Lenovo recently released a NUC / Chromebox competitor. But unlike the NUC and other bare-bones units like Gigabyte BRIX, this computer already has HDD, memory and an operating system in the package. Also includes wired KB and Mouse.

SSD / RAM / OS costs do add up making the Atom NUC relatively expensive against a traditional desktop.

It has a Dual core Bay Trail-D processor, 128GB SSD, Windows 8.1 with Bing, and a floor stand.

Free Shipping.

  • This is intriguing…though no WiFi but I guess can be added via USB for $40 or so. Would be interesting to see the graphics capabilities (ports) and SSD specs.

only $22 dollars for an Intel Wifi PCIE adapter that does 5ghz AC
      http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Intel+AC+72…

      graphics
      Graphics Base Frequency 688 MHz
Graphics Max Dynamic Frequency 792 MHz

It is also capable of Intel Quick Sync, unlike the N2820.

There is no HDMI I believe, has a Displayport instead and VGA. A bit odd, for HDMI users will need something like this?

Intel HD Graphics in processor, uses main memory, 1 x VGA, 1 x DisplayPort™, supports up to dual independent display; max. resolution: 2560x1600@60Hz (DisplayPort); 1920x1200@60Hz (VGA)

    • It has an internal PCIe Half Mini Card for wifi, You could always just rip one out of an old laptop.

  • fanless design? cant seem to find anything about it.

    • Nevermind, its fanned.
Need to go back to finding a fanless design for my incredibly dusty environment.

Awesome price though, better than employee prices.

      • Have you ever seen this? http://www.fit-pc.com/web/products/mintbox/
They are awesome, I have deployed them in an industrial environment without issue, and I loaded Win 7 on them.
Significantly more expensive, but good performance.

The new (not released in Australia) HP Stream laptop is fanless.

Looks interesting, hadn't heard of it before now.

The reviewer seems to be nitpicking a bit though

HDMI offers the only video-out option, so you’ll need a converter if you have an older DVI display, for example.

I've never seen a laptop with DVI out

        • @Agret: I have, but not for 10 years

      • How powerful do you need it to be? Recently picked up a Next book 10.1 (windows 8.1 tablet/laptop convertible) for $299. Decent CPU (~10% slower than computer OP shows), HDMI out via MicroHDMI, USB port via MicroUSB, etc.
It'll do the job of a low end miniPC while also doubling as a laptop and tablet.

  • with the free version of win8.1 and ssd, seems pretty cheap.

  • interested to get one.need a new computer.
want a large size monitor to show photos.
can I get this and connect to a good monitor? any suggestion.
and buy a wifi adapter as scrimshaw suggested.

  • I wish this had dual NICs.
J1800 would make a nice little pfsense box!

  • can you use a universal remote to control the device when running XBMC?

    • I use a similar machine (Lenovo Q190) with a $25 HP remote and XBMC (actually OpenELEC).

      • Does the machine come with an IR receiver or you using it through HDMI-CEC? Looks like the Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny M53 has Display port not sure if HDMI-CEC would work.

        • My remote came with an IR receiver unit (USB).

No idea if this Lenovo has it built in - unlikely I would have thought.

    ssd makes it the future

  • Thank you scrimshaw, just place order for one unit.

  • I tried a Celeron J1800 based PC last week and it lagged a little bit when playing 1080p Youtube videos. 720p was fine though.

  • thanks OP :)

  • It's a shame they're only doing this in Celeron and Pentium variants… This is exactly the form factor I'm looking for after my Acer Veriton V1000 died. That thing packed a Core 2 Duo processor into a small space (granted, not as small as the M53, but a Celeron???)

  • My Medion pc just died. Thinking of getting this. For extra storage do I just use a external hard drive?

    • you'll probably be downgrading by getting this unit.

  • Anyone know if the specs on this device is future proof?

I haven't got a 4K display or content yet but would like to be able to play it in the future without having to upgrade.

    • Its not future proof. GPU isn't upgradable.

According to the spec sheet, the Max res is
      2560x1600@60Hz (DisplayPort)

DOn't buy this if you are thinking of being able to upgrade the mainboard and CPU.

    • Highly doubtful.

For starters the version of DisplayPort on it is probably old enough to not support 4K res @ >24Hz.

  • I was about to say, the intel NUC's seem a lot better but factoring in the os/storage. Might as well just buy a windows 8.1 tab then you get portability and a display.

  • Newb question. What are these things for? Could it even run a 10bit 1080p video without lag?

    • Dust falling from a bookshelf could produce more processing power than this Celeron -_-

    • +1

They're certainly not for gamers, and wouldn't make great HTPCs either though it'd be passable, just not great - the 5-years-old Core2 actually performs better. However, this CPU only draws 10w, its silent, and would be perfect for the in-laws and parents for their Facebook / Plants vs Zombies / Skype / Freecell machine.

  • What are peoples expected delivery date? I've got 2014/12/08 to Syd Metro

    • When did you order?

      • I paid on 26/11/2014 2:52 AM… you?

        • just arrived
