I went to the one at liverpool, for TV's its mostly just staff trying to convince people its cost price, but you can get them cheaper normally at other shops. It was quite bad. I didnt take notice of other stuff, there were alot of people buying, but there were also alot of people walking out empty handed.
even the staff told me there is no big deal for these so called 'staff price nights'
I think it depends on what you are wanting to buy. A lot of people turn up thinking they will get a cheap iPad deal and leave disappointed. Just make sure you know your prices.
Why not just haggle and buy things below staff price anyway? I don't like how no values are given, if it's a good sale then they will want to advertise the rates. It's not like their competitors don't know what the items cost or what mark ups are out on the products when they sell the exact same things.
Harvey Norman staff usually work on commission and also get their sales and profit margin tracked by the franchise owner. When the staff check to see what price they can do, limits are set. The closer to the lower limit the worse the staff members numbers look at the end of the month.
On the staff price night, the staff are not so concerned about about keeping their numbers high and will sell for the staff price which is usually the lowest they can go.
If you have evidence of a lower price, bring it on the night and try to talk to a manager, on the staff night, they would usually be prepared to go under the staff price and closer to cost if you can show it is cheaper somewhere.
I shared this on Facebook and somebody mentioned that they had the same sale at the same store a while back and ended up getting a bed reduced from $1,500 to $900… Not bad IMO.
Depends how much the bed was elsewhere though…
Beds are usually tough to judge as Harvey Norman has their own brands or models.
Yea, that is true, although there are a few larger brands that are stocked by a number of retailers. A quick search of the model/item number would tell, but it's irrelevant now either way.
I have bought a few items from these sales in Victoria.
Each time the prices were cheaper than the best price available even online.
The trick is to really know your prices.
2 years ago I purchased a Blanco Oven, Blanco Rangehood, Bosch Dishwasher, Microwave Oven and even carpet.
I was tracking the prices of these for months while i was deciding what brands and models to buy.
I think only the microwave was slightly dearer in this sale than the best price online and they beat it on the night. For me i was very happy. Let's just say, you need to be a "professional" when you go to this sale.
From memory, I think I paid about $10,500 for about RRP $16,000.
I then worked out this would of usually cost me $12,000 using the best web or sale prices.
Though, it may have been the items i was purchasing.Should add it also cost me about 3 hours of my life in the first sale!
Lots of queuing, about 40 minutes just to pay.
The second time i did recon before the sale and got straight in and out.
What are the prices?
