also imply that they are popular?

Their customer service does not cater towards people who don't know what they want. In other words, if you aren't technologically savvy in the first place, you shouldn't be shopping at a DIRECT PC PARTS seller who offer cheaper prices in return for knowing what you want.

MSY is such a sh*t customer service place. You can find cheap parts with competitive price in Capital Square Computer city Sydney easily. Or you show the price list to the shop, they will match price. MSY is the place with 99% no change and refund even it is their fault.

    • Im sorry but I cant aggree with that comment. I went to the capital square hoping to price match MSY prices on a new system build. Not one store could price match even one component. Each item was at least 10% more.

      • thats because they have a higher bill to pay for renting out the store

        • actually the rent at capitol square is very low, you may find the rent is much more expensive at silverwater or parramatta albeit slightly smaller place

          • @Mikinoz: wow thats surprising
you'd think a place so dense with shops would cost more

            • @twig: It's not uncommon, I was looking to start up a business a few years ago and the rent on a local Stockland shop was noticeably more expensive than one in much larger, more centrally located Westfield! :?

Mind you, both of them were outrageous, not just fiscally but some of the terms and conditions were just ridiculous! ;)

          • @Mikinoz: You also have to consider the floorspace of Capitol Square shops is tiny.

  • Its looks like their advertising skills is as good as their web design

  • Do they sell 5850's or 5870's yet? Wouldnt mind getting one if they got the discount.

Cant see it on their parts list.. might give them a ring later.

  • I did notice their prices are not that great since the last 1-2 years, they used to always better staticice price, then they started matching it and now I see that they are beaten on price for quite a few parts…

makes sense though since people got used to going there and the cue is often long, so might as well up the price, also wondering about this "sale", they just make you come there and you end up buying something you don't want due to no stock and going all the way there (somebody said we cannot reserve)

    • I reckon joining the MSY queue has become a ritual for many. In computer hardware forums you often see posts asking which product one should buy from those MSY stocks, at the expense of considering a broader range of products from other stores.

    • I'd just like to say that your view is probably from one side of the coin.

The other side is the view that since MSY has been in business, they have caused enough of a competition stir that other retailers have lowered their profit margins to try and remain competitive. In which case they have done us consumers a huge favor.

      • I would say it's more likely that the online shops have caused more competition for each other which resulted in said price decreases. Are the online shops beating MSY price or is MSY slightly upping the cheapest online prices?

In the past their prices were lower then cheapest staticice, then suddenly about the same and now slightly costlier. I don't think MSY lost the ability to compete with online shops with the amount of stores they keep opening and cues found therein (bigger bulk discounts).

    1. they should hire more friendly staff instead of some shitty staff with shitty face and never smile!!!
    • they sell cheap pc parts, they do this by cutting costs.
      shitty staff = cutting costs
shitty staff is the price the customer pays for cheap pc parts.

accept it or go elsewhere, its not rocket science :)

Edit: please vote this up. makes perfect sense.
